1.The Museo Picasso Mรกlaga was opened on the 17th of October 2003, with the king and queen of Spain present. But the first time the idea was discussed in 1953. The foundation that runs the museum also runs Picasso's Birthplace Museum, which is close by in Plaza de la Merced. 2.Picasso's family have donated a total of 155 works, including paintings, sculptures, individual drawings, a sketchbook with drawings, engravings and ceramic pieces. 3.The Buenavista Palace was built in the 16th century over the remains of a Nasrid palace. The museum incorporates 18 houses from the old Jewish Quarter. The architects were Richard Gluckman, Isabel Camara and Rafael Martin. The project was budgeted at over 2,000 million pesetas. 4.In the excavations they found the remnants of a city and towers of the Phoenicians, of a Roman factory of garum sauce , and also of the earlier Nasrid Palace on the same site. 5.A purpose built museum must take into consideration the temperature, humidity and cleanliness of the air. When working with materials (450 year old), matters are not simple. In particular ductwork must be well hidden, by running through the walls. It is also a very complicated matter. This problem was solved in part through making air conditioning vents out of white marble. 6.The museum is only 200 meters from th Plaza de la Merced, it is located in the Calle San Agustin. 7.The area where the museum is located has important connections to the Artist's biography. 8.Picasso went to nursery school on that street, and his father was the curator of the city museum. Also Picasso was baptized in the hear by church of Santiago.
