Maestro Welsh Unveils SOGO’s Fourteenth Season As I sit preparing for the upcoming season - working on schedules, putting together chamber music groups or marking bowings in the music, I can’t help but look forward to that first September rehearsal.

May is always difficult because there are goodbyes to say. This year was no exception. Luckily, I can keep up with most of those who left on Facebook. I feel positive about our role in their success.

Get Your MOJO On!
Have you heard about SOGO’s best kept secret?
Musicians Out Jammin’ Olympia (MOJO) is the name of our chamber ensembles, or small ensemble program. MOJO ensembles have performed at weddings, holiday parties, business openings, Olympia’s Spring Arts Walk, and even Washington State’s most recent Governor’s Inaugural Ball!
Need a little MOJO for your special event?
Our ensembles are eager to perform. MOJO coordinator Mary Jo Rydholm is an accomplished violin player and has dedicated much of her playing career to chamber ensemble playing. With her vast knowledge and library of chamber music, we can help you find an ensemble to match the mood and length of your event to help make it a success. Contact studentorchestras@gmail.com to schedule your event today!

Maestro Welsh’s pride in our musicians is evident after each performance
There are many positive influences on our musicians, but I know that SOGO plays a role in their social, emotional and mental development. I have no doubt that successful young people participate in music making but I also know that the discipline and mental and emotional nature of music making expands their capabilities.
“I know that SOGO plays a role in their social, emotional and mental development.” I am also aware of the success of many of our alumni as they progress through the years. It is considerable and I take great joy in watching them.

One of the ways we reach our goal of having a meaningful effect on our members is to progress them from their first full orchestra experience in our Debut Orchestra to the exposure we give them as they play the greatest works of the orchestral repertoire in the Conservatory Orchestra.
