I have owned the Spline chair for over 15 years, I bought it because I loved its shape and design. I remember the first time I saw it, I just knew I had to have it. I also knew I would like to photograph it, but I struggled with the best way to do that. One morning about 8 months ago, I woke up and I knew exactly how I wanted to do that.
My idea was to explore how human subjects could interact with the chair, to produce something that represents a union between the two. The chair has a very strong and bold design, so the challenge was to create an image that combines the two objects into one.
The models were encouraged to interact and play with the chair, and find ways to create shapes and forms using their bodies. What you see here is the result of those sessions.
Some of the models had never seen the chair before the shoot, nor had they seen pictures from previous shoots. I wanted to ensure that each session was original and unique to each model.
