Ghanshyam Das Birla in 1929 founded this institute as an intermediate college. In 1946, it was transformed into today's Birla Engineering College that offers degree programs in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering domains. 

Bits Pilani Campus:

BITS, Pilani came into existence in the year 1929 and earned the status of a Deemed University established vide Sec.3 of the UGC Act,1956 under notice No. F.12-23/63.U-2 of June 18, 1964 .

Stationed in Pilani, Rajasthan, India, BITS has campuses across Goa, Hyderabad, in India along with Dubai, United Arab Emirates abroad. An extension center is also in place in Bangalore, India. The institute is both completely residential and privately supported as well.

All of these campuses are linked via BITS CONNECT 2.0 – which happens to be a million dollar venture. With such a framework in place, a student from the Hyderabad campus can easily attend lectures at Pilani, in addition, can also put forth live questions, this is a first in India! 

Achievements and accreditations:

- The Washington Accord considers degrees from both BITS Pilani and the IITs to be at the same level to rest of the institutions in the accord.

Admission to Hyderabad and Goa campusesFor admission to these campuses since 2005, take place through revised admission procedure by means of a National Entrance Examination known as the BITS Admission Test (BITSAT). BITSAT happens to be a test held online in the period between May 1 and June 10 in numerous cities across India. The subjects include- Physics, English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Logical thinking reasoning.

Aspirants need to score an aggregate of 80% marks at the least in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (subject to at least 60% in every one of these three subjects) in their higher secondary exam to become qualified for the admission.

No reservation policy :

At BITS Pilani, there isn't any sort of reservation system in place. Management at the institute is of the opinion that reservation can barely play a role in the progress and growth of the nation.
