“Ohhhh … Ahhh.” That was my reaction to the entries to our first TKGV Knitting Contest and not the fireworks at Harbor Park. The winners and their projects will be unveiled at the June meeting followed by comments from Sue Von Ohlsen, head judge, about the contest. This year the Guild is going to approach Knit in Public differently by sponsoring two activities the week of June 9–16. On June 10, at noon, we will meet at the Nordstrom’s café for lunch (at your expense) and knit in the mall. Our next event will be a Stitch and Pitch at the Tides game on June 16, at 7:15. Tickets are $11 each and families are welcome. Bring ticket money to the June meeting if you want me to purchase your tickets ahead of time. It’s a great time to knit as long as someone is on the lookout for foul balls coming you way. I want to give you a heads up and time to go through your stashes before the July meeting, which is our Summer Yarn Yard Sale. Your stash could be someone else’s new treasure. It’s a great time to buy, sell or swap. July is not too early to be thinking about your holiday knitting. By request, our July program will be “Ask the Experts.” Last month, we started our pre-meeting help clinic; however, several members mentioned that they could not get to the meetings early but would like to have the time to request help. We will experiment with a help forum and see how it goes. Our attempts to bring an instructor in this summer were scrapped due to scheduling conflicts. We now are aiming for the weekend of November 3-4. Based on the feedback Lora got our focus will be on technical classes. We also are planning a knitting retreat to the Outer Banks for March 8-10, 2013. The theme is Sock Yarn by the Sea and our focus is (but not limited to) classes and projects using sock yarn. I am looking for people who would like to help with the planning. We will draw the winner for the super raffle at the June meeting. Best wishes to everyone who bought tickets and thank you for supporting our education fund.
