6 Meeting Minutes Plus Knitting Contest Rules & Entry Form
A message from our president Our Knitting by the Sea retreat just blew me away – literally. The wind was blowing so hard luggage carts were seen flying by the front of the hotel with guests chasing after them. I digress. I am trying to set the mood for the perfect knitting retreat. The wind was blowing, there was a chill in the air, waves were crashing the shoreline and a fire was burning in the fireplace. We basically had the hotel and the whole Outer Banks to ourselves except for the crazy ultramarathoners, whom we did not see until Sunday morning. We had a relaxing weekend of knitting, learning, eating, chatting and shopping right in the hotel, with the option to leave if you had a craving for seafood. Everyone seemed to have had a great time and is ready to do it again next year. Before we get rolling on next year’s retreat, we have several community events coming up on the calendar. The Gathering of the Guilds is April 6 at the Francis Land House; we have participated in this for the last 20 years. It is a time to showcase our craft and see what the other guilds in our community are doing. The Gathering of the Guilds also is a signal to me that spring is here and time for baseball and the Kentucky Derby. In honor of the Kentucky Derby, which is the first Saturday in May, we had a hat contest last year, and we will have one again this year at the May meeting. Hats should have a knittingor fiber-related theme and be as ostentatious as possible. Prizes will be awarded. More information will be given at the April meeting. I also will be looking at dates for a Guild night at a Tides baseball game. Finally, I will be continuously reminding everyone about our knitting contest, which has been moved to October. Details will be available at our meetings, on Ravelry and in our newsletters, so get busy.
