A message from our president I am in a knitting slump. It usually happens this time of year when the weather gets warmer and my gardens are calling to me. I have veered way off course with the goals I set for myself in January and couldn’t even tell you how many projects I have started. I have bags of yarn sitting around the house and can’t even remember what I had in mind when I bought the yarn. To the rescue was tropical storm Andrea. There was nothing like the threat of a good storm to get me to “hunker down” with my yarn stash, bags of yarn and multiple project bags to gage where I was at with knitting and get back on course with my goals. I spent a rainy day discovering year-old projects, finding lost needles, sorting and touching beautiful yarn and exploring possible new projects. I created a pile of projects for baseball games, social knitting, riding in the car and the house. I refreshed old knitting projects by putting them in “new” knitting bags and decided what to finish first. By the end of the day I felt sure I was back on course and motivated to finish a number of projects, which turned out to be all for ME! Where are you with your goals set back in January? Notes Found on a Notepad: I recently heard someone pass on a tip they had gotten from Ruth Coleman. Ruth advised knitters to put a mailing label on their patterns and books so they can be easily identified if left behind or mixed up with other patterns and books. Andrea, from The Yarn Club, is trying to get an idea of the interest in a bus trip to Maryland Sheep and Wool next year. If a bus is something you would be interested in, please let her know at the shop or contact her through Ravelry. Don’t forget the Yarn Yard sale at the July meeting. Katie Gerwien will give a short program on storing yarn and our Thirty-One advertiser will be there with ideas for storage options.

Warm weather perfect for charity knitting By Chris Goudeau

Thank you to all who donated items this last month to your charity. I’m sure they will be very welcomed by that particular organization. As the weather gets warmer and you are looking for smaller projects to do, remember that you can make a child’s hat or a pet blanket out of any of your leftover yarns. INSIDE To date, 20 members have knitted charity items that were donated to 16 different organizations. Here’s a recap of local organizations asking for knitted/crocheted items: 2 Calendar, Treasurer’s Pet blankets – Virginia Beach and Norfolk animal shelters Report, New Member, Baby blankets – Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Birthdays, Meeting Photos 8” squares – Hugs from the Heart (hospice patients) Hats and scarves for Veterans – American Red Cross 3 Scavenger Hunt Caps/blankets for kids – St. Mary’s Home, Project Linus, Newborns in Need Bring your items to be donated locally to the next meeting and we’ll see that they are distributed.
