INSIDE 2 Calendar, Treasurer’s Report, Wellness, New Member, Birthdays 3 Charity Knitting 4 Meeting Minutes PLUS: - Nancy Shroyer classes - Knitting contest rules - Men’s knitting retreat
A message from our president If you are ever in Austin, Texas, be sure to visit the yarn shop Hill Country Weavers. Don’t let the name fool you. The shop is a brightly painted house that is wall-to-wall yarn in every room. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about knitting and weaving. They also have a very small house/apartment in the back that holds their discount yarn. My sisters, niece and I spent three hours there, and they don’t even knit or weave. I came home with yarn and projects and did not spend a dime (maybe a few dollars, but not a dime). The one tip I will pass on is to avoid Austin in August. It was hotter that Hades. Back by popular demand the first weekend in November will be Nancy Schroyer. She has a knack for teaching and I am looking forward to her classes on Fair Isle, color selection and drop spindle. I know many of you will say we have done Fair Isle and selecting colors, but not the way Nancy presents the subjects. Her teaching aids include a life-size color wheel as well as a multitude of colored yarns for her class. I hope this time I get the whole color wheel concept. Thanks to Lora Marin, information on the weekend and registration is out there in cyberspace and will be available at the meeting, as well as in this newsletter. I also want to thank Lora for coordinating and setting up Nancy’s visit. I am hoping for lots of entries for our knitting contest. Lora has put all the information online, on Ravelry and any other cyberspace place available. We will collect the entries at the meeting on Monday, Sept. 2. Entries also can be turned into our local yarn shops by Sept. 7. I have said on many occasions that I love show and tell. Unveiling the entries and getting them ready for the judges will be a real treat. See you at the meeting.
