A message from our president ! Let the fun begin. The board met in January to make plans for 2014, and I have to say it was a productive meeting. Some of the highlights from the meeting include changes to the knitting contest, some events coming up quickly, a budget and programs for the year.! ! We hit the road running in February with our meeting on the 3rd, hockey night on the 8th and our Charity Knit-In on the 22nd. The program for the February meeting will be “Caring for Your Hand Knits.” I will collect money at the meeting for tickets to the hockey game for anyone interested in going. Families are welcome; tickets are $14.50 each. Our Charity Knit-In Potluck will be at Debbie Goodman’s house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you plan on attending, email Debbie at dhgoodman2@yahoo.com to get directions. More information will be given at the meeting on our focus group.! ! The board voted to have the knitting contest again this year with the sock and baby category being dropped and a novice category added. Knitters who have been knitting five or fewer years can enter the novice category with their choice of a project that they have done in the last year. We also will establish a standard scoring system that will be published ahead of time and used by the judges for judging. We hope these changes will encourage more people to enter the contest. If the participation rate remains low, then the Guild probably will drop the contest.! ! The proposed budget is included in this newsletter and will be voted on at the February meeting. If you have any questions, please present them at the meeting or email me at hendersonjb@cox.net.! ! A list of Guild events for the year also is included in the newsletter. So is a schedule of proposed programs, and you will notice there are several blank spaces for a presenter’s name. Let me know where you can help. The success of the year depends on the efforts of the group, so please do your part!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Debbie Hen derson
