'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, The only creatures stirring were me and the cat! The stockings were hung with needles still attached, In hopes that Mrs. St. Nicholas soon would be there; The children were nestled all snug in their beds; While visions of hand-knitted sweaters danced in their heads; And me up late with my needles and yarn, Just settled into my chair with cocoa in hand, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my spot to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Yarn ball a-rolling, cat going wild! I peeped out the window and what did I see? Just moonlight on the sidewalk glowing in the mist, Giving the appearance of shiny new needles! When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But a beautiful knitting bag filled to the brim! With oodles of yummy yarn and shiny new do-das! I knew in that moment it must be Mrs. St. Nick. Her eyes — how they twinkled! Her dimples, how merry! Her cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry! More rapid than eagles her needles did fly, Soon let me to know I had nothing to dread; Then she winked and smiled with encouragement saying: "Now, K1! Now, YO! Now P2tog and K5! Then, repeat across, to the last 5 of those stitches! Then K5tbl and done!” From the top of the work! To the bottom of the piece! I looked! And I counted! Then smiled with delight! The project was finished, and ready for wrapping. Mrs. St. Nick smiled once again knowing, All would be well and finished by morning. Her encouragement was just what I needed on such a long night, Before resting my head and dreaming of new projects. I heard her exclaim, ‘ere she faded from sight — “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!” www.tkgv.blogspot.com
