points Drink: 2016-2028 2009 Tassi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Franci
The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Franci ages for 48 months in traditional casks compared to the 36 months you get with the base Brunello Franci. The wine opens to a beautifully brilliant ruby hue that does a great job of reflecting ambient light. The bouquet is slightly more subdued or shut down compared to the 2010 Brunello but it also shows a broader, more austere quality of fruit that does not have the same pitch or peak of aromatic intensity. Instead, this wine shows its personality with a slower, steadier pace that gives great hope for its long-term evolution. I loved the way this wine feel in the mouth. It shows great purity, crispness and balanced freshness. The mouthfeel is elegant and streamlined. If you love traditional Brunello, this is one of the best Riservas made in 2009. Tassi shows one of the most impressive lineups of the vintage. Alberto Antonini is the consulting enologist at this young property with limestone and clay soils. The house style favors large oak casks made from Slovenian oak and tonneaux for elegant aging. Importer(s):

2010 Renieri Brunello di Montalcino
The beautifully crafted 2010 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a gorgeous appearance that shows both intense ruby vitality and dark density. The bouquet offers subtle tones of black cherry, blackberry, spice and licorice that roll smoothly off the surface. Those tones are absolutely seamless in both execution and presentation. As the wine takes on more air in the glass, it begins to show spice, tobacco and chocolate adding opulence and decadent richness. It offers amazing flexibility that will appeal to those who appreciate both elegance and power in their Brunello.
Renieri's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of infinite depth and personality. It makes a huge impact on the senses thanks to the power of its extract and the boldness of its aromas. This is no small Brunellino. It's a wine of huge aspirations and horizons that will appeal to those who appreciate the extra meat and padding on display. Its overtly generous personality delivers tones of black fruit, shaved truffle, wet earth, prune, candied fruit, cigar box and wet tobacco. On the palate, it shows an irresistible sense of density and softness. This excellent wine can be consumed now or in ten years.

Marco Bacci has released some of the finest wines ever made from his Montalcino property, Renieri. This Tuscan all-rounder (with properties in Chianti Classico and coastal Tuscany) demonstrates a profound understanding and ability to express the greatness of Sangiovese in the 2010 vintage.

Drink: 2017-2028 2010 Tassi Brunello di Montalcino Franci
Tassi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Franci opens to medium body and savory tones of Indian spice, dried fruit, licorice and dark cola. The balsam herb intensity is very attractive. This wine veers toward the ethereal and away from the obvious fruit and berry tones you get with less sophisticated Sangiovese. In fact, this is a wine that seemingly basks in the Brunello spotlight with all the small, enticing details and aromatic trimming you should expect of a wine of this craftsmanship. It sees 36 months of slow aging in traditional oak casks. The finish is feminine and delicate with rose hip, dried violets and forest tones. 2009 Renieri Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a soft and luscious expression with evident oak tones of tobacco, smoke and baking spice that sit heavy over black fruit, tar and licorice. The smoky element veers toward barbecue smoke, soy and teriyaki sauce. But the wine also shows enormous integrity and an evident sense of craftsmanship. It's a flawless rendition of an opulent Brunello that is shaped in equal parts by ripe fruit and careful barrel aging. The oak tannins are still on the astringent side and could benefit from more bottle aging. Marco Bacci has released some of the finest wines ever made from his Montalcino property, Renieri.
