COP
Whilst
unable to think of a specific
question as of yet, within this piece of work I want to: look into the concept of androgyny within fashion; note how it has become a more prominent ‘trend’ within recent years; question whether it’s actually needed in fashion, or whether people’s
attitudes
towards
gender
stereotypes need to change. With regards to the physical side of COP 3, I would like to actually make a garment that I feel brings together the genders, whilst also looking into different styles of photography and ways to representing specific genders and the ‘genderless’.
Sexuality - many people now view sexuality as more of spectrum - does this change affect how people feel comfortable expressing themselves? Transgender - do people transitioning find it conflicting that most clothing shops are split into specifically male or female sections? Are shops such as Dover Street Market, who arrange their shop simply by brand names, paving the way for more freedom within clothing? Zara - was the recent decision to create a ‘gender neutral’’ clothing range overshadowed by the fact it basically contained shapeless, plain basics that don’t actually promote the freedom for either gender to wear whatever clothes they want?

As I’ve managed to secure a placement at Dazed for three weeks, I need to make sure that I really make the most of this experience and hopefully gain new ideas and a new insight from like minded people.
