STUDIO PRACTICE Project Proposal Name Blog Address Sophie Poole Date 30/01/2017 http://s-poole1417-sp.blogspot.co.uk/ Rationale I will be creating a book based on research I will collect about people and human emotion. The main focus of this project will be reportage, all of my research will be primary and focussed on city life in Leeds, the ups and the downs. The research will involve people watching so that I can really understand my subject in order to create atmospheric images that convey the particular emotion. I will also be creating a set of prints taken from spreads of the book. The main process I will be using for this project will be monoprint. I am keen to explore how I can push my skills in this printing process as it is a process I am very confident in. In particular, I will be taking influence from Matt Craven and Drew Tucker in terms of process as they both create emotion and atmosphere in a way that I admire. Themes / Subjects Human emotion – I want to capture all emotion People watching City life – main focus being Leeds Professional Context & Contextual References Contextual References: OK_Cucumber – Instagram account Clare Hewitt – Photographer, captures emotion Phoebe Halstead – First Hand Collective, specifically cinema drawings, captures emotion Tim King – Drawing a day, documents conversation Matt Craven – Monoprint technique Drew Tucker – Monoprint Professional Context: Full book of prints documenting my research Selection of large prints from spreads of the book

OUIL603 Extended Practice – Major Brief
BRIEF TITLE Brief Using primary research collected from around Leeds create a book, set of prints and web comic including gifs to show city life. The primary process will be monoprint, however will also include digital methods of working. The aspects of city life are varied, so each image will also be varied in terms of emotion and atmosphere. Consider using different locations eg, airport/train stations in order to capture a range of situations and to document people in different scenes. Products & Proposals Function & Context Book The book will be an exploration of city Set of Prints life, a document that is relatable to in Web Comic & GIFs every emotion. As well as the book, the prints can be sold. The web comic and GIFs are more to enhance my online presence and expand my work across more functions. Context & Distribution Audience & Tone of Voice Online – blog/website Audience: Book/Print stores – CMV, Village books etc. People who live in big cities Students? Tone of Voice: - Relatable - Emotional - Atmospheric Additional information/Considerations Plan where it is the research will take place each day so that the days are not wasted. Also consider the amount of time spent in each place. It also needs to be considered whether the live drawings will be used alongside the monoprints, will the live drawings only act as research or will they be featured in the final outcomes? Deliverables Set of monoprints Book Web comic GIFs
