Derby Delayed
Churchill Downs is capable of accommodating 165,000 spectators. Still, for this year’s rescheduled Derby weekend, one without paid spectators, the crowd's roar was replaced by an uncharacteristic quiet. SL’s own Tony Bailey was at the track on Oaks and Derby to capture the action, which saw Authentic, trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by jockey John Velazquez win the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby. Shedaresthedevil, trained by Brad Cox, and ridden by Florent Geroux, posted a stakes-record time of 1:48:28 en route to an Oaks win.
