5 Emphasize time on task Time management is the ability to plan and control how you spend the hours in your day to effectively accomplish your goals. Psychology Today
Time Management • Managing one's time is critical for both students and professionals alike • Effective learning requires time • Today's students need help with time management
• How can an institution [faculty and/or advisors] define time management expectations for students?
6 Communicate high standards
• Any effort to set high educational standards for students in a classroom, school, or educational setting
High Expectations • Expect more and you get more. • Students who are clear about the
expectations placed on them will perform to the level(s) of expectations set by their teachers for them.
• Students that are challenged by
their teachers will go beyond their own expectations
• Lower expectations, lower performance
• Require major investments from
University-time, effort, and resources
• Challenging the expectations of students can sometimes cause teachers elevating their own expectations of themselves • Improving the learning experiences
7 Respect diverse talents and ways of learning
• Diverse talents and ways of learning address the different types of students and their differing learning styles.
Diverse Learning • "There are many roads to learning." • Students are bringing different learning styles with them to college.
• Indication that greater learning opportunities are needed due the influx of Generation Y and Z students
