Fabulation refers to a form of fiction that is characterized by bending the traditional constraints of realism to explore new narrative territories. Our wild romp through the future examines our environment, tech, evolution, and love through this lens. Artificial Intelligence, the multiverse, genders, robots, and mutation pass through our fashion show galaxy. Ultimately this show is about the collective power of humanity to create something that showcases the incredible talent we have in this valley, while bringing you — the audience — an experience that elicits joy, thoughtfulness, laughter, and artistry. Who knows what lies in store in our real future, but in our fabulation, love triumphs. Enjoy!!
A dancer in the fashion show since 2015, Meagan became the director of Dance/Choreography and Sound Designer in 2019. She was a member of CoMotion Dance Company from 2015-2023, and has taught for and danced in movement projects, programs, and residencies with Dance Initiative. Her choreography includes content generated by the amazing cast of dance artists you will see slaying the stage tonight. She wishes to give a special thanks to Emily Fifer for her unwavering assistance, Dana Ellis for her creative input, and sends so much love and gratitude to Stephen, Vivienne, and Mabel for believing, supporting, and existing in the first place. She dedicates her work to her father, Frank, who never missed a show, and is probably here tonight.
Founding creator of the show and community visionary, Amy was Executive Director of Carbondale Arts (CA) for 12 years and oversaw The Mountain Fair for 19 years. In her tenure at CA she formed the Carbondale Creative District, created the Rio Grande ARTway, and elevated education programming. Amy now oversees the Palisade Bluegrass and Roots Fest, is working with the Town of Carbondale on the Town Center project, writes grants for La Clinica del Pueblo, and looks forward to supporting all the folks that continue to embody and carry on the creative vibe!
Laura has been a part of the fashion show since she moved to Carbondale in 2012. She began working for Carbondale Arts in 2013 and led the design and branding for The Launchpad, Carbondale Creative District, and CCAH’s rebrand as Carbondale Arts. A lover of all things design-related, Laura is a UI/UX designer and Creative Director for The League app by day, and by night sews collections for the show and edits/animates/ films the projections while squeezing in as much soccer, volleyball, and skiing as she can in between.
We are so excited to share this show with you! It has been months and months in the making, through the heart and talent of your friends, family, co-workers, friends of friends, and everyone in-between.
All of the money raised from the Green is the New Black Fashion Extravaganza keeps the arts alive and thriving in the Carbondale Creative District. Your tickets, your sponsorships, your memberships are an investment in our beloved community.
The Carbondale Arts mission is to build an inclusive and vibrant community through the arts. That takes all of us, it takes a little messiness, and it takes choosing to try to understand each other over and over again.
We thank you for your continued support, for showing up, for showing up for your friends and family, and for showing up for your incredible community.

Every year Green is the New Black raises funds to support Carbondale Arts’ education programs. This year’s fashion show brings this mission full circle as the Carbondale Arts Creative Apprentice Program contributes a line in the show. Over the course of 9 weeks, 6 teen apprentices from 4 schools have been working with 3 local artists to create the line, History of the Future from The Progressors. Facilitated by The Project Shop as part of their ReWear initiative, this group of youth artists have conceptualized, iterated, and constructed the six looks in this upcycled line.
Immediately the youth brought their keen perspective, pointed critique, and ability to imagine possible futures to their design. As they write, “In a world on the brink, we choose unity and hope by re-imagining garments of the past, constructed from the discarded waste of our present, into looks for our future.”
As two organizations with complementary missions, this collaboration with the Project Shop celebrates their community-based, service-learning arts education with the Creative Apprentice Program’s youth employment and career preparedness initiatives. Now in its third year, Carbondale Arts’ Creative Apprentice Program pays teens to work with local artists to create works of community value. This youth-driven program supports and values teens of all backgrounds by giving them a platform to develop and express their unique perspectives through exposure to creative professions.
CMC’s Outdoor Soft Goods Manufacturing (OSGM) program, based out of the Aspen campus, was built to complement the Steamboat campus Ski & Snowboard Business/Action Sports Industry programs where they specialize in the design and manufacture of outdoor hard goods such as skis and snowboards. After months of collaboration with Colorado-based clothing companies such as Jagged Edge, Obermeyer, Big Agnes, Phunkshun, and Corbeaux, the OSGM program was designed to include coursework in Product Development and Design, Sewing, Upcycle & Repair, Sustainability, Global Action Sports, and Entrepreneurship. After the first semester of classes, CMC is proud to sponsor the Green is the New Black fashion show and highlight the designs of our students and faculty. We look forward to a long-lasting partnership in helping young designers find outlets for their creativity.
