Carbondale Historical Society creates a sense of connection to Carbondale and its people through shared stories, photos, historical records and artifacts, available on our website and at our two museums:

The Thompson House Museum, a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1885 by Myron Thompson, one of the fi rst settlers in the Crystal River Valley. The home is fi lled with the furniture, decor and personal belongings of its original inhabitants Hattie and Oscar Holland, and their Thompson family descendants.

The Dinkel Mercantile Museum replicates the early 1900s frontier store built by William Dinkel, the “Daddy of Carbodnale.” It features a souvenir shop, apothecary and displays of Ute Indians, mining and ranching history.
