Our Humble Beginning John Robertson

As the business grew, John moved into a larger building and joked, “At that time I owed the bank about $18,000. Within 14 years, I was so successful I owed over $450,000!” The company added plumbing supplies in 1947. Twenty five years later, John was one of the industry’s largest wholesalers, with five branches. Innovations in billing, inventory control and a low-cost material handling system earned him “Supply House Times Wholesaler of the Year” honors in 1959. Over the years, RHS has established many pioneering approaches to the wholesale business, including offering Price Service Catalogs to customers, printing direct mailers and monthly promotion pages in-house on a company printing press. John Robertson was a giant in the plumbing and heating industry with his leadership and impactful knowledge of tax laws and LIFO, in particular. RHS was the first in the industry to adopt LIFO. John had an incredible memory, awareness to detail, and a grasp of the big picture. In 1983 at the age of 71, John Robertson was named Wholesaler of the Quarter Century.

The success of Robertson Heating Supply Co. began in 1934 with three people working out of a 2-car garage in Alliance, Ohio. John Robertson sold coal stoker furnaces to heating contractors from the back of a coal truck. John kept a small inventory of parts and materials that he would sell to dealers to accommodate them. From that humble beginning, Robertson Heating Supply Co. was born.

Not only was John Robertson a leader in the industry, but he was also a community leader who proudly served on the board of many organizations in the Alliance community. He and his wife, Virginia, have been generous supporters of the YMCA, Elks, Shriners, Masons, the Robertson Youth Center, church board and more. Meet the RHS Team Plumbing Department: This is a strong team of individuals with over 150 years of combined industry experience. The Plumbing Department consists of product managers, product assistants, commercial quotations and customer service. These individuals are responsible for the continued development of strong purchasing tactics and strengthening the relationship between vendors, representative agencies and Robertson Heating Supply to solidify the best pricing practices to our customers throughout our sales team.

HVAC (Heating) Department: This group of knowledgeable people head up the purchasing of heating equipment throughout the Robertson territory. They maintain the inventory control of this equipment; as well as promoting our strong HVAC product lines. The Customer Service Representatives are available to offer product support.

Credit Department: This department is made up of dedicated people who do their very best to serve our customers by analyzing credit information to make an accurate determination of extending credit. In addition, each team member is responsible for reviewing customer accounts that have a balance due that is beyond the normal credit terms provided by Robertsonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s. Our goal is to do our best to work with our customers so they want to buy from RHS not only today, but for many years into the future.

Accounting Department: This department is comprised of 10 full-time and four part-time employees handling many diverse tasks, ranging from general ledger to payroll to accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. They file tax returns on federal,

state and local levels; provide financial statements to the owners; perform all payroll functions including filing of payroll tax returns; process all payments from customers; approve of and pay all purchases and reconcile bank accounts and inventory balances.

Meet the RHS Team The voice of RHS Printing Department: This department creates, prints and distributes most of our RHS promotional and seminar flyers along with intercompany forms, business cards and memos. We maintain our printed price book consisting of approximately 600 individual pages and a three-ring binder. The department stocks and distributes product literature to our branches and customers. Not many industry distributors can boast that they have an in-house print shop!

Meet the RHS Team IS (Information Systems) Department: This department provides and supports all Information Technology Services for our employees and customers. They create their own custom software to help run the company, including, but not limited to, our website (rhs1.com); invoice and statement processing; inventory management and communications.

Engineering Department: Robertsonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Engineering and Technical Services Department takes pride in the support offered to our dealers before, during and after the sale. This includes dealer meetings, training and consulting on job equipment, capabilities and sizing, providing information needed to present to the dealerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s customer and by providing technical information, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.

Kitchen and Bath Showroom Department: This department offers support to all of our branches and customers in the sale of kitchen and bath cabinets, as well as plumbing product from the showroom. We offer computerized design and rendering services; as well as providing quotations for anything from single kitchen to large, multi-family projects.
