Latin, Language of the Church, by Pope John Paul XXIII reiterates the position of Holy Mother Church regarding Latin, the enriched and constantly beloved language of the Apostolic See. He calls Latin, “truly Catholic.” Pope John XXIII issued the directives in this booklet “to ensure that the ancient and uninterrupted use of Latin be maintained and, where necessary, restored.” It is interesting to read his 1962 position regarding this ancient and vital language and compare that to the Church’s perspective today, more than 50 years later.
