Photographer’s Note I love capturing the pure joy and genuine happiness of people and that’s just what I got with KC. Over the past two years we’ve known each other, I’ve been able to listen to her story with life while contributing to the chapter she’s been creating here at Pepperdine. KC is an amazing soul one should befriend; her servant’s heart and compassionate personality is seen with everyone she’s with and it was simply an honor to capture the beauty of one amazing friend. It was a blast photographing that spirit KC radiates and I hope you all can see a glimpse of that through these images.

About KC
I
am currently a Junior at Pepperdine and am studying history while working to obtain my teaching credential. I love playing guitar, eating donuts, watching USC football, hanging with friends and family, and singing Christmas songs. I am extremely passionate about history and education. I hope to help reform education within high schools by fostering safe learning environments where students can openly express and discuss their opinions.

How did it feel to not wear makeup during the photoshoot?
I
t felt weird to be taking pictures without makeup. While I know most people wouldn’t necessarily know the difference between photos of me with makeup and photos without, I could tell. I appreciated it though, as I frequently wear makeup. It was a nice change.

What is your ethnicity and what is considered beautiful in your culture?
I
am White American. For Caucasian females, especially in America, there is a high emphasis on size and weight. Many people of Caucasian descent value being skinny, blonde, and tan.

When do you feel the most beautiful?
O
ver the past several years, I have struggled to pinpoint what makes me feel beautiful. I think what ultimately makes me feel beautiful is knowing that since the beginning of time, God has created everything in His image. Each one of us is created after God’s own perfect design. It is encouraging to know that I am designed by a faultless creator, artist, and King.

Who inspires you?
W
ithout a doubt, my mother inspires me. I respect her confidence, intuitiveness, and loyalty. She truly understands the meaning and importance of inner beauty. She is a women who willingly sacrifices her own self-interest for the interests of others, whether that be family, friends, or even strangers.

What is your favorite part of your body?
M
y green eyes. I love the color green, because, for me, it represents life. So, I enjoy looking at my eyes!
27
How do you build your own self-confidence?
I
typically build my self-confidence through my relationships with others. If I show a genuine desire to invest in an individual
and they, in turn, invest in me, my self-confidence grows. I also build my self-confidence through continual reflection on simple truths. One truth that I find most important is that one’s heart should define his or her true beauty. While many find this truth clichÊ and overused, I continually find it refreshing.
