PL AYBILL THE THIRST OF HEARTS
THE THIRST OF HEARTS THOMAS MCKECHNIE ADAPTED FROM WAR AND PEACE BY LEO TOLSTOY }{
approximate running time: 1 hour 45 minutes. there will be no intermission
ARTIST NOTE: THOMAS MCKECHNIE Before we wipe ourselves out as a species we should send a copy of War and Peace and a math-based Rosetta Stone for understanding Russian into space. This could be our apology, “Yes, something in our ideological systems or basic nature led us to destroy the perfect little life-sustaining marble we found ourselves on, BUT WE ALSO MADE THIS!” Aliens might read it and if there is even a shred of us in them, if we aren’t completely alone in this universe, then they will know us. The possibility that someday, someone will look at us and know the awful loneliness of our walk through existence. And that the pain of that walk might be met with recognition and empathy, is a little light glittering in the great dark…
So here we are, in this room, about to watch my attempt to bring Tolstoy to the stage for you. An attempt I made in hopes that we might know each other a little more… that passing through the crucible together, witnessing each other, knowing each other, we might be refined… we might emerge cleaner. We might be angels somewhere, maybe angels.
