Moravian Karst Circuit It took nature a very long time to prepare all the surprises on this route for you – stalactite formations in caves, deep abyss as well as white limestone rocks. If you are visiting the Moravian Karst for the first time, you will be really surprised. And if you have already seen theses places, then you know why you are coming back again.

Route length: 23 km Route difficulty level: semi-difficult, several climbs Starting point: Skalní Mlýn (Rocky Mill) Other suitable starting points: Sloup, Ostrov u Macochy, Blansko From Skalní mlýn (Rocky Mill) we go on the small road following the red tourist mark (and at the same time the long-distance cyclo-route No 5, called Amber Path) to Pustý žleb; the educational path Macocha partially joins our way. We reach The Punkva caves, pass the bottom station of the cable-car and we continue through a long valley to Sloup. We can stop and go to visit other caves – Sloupsko-šošůvské – and we continue along the red mark and at the same time cyclo-route No 5075 around the church up to a steep hill, through Šošůvka and then through the meadows following the cyclo-route No 5078 to Holštejn. We can make a short turn-off to the local castle ruins and then we continue to Ostrov u Macochy. The Amber Path once again joins us for several kilometres. We can stop at the Balcarka cave and by the stone wind-mill. We continue on the road through Suchý žleb (cyclo-route No 5082) towards Vilémovice and Jedovnice and following the direction signs we go to Macocha. On the road we go back to Suchý žleb and go down the hill as far as Skalní mlýn (Rocky Mill); on the way we can see the rocky Čertův most (Devil’s Bridge) and visit Kateřinská cave. Central Information Service Skalní Mlýn – www.cavemk.cz

Landscape preservation area Moravian Karst The whole countryside with valleys, abysses, subterranean rivers and more than a thousand cave labyrinths lures many visitors every year. Unbelievably beautiful underground world and surface karst formations are the work of a long development of nature, especially the ability of water to dissolve some minerals, above all limestone. Open to the public are the caves Punkva, Balcarka, Kateřinská and Sloupskošošůvské caves. The interest in the Punkva and Kateřinská cave exceeds visitors’ capacity especially in the summer season, it is necessary to make reservations in advance. The entrance point to the central area of Moravian Karst is in Skalní Mlýn (Rocky Mill), the electric eco-train takes visitors to the Punkva caves and the cable-car leads to the Macocha Abyss. www.cavemk.cz

Balcarka Cave in the rocky headland of the Balcar Rock stands out with its rich and many-faceted stalactite decoration. Findings of fireplaces and tools from the Old Stone Age prove that the first inhabitants lived in this area already in the ancient times.

Kateřinská cave

Macocha Circa 138 m deep abyss was created by the collapse of the cave dome ceiling. The subterranean river Punkva flows through this area, in the walls of the abyss are entrances into the caves. Two look-out bridges offer a view into the depth.

Valuable archaeological and palaeontological excavation site, discovery of skeletons of the cave bears. Sometimes held in the massive dome, 95 metres long and 44 metres wide, the biggest in the Moravian Karst, are classical as well as popular music concerts.

Sloupsko-šošůvské caves Extended labyrinth of the subterranean part of the Sloupský brook, almost 7,5 km long. The cave is made up of two storeys with a height difference of 70 metres, both storeys are connected by the deep abysses with a beautiful stalactite decoration. Part of the cave space serves for speleo-therapeutic treatment of children. A part of the cave complex is the tunnel cave Kůlna, world-famous archaeological site and at the same time the most signifi cant settlement of Neanderthal man. During the Second World War it was used as an underground factory for the manufacture of weapons.

Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape The magnificent trip will take you to the largest artistically composed landscape in the world, created by human hands with exceptional sensibility. During two hundred years a beautiful world was created, where free nature blends with parks and chateau gardens, ponds and rivers are supplemented by canals, and all that is crowned by two magnificent chateau residences and a number of smaller architectural buildings. The final element missing – is just you.

The Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape Garden of Europe covering an area of almost 200 km 2 between Břeclav, Lednice and Valtice was built by the powerful aristocratic family of Liechtenstein. In May 1997 the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape was listed in the UNESCO World Index of Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Lednice The town was established around the medieval keep, in the 16 th century a chateau was built on its site, today being a pearl of romantic architecture, one of the most popular chateaux in the Czech Republic. Its current appearance it gained during the Neo Gothic reconstruction in mid 19 th century; the greenhouse dates back to the same period. Found in the chateau is an exhibition depicting the development of the gardens, hunting and game-keeping, the surrounding gardens and parks naturally blend into the swamp forest. It is possible to take a boat trip along the chateau Dyje from the chateau water works as far as the Minaret and Janohrad.

Route length: 39 km Route difficulty level: easy, prevailing flat profile Starting point: Lednice Other suitable starting points: Břeclav, Valtice, Sedlec

Valtice

From Lednice we go along the cyclo-route 5066 towards Podivín. Behind the bridge over the river Stará Dyje we turn right to the Velké Pavlovice wine route, on the right hand side we pass the gardens of the Lednice chateau with the Minaret and we go to Janohrad. On the small bridge we again cross the Stará Dyje river and on the cyclo-route No 41 around the Hunting Lodge we go back to Lednice, where we join the cycloroute No 5045. We go on the dam between the Mlýnský and Prostřední (Middle) ponds and behind them we turn right towards the temple of Three Graces. We go up the asphalt road and go left to Nový dvůr. We can take a small turn-off (circa 3 km) to Apollo’s Temple and go the same way back. We continue through the forest to the crossroads Ladenská alej, we pass the forest chapel of St. Hubert and Rendez-vous, go on through the lane called Ladenská alej and we go down to Valtice. Here we join the Mikulov wine-growing route (and at the same time cyclo-route No 411), which leads us to the colonnade at Rajstna. We turn right and around the customs office Valtice – Schrattenberg we go to the village of Úvaly and then between fields and vineyards as far as to Sedlec. On the village green we turn right and along the bank of the Nesyt pond. We follow the cyclo-route No 41 going back around Hraniční zámeček (Border chateau) through Hlohovec to Lednice. Behind the dam between the Hlohovecký and Prostřední (Middle) ponds we can have a look at the Rybniční zámeček (Fishpond chateau) on the right.

A town with an urban preservation zone and richly decorated baroque chateau, once the residence of the Liechtenstein noble family. Very popular are the yearly Valtice Wine Markets, found in Valtice are many wine shops and wine bars, the chateau houses the National winegrowing centre and national salon of wines of the Czech Republic. Situated on the square is the church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The local secondary agricultural school is the only one in the Czech Republic that has wine-growing specialisation.

Hnanice According to the legend in the Hnanice forest once lived a devout hermit Daníž, famous for his healing abilities. The spring, which was gushing nearby his hut, got the name Daníž’s spring and later a chapel was built on top of it. Already since the 13th century pilgrims from the whole of Europe have been coming to the miraculous and healing spring in the chapel of St. Wolfgang. The original modest church was too small and so between 1483–1487 a three-nave church was built, today it is partially Gothic and partially Baroque.

Through the countryside of the Battle of Three Emperors On the 2nd December 1805 on the hillocks and in the valleys east of Brno one of the most significant events of European history of the 19th century and at the same time one of the most famous battles of the Napoleonic wars took place – the Battle of Austerlitz. The battleground rightfully belongs among the most attractive tourist localities of The Southern Moravia and due to its extraordinary significance was declared to be a protected historical zone in 1992. Every year at the beginning of December pious and commemorative events together with mock-battles take place at various locations starting from Austerlitz (Slavkov), through to the Peace Memorial Mohyla míru and up to Santon, Žuráň and Šlapanice.

Route length: 40 km Route difficulty level: easy to semi-difficult Starting point: Šlapanice Marking: on the marked cyclo-routes, specific marking within the Austerlitz Battlefield From Šlapanice square we turn right around the church and climb up the Žuráň knoll (last 50 m leads on the path through the fields). From Žuráň we go down to the main road No 430 and we follow it to the right to the motorest Rohlenka, where we turn left under the hillock of Santon (this stretch 2,5 km long leads on a very busy road). From Santon we go down to Tvarožná and then we go back to the main road towards Blažovice. We cross the main road, pass through Blažovice and we continue towards Zbýšov to the crossroads by the chapel, where we turn left to the cycloroute No 5097, which we follow to Křenovice. Here we leave the cycloroute and cross the railway continuing on the straight road to Slavkov, where we go to the square under the chateau. In Slavkov we again join the cyclo-route No 5097 and we follow it through Vážany and Hrušky back to Křenovice, and through the crossing, which we already know, we continue to Prace. Here we turn left following the direction sign and we slightly rise to the Mohyla míru (Peace Memorial). From here we go down to the other side of Prace hillock to Sokolnice and around the pheasantry through Kobylnice we return back to Šlapanice. Along the way we will see several stations of the Educational path “Battle of Three Emperors”, but to visit all the 29 stations would take at least two days. Every year hundreds and thousands of admirers of war history come to the place where on the 2nd December 1805 one of the biggest battles of the Napoleonic wars took place – the Battle of Austerlitz. Due to the fact that leading their armies personally were the French Emperor Napoleon I., the Russian Czar Alexander and the Austrian Emperor Franz II., the battle is also called “The Battle of the Three Emperors”. Up until the battles of Borodino and then of Leipzig the Austerlitz massacre was by sheer soldier power of 160,000 and number dead and wounded the bloodiest and biggest conflict of the Napoleonic wars. The battle of Austerlitz really was one of Napoleon’s biggest victories, although he was weaker in number, he succeeded in conquering the Allied Armies thanks to masterful tactics and strategy.

Peace Memorial (Mohyla míru) Stone Art Nouveau structure, standing for almost a hundred years on the highest point of Prace knoll, in the place of the crucial fight of the Battle of Austerlitz. The memorial was built as a timeless memento to victims of all wars. The exposition in the nearby museum depicts the course of the battle and military equipment of the period.

The hillock west of Tvarožná was the French artillery base. The hillock was before the battle altered and surrounded by three belts of trenches for infantry. The alterations of the terrain also destroyed the original chapel. Today’s Chapel of the Virgin Mary of the Snow dates back to 1832.

The knoll situated between Šlapanice and Podolí, one of the most famous and at the same time most historically valuable localities of the Austerlitz battleground. From here Emperor Napoleon saw the legendary sun of Austerlitz, “le soleil d´Austerlitz”. The plaque with a map shows the positions of the individual armies before the decisive battle.

Moravian wine-growing routes From the fresh green spring through dazzling summer days full of sunshine as far as the late golden autumn you can admire nature, monuments, highlights and old traditions of The Southern Moravia. Waiting for the small and the big cyclists are ten wine-growing regions, ten tourist circuits and a total of more than a thousand kilometres of well marked cycling routes. If you want to take just a short trip to an interesting destination or if you go on a two-week journey – is up to you. Favourable climate and affordable tourist services will guarantee a pleasant stay throughout the whole year. The remarkable project of the wine-growing routes is a common project of the wine-growing villages of The Southern Moravia and the Partnerství Foundation. Wine-growing routes differ from the common cycling routes not only by the more dense marking but also in the way they are led through the countryside. They do not lead straight, but zigzag through the countryside and link the places of significance and charm from the point of view of the wine-growing region introduction. Routes usually lead on quiet roads, somewhere on dirt or forest roads, they are passable even after rain and you can ride on them on mountain bikes as well as standard road bicycles and you don’t need to worry about any steeper climbs or declines. On the special maps issued for every wine-growing route, you will find enough information about lengths of individual routes, their altitude profiles and surface conditions. Marking of all routes can be easily recognised from the common logo in the colours of individual routes and yellow metal plates. Interesting points and services in the vicinity of the routes you can find on the information signs with pictographs, besides them in all villages on wine-growing routes you can find a board with a general map. www.stezky.cz www.vinarske-obce.cz

From Ivančice to the Heavenly Rose Wandering between orchards and vineyards in the Jihlava river valley is as if made for relaxation for body and mind. On top of that you will get to know the town, where the world famous painter was born, visit one of the most beautiful towns in The Southern Moravia with the romantic ruins of a medieval monastery and finally you can also taste the local excellent wines, especially Frankovka, Zweigeltrebe or Blue Portugal. Route length: 20 km Terrain: undulating, in some sections short steep climbs Starting point: Moravské Bránice Other suitable starting points: Ivančice, Dolní Kounice Starting from the railway station in Moravské Bránice we follow the red tourist mark going up hill towards Ivančice. We go along the vineyards and between fields, through the forest and then we go down to the valley to the Střibský Mill, originally a Renaissance building from the 16th century. Behind the mill we turn right following the mark and between holiday houses we rise up to a small stone look-out, which offers a breathtaking view over Ivančice, the opposite forest on the Rena hillock and the Jihlava river valley. From the look-out we go on directly to Ivančice. After we look at the town we go back to the red mark, cross the river and through a park with an open-air theatre and another small look-out we go up to the Rena hillock; on the rocky headland on the left hand side from the road once existed a fortified settlement, remaining today are randomly placed mounds and shallow moats. We follow the mark as far as the Ivančice railway viaduct; the torso of the older bridge on the opposite side of the valley is a reminder of the older viaduct built between 1868–1870, on which construction allegedly participated the famous constructor A. G. Eiffel. We go down under the bridge and along the river we reach Nové Bránice. The mark turns left, but we continue straight to Dolní Kounice to the ruins of the monastery Rosa Coeli, Heavenly Rose, and after looking around the town we go back on the opposite bank along the road to Moravské Bránice, where the red mark takes us safely back to the railway station. Cultural and information centre Dolní Kounice – www.dolnikounice.cz Cultural and information centre Ivančice – www.muiv.cz

Ivančice The town, where Alfons Mucha was born, one of the most signifi cant Art Nouveau painters; in Mucha’s House on the square is a memorial to this artist and a permanent exhibition. Dominating the town is a Gothic church with a Renaissance tower, located in the Palace of the Lords of Lipá from the beginning of the 17th century is the town hall. The synagogue and Jewish cemetery, one of the oldest in the Czech Republic, commemorates the former Jewish community. In Ivančic asparagus used to be grown; these traditions come alive every year in May during the popular Asparagus Festival.

Dolní Kounice A picturesque town with a number of interesting architectural sights. The Way of the Cross will lead you to a Baroque pilgrimage chapel, standing proudly above the town is a Renaissance chateau and situated below are the ruins of the Gothic monastery Rosa Coeli, remaining from the monumental complex is only the partially collapsed church of the Virgin Mary. Dolní Kounice is also a significant wine-growing town; grown here are one of the best blue varieties in Moravia.

To the Hardegg Look-Out There is no need to promote the Podyjí National Park; many people know that the trails above the meandering Dyje river are one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Czech Republic. On top of that the fresh air, beautiful countryside and waiting at the end is a fairytale castle… Don’t hesitate. Route length: 8 km Terrain: flat, not difficult Starting point: Čížov Starting from the parking lot before Čížov we go through the village, where we join the blue tourist mark. We can visit the Visitors’ Centre of the Podyjí National Park, have a look at a small exhibition and then we head on the asphalt road towards the state border. Especially if you travel with children, you should certainly accept an offer for a ride in a carriage or riding a horse. Before the road starts to drop steeply into the Dyje river valley, we turn right and after circa 500 metres we reach a small arbour above the river. This is the Hardegg look-out, which offers a breathtaking view over the smallest Austrian town Hardegg with the castle of the same name. Found in its interior is a museum exhibition of the Mexican Emperor Maxmilian Habsburg, executed in 1867, and the collections of Art of the Old American Nations – Mayans, Aztecs and Incas. Visitors’ Centre of the Podyjí National Park – www.nppodyji.cz

Čížov The bordering village and also the border crossing for cyclists and pedestrians. Found in the village is the Visitors’ Centre of the Podyjí National Park with a permanent exhibition of the protected area. Remains of the socalled Iron Curtain commemorate the times when the Znojmo region was the “border of peace and socialism” and the local monument and countryside were kept secret from tourists.

Podyjí The youngest and the smallest national park in the Czech Republic stretches from Znojmo as far Vranov nad Dyjí and its main feature is the bordering river Dyje. It is not suitable for boating, however, it is absolutely fantastic for fi shermen and those who want to enjoy its magic and grace. The most beautiful is the middle part of the flow between Podhradí and Znojmo, where it created a deep romantic valley with countless meanders. The western part of the valley is flooded by the water of the thirty kilometres long lake of the Vranov dam, the eastern part belongs to Podyjí National Park. The variety of the nature environment and extraordinary abundance of fauna and flora species is in respect to such a small area absolutely unique.

Monuments of the Jewish town in Boskovice In this charming country-town with a preservation zone we can admire many sights – Imperial-styled chateau, Gothic castle ruins, beautiful square as well as “Western town”. Found here is also the old Jewish quarter, or – so-called – ghetto, which is one of the best preserved monuments of Jewish culture not only in The Southern Moravia but also in the entire Czech Republic. On top of that out of all the Jewish communities in Moravia only Boskovice and Holešov were considered to be a separate municipality – “town within a town”. Route length: 1,5 km Number of stations: 27 Time: one to two hours Starting point: Boskovice, Hradní street Jewish communities have been living in The Southern Moravia for many centuries, leaving behind lasting footprints. Their rich history was ended by the Second World War. Some monuments have remained up to the present day – and just the old Jewish quarter with a synagogue, spa and cemetery is one of the most interesting places in Boskovice. The first mention about the Boskovice Jews dates back to the 1st half of the 13th century, although the enclosed Jewish town (ghetto) was established only in 1727. Two and later three gates and several chains used to separate it from the rest of the town. Architecturally limited space of the Jewish ghetto with circa a hundred houses caused many tragedies: the quarter was several times afflicted by extensive fires, at the beginning of the 18th century its population badly suffered from the plague epidemic. Despite this in mid 19 th century in Boskovice lived more than two thousand Jews, which represented a third of the town population. Just as other Jews from surrounding areas also the local people were dragged into the concentration camps in 1942, only 14 people came back. The educational path leads through the entire Jewish ghetto. Besides almost eighty houses you can see a fountain, shops, historical gate as well as a synagogue, which houses a Jewish museum. The former ghetto is protected as a unique urban complex. Town Information Centre Boskovice – www.boskovice.cz

Wine-growing educational route Valtice Town with a beautiful Baroque chateau, place of the yearly Valtice Wine Markets, the seat of the National wine-growing centre and National salon of wines, a number of wine bars and wine shops… Where else would we find an educational wine-growing route other than in Valtice, the town decorated and perfumed by wine? Route length: 5 km Number of stations: 19 Time: two to three hours, for people on foot as well as cyclists; in the chateau park it is necessary to push the bikes Starting point: Valtice – square From the square, where we can find a map of the route and basic information about local wine-growing traditions, we go towards the chateau. We walk to the Chateau cellar, where we find detailed information about the oldest Valtice wine cellar from 1430, and we walk through the garden around the tennis courts and one of the four former Duke’s cellars. Through the gate we get out between the fields and vineyards, we get on the asphalt road and we turn right. The following four stations will introduce us to what is going on in the vineyards during the individual seasons. We take a short break in the middle of the vineyard by the Cross Wine Cellar, we will discover the history of wine-growing in the Czech Republic and admire the view over Valtice and environs. The route leads us steeply down and then a long climb follows to the highest point of the wine-growing route, which is the colonnade on Rajstna. The knoll offers a beautiful view to the north, towards nearby Pálava, swamp forests near Lednice, forests on the slopes of the Chřiby mountain range and White Carpathiens. Past the boards summarising the history of the Mikulov wine-growing region and Valtice we reach the road and we turn right. Approximately after 500 metres we turn right again to the dirt road and to the vineyards of the Secondary wine-growing school Valtice, where other information boards are found. Directly in the vineyard we can have a look at the examples of the individual varieties of vine, various types of cultivation and formation. Along the vineyard, or on the road we continue towards Valtice, we pass around the building of the Secondary wine-growing school and through the little streets with wine cellars we wind back to the square. Accomodation Health Routes When you get tired and exhausted from the history, you can have a rest in the countryside. In Boskovice you have a choice of three tour circuits, three health routes. Altogether they are almost twenty kilometres long and they meet in the centre point on the main square. Built along them are several resting-places and they will lead you for example to the charming arboretum with rich collections of wood species, to the romance of the Wild West to “Western town”, to the Gothic castle ruins or to the surrounding forests.

Health Route Brno – Lelekovice and Babí Lom Look-Out Believe it or not, in the environs of large towns you can find places where time has stood still – for example in the valley of the Ponávka river on the northern outskirts of Brno. Let’s go to discover long forgotten scents and colours. Tree bark, damp soil and the glitter of the water surface, as well as the never-ending movement of small creatures, these are experiences, which revitalise and brighten our lives. Route length: 9,5 km Number of stations: 5 Time: two to four hours, for people on foot as well as cyclists, ideal for families with children Starting point: Brno – Mokrá hora, by the tennis courts The Health route leads mostly through the forest or on its edge and has only small altitude differences. The first route-station is by Mokrá Hora in a wide valley mead on the confluence of two brooks. On several places along the route we will come across the old railway embankment and remains of bridges, which are remnants of the old railway track from Brno to Tišnov. By the second route-station we can admire the sculpture gallery in nature, the third route-station will lead us to the former railway station. On the spot where the road to Jehnice leaves our route, we can find a small deserted granodiorite quarry, the typical mineral of the Brno massif. We will also stop by a small lake, rich with small creatures including crayfish, and along the red tourist mark we reach Lelekovice. From here we head up towards Babí lom and from the look-out finally we can enjoy the view over The Southern Moravia from a bird’s eye view.

Slovácko lying open The way to the first – and so far the only – look-out in the White Carpathiens Protected landscape area leads through genuine and inimitable Slovácko. With a bit of luck you will see more than painted houses, because the local villages keep their unique atmosphere on special occasions as well as on ordinary days. So, welcome to Slovácko! Route length: 15–19 km Terrain: semi-difficult, climb to the Travičná look-out Starting point: Strážnice From the square in Strážnice we follow the red tourist mark and the slightly rising dirt road will lead us to Tvarožná Lhota. Here we turn right, for about a kilometre we continue on a small road and then we leave it turning slightly right. For some time we slightly rise to the peak of Travičná (380 m). In the atrium of the look-out we can discover more about the countryside as well as history of the White Carpathiens, the exhibition also depicts the local folk traditions and available is also information about interesting sights in the vicinity, for example about the reconstructed wind mill in Kuželov. The more than fi fty metre tall look-out offers a breathtaking view over Pálava, part of Austria, Ždánice Forest and Chřiby with the Buchlov castle as well as Vizovice Hills and Hostýn Hills. To Strážnice we can return either the same way or to take the longer way through the recreational resort Lučina. In the second case we follow down the Health Route with see-saws and monkey-bars (and at the same time the red mark) to the crossroads Pod Travičnou, in summer we can go swimming in the nearby natural water reservoir, and then we follow the blue mark through the Radějovka river valley back to Strážnice. In Radějov the blue mark turns off to the left; we continue straight on the marked Šumárnická Educational path, which will lead us back to Strážnice square. Strážnice

Babí lom (562 m above sea level) The rocky mountain ridge with forests and the highest look-out point in the environs of the Brno city, popular tourist destination. The look-out on the southern end of the ridge is almost fifty years old, during favourable weather conditions it is possible to see about a third of The Southern Moravia and a part of Austria. When the weather is really clear, we can also see the 200 km distant peaks of the Alps.

The first mention dates back to 1086, when Strážnice was a rich market town, protected by a water castle. Remaining from the original fortification are two gateways, Veselská and Skalická. On the site of the castle today stands a Neo Renaissance chateau with a large English-styled park. A unique permanent exhibition of folk music instruments in the chateau. Another highlight is a complex with the Piarist buildings with a monastery and church. The former Jewish ghetto with ritual spa, synagogue and cemetery remind us of the significant Jewish community. Strážnice is also a town of folklore and folk Art; every year on the last weekend in June the International folklore festival is held. A typical picture of the White Carpathiens is a countryside of large meadows with scattered small fields, orchards and pastures, thanks to the leafy forests it resembles a huge English-styled park. The highest point of The Southern Moravia is Velká Javořina (970 m), since 1845 a traditional meeting place of Czechs and Slovaks. The White Carpathiens are covered by a dense network of cyclo-routes and tourist routes.

The magic of Moravian wine

Wine-growing events and programmes Wine-growing traditions of The Southern Moravia offer an array of wonderful flavours, scents and experiences, which you can discover throughout the whole year. At the turn of winter and spring, when the wine is already “matured”, you should visit one of the wine-tasting events, try the best wines of a particular wine-growing area and evaluate together with winegrowers, how last year’s yield turned out. From the early spring to the late autumn you can admire the colourful splendour of traditional village feast – for the occasion of the celebration of the patron of the village or the local church. On feast day, usually Saturday, the village is spick and span, the parade of the youth in folk costumes goes from one end of the village to the other, standing on the village green is the decorated May pole and loud celebrations go on all night, often to the next (...and next...) day. However, among the most treasured moments in the wine-growing villages is the vintage, time, when the whole year’s effort of wine-growers reaches its peak at harvest time. The most famous and most popular vintage festivals are the Znojmo and Pálava vintage festivals. The historical parades go through the towns of Znojmo and Mikulov accompanied by clanging of the church bells and festive fanfares. The medieval handicraft markets and army camps fill up the town centres, music sounds from every nook and cranny and people dance and rejoice on the squares. The spectacular medieval splendour is crowned by knight jousting, groups of historical fencing, theatres, competitions for children and festive evening fireworks. But above all – the gates of the town’s wine cellars are opened and the local wine is tasted – not only the matured wine, but also new half-fermented wine. Even if you missed the vintage festival you should still come, you will certainly find something according to your taste from the selection of tens and maybe hundreds of wine exhibitions, which are held throughout the whole year. Maybe you will be lucky and will take part in Wine Blessing, winter wine-growing celebration, held on St. Martin’s Day. On that day the wine-growers meet in the church, where the samples of wine are blessed; according to the traditions the wine-grower should then pour at least a few drops of blessed wine into each wine barrel in his cellar. St. Martin celebration is accompanied by wine-tasting, celebrating and a big banquet, crowned by the golden roasted Martin goose. Bon appetite! Every year at the beginning of May hundreds of wine lovers arrive at the chateau riding school at the Valtice chateau. Valtice Wine Markets are not only a competition of wine-growers capable of supplying wine for the market, but also a social event. The tradition is also awarding the prestige prize of CHAMPION VVT and gold, silver and bronze medals to the three best wines of each variety or kind of wine. Perhaps due to the fact that the Valtice Wine Markets are one of the most strictly judged exhibitions in the Czech Republic, these awards are a matter of prestige and represent individual wine-growers. The magic of Moravian wine

Wine, wine shops and wine cellars Can you guess what makes you and your friends happy? A small hint: what is the symbol of The Southern Moravia? The answer is simple: wine. The straight lines of vineyards on the slopes of The Southern Moravia, the glittering potion, picturesque architecture of wine cellars, the sun hidden in mellowing grapes and berries, alluring atmosphere, traditions, family heritage, noble hobby as well as hard work, crowned by pure joy – all this and much more is contained in every bottle of local wine. You can enjoy it directly in the authentic environment of local vineyards and wine cellars, taste and buy in the wine shops, and perhaps to take it home with you as a precious and stylish souvenir. Just Moravian wine, carefully corked and wrapped, can be a memory, which will keep you warm and which even after many years will remind you of the charms of the fertile land, full of wine, sun and pure human happiness. But how to pick the best one? Instead of a long description we would rather offer you a few practical hints. • What is it? Wine-growers in The Southern Moravia usually grow thirty-five traditional and lesser known varieties of vine. From the white varieties the most popular are Valtelina, Rhine Riesling and Italian Riesling, Müller Thurgau, Sauvignon and Chardonnay, from the red varieties the traditional four – St. Laurent, Limberger, Zweigeltrebe and Portugieser. • Typical for The Southern Moravia are quality label wines. The popularity of these wines in the Czech Republic is growing from year to year, wines are bought more often in specialised shops and the interest in quality brands is increasing. • In the middle of tough competition the wine producers try to grab the attention of customers with wines of higher and higher quality. The scale of quality of wines in the Czech Republic starts from common table wines and goes on through to quality mixtures of several varieties (label wines) to the varietal wines and finally to the wines with an attribute. • Wines with an attribute are made from sweeter grapes than quality wines and according to the sugar content they are named with attributes of cabinet (19), late gathered (21), selection from grapes (24) or selection from berries (27 degrees). This assortment is complemented by the barrique, straw, ice and sparkling wines. Stated on the labels of all attributive wines is the producer, vintage, wine-growing region, village or vineyard. • No matter if you buy wine in a shop or wine cellar, almost always the prise is considered. Unfortunately the rule that the dearer is the better does not apply, because you often pay for rarity, popular brand or ambitions of the producer. However, it is not good to skimp, choose with no feelings or without a drop of luck. All in all we can say that in the Czech Republic you will get good quality for a surprisingly low price.

National Salon of Wines The National Salon of Wines is based in the premises of the National wine-growing centre in the Valtice chateau. The company focuses on training and professional education of wine-growers and wine-tasters, promotion of winegrowing and wines, it also organises the competition Salon of Wines of the Czech Republic, the highest and most prestigious competition in the country. Only wines made from local grapes can be included in the competition. The expert committee judges the samples of wines and every year selects a maximum of one hundred wines which are given the right to mark the bottles with the prestigious label “Salon vín České republiky” – “Salon of wines of the Czech Republic”. The above-mentioned collection of the hundred best Moravian and Czech wines is placed in the cellars of the Valtice chateau as a permanent wine-tasting exposition. Visitors have the opportunity to taste all the displayed samples, or to select among wine-tasting programmes, supervised by a sommelier. Vinum Bonum Wine-shops Excellent Moravian wines and the romantic atmosphere of castles and chateaux create the perfect combination, which charms every visitor to The Southern Moravia. Therefore let the network of stylish wine-shops Vinum Bonum to dazzle you. Three of them are found directly in the charming noble residences, the fourth one you can find on the square in Valtice. Besides a wide selection of wines including wine-growing specialities and gift packs the Vinum Bonum wine-shops offer a large choice of goods, closely related to the wine serving culture: glasses, sommelier utensils, expert literature, souvenirs and pictures. The offer is crowned by the selection of wines for long-term storage and so-called big wines, produced in small quantities, which often become valuable collectors’ items and jewels of private wine collections. Vinum Bonum wine-shops include a wine cellar in Valtice, dating back probably to 1680. The classic brick vaulted cellar is found in the premises of the former Franciscan monastery, very close to the old town fortification wall. The magic of Moravian wine

Templar wine cellars Čejkovice

Tanzberg Mikulov – Winery Bavory

The first written mention about Čejkovice dates back to 1248 and is connected with the keep, built by the members of the Templar Knights Order. Together with the keep built were the Templar cellars, still legendary for their size, which were and still are used for storage and maturing of wines. Whilst the cellars are the property of the Čejkovice winegrowing co-operative, the former Templar keep was converted into the Zámek hotel – and believe us, that accommodation in the stylish Gothic keep can really be a very pleasant experience, especially if you spice up your stay here by a visit to the local chateau wine-shop with a complete assortment of wine from the Mutěnice wine-growing region or the wine bar U Templářů with a capacity up to 170 seats. Favourable climatic and geographical conditions together with the tradition of quality processing and storage of wines in the Templar cellars put Čejkovice among the most significant wine-growing regions in The Southern Moravia. The assortment of wines, sold under the brand name Templářské Sklepy, will certainly satisfy even the most demanding lovers of wine. Lechovice Wine cellars

The winery is found in the reconstructed buildings, stretching back in history to the 17th century. The company looks after 68 ha of vineyards in the warmest region of the Czech Republic, on the foothills of Pálava in Mikulov, Bavory and Perná. The production is environment friendly, limited usage of chemicals, lesser burden on vine bushes, reduction of crop and care of individual grapes. The company Tanzberg Mikulov focuses exclusively on production of high quality attributive wines, whilst the basic philosophy is to create the most natural product possible. Therefore the winery is equipped with the most advanced technology and the processing of grapes is carried out immediately after gathering. Found in the winery Bavory is besides production premises also a wineshop, where waiting for individual visitors as well as smaller groups is daily wine-tasting. For sale are wines of quality vintages in the varieties of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Valtelina, Italian Riesling, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Limberger, Zweigeltrebe, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. The company also offers special programmes with supervised winetasting in the agreed amount and varieties in the cellar premises with a professional guide. Lechovice Wine cellars belong among the traditional producers of quality natural wines in the Znojmo wine-growing region. The total area of their vineyards is circa 120 ha and all the quality varietal wines in the Lechovice Wine Cellars are produced exclusively from the grapes from their own vineyards, because only this connection gives the company the right to emphasise on the wine labels, that it was “filled by the wine-grower”. Used during the production are classic as well as modern production technologies, the production of the best quality wines is located in the cellar in the chateau park from the 18th century. The assortment of white varieties includes Müller Thurgau, Valtelina, Italian Riesling, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Moravian Muscat, red varieties are represented by Limberger and St. Laurent. Among the most valued wines belong Gewürtztraminer with a full-bodied spicy flavour and the high quality Sauvignon. The visitors are welcomed to the excursion through the historical cellar with wine-tasting and to the wine restaurant with excellent cuisine. You can also order a performance of fencers and dulcimer music, or you can watch the displays of the classic method of production process of sparkling wines, try the sparkling wines by candle light and the selected wines directly in the vineyard. Nové Mlýny reservoirs In the beautiful environment below Pálava is the place where yachters and water sports lovers from all over Europe come to meet. That’s why there is a rich range of tourist services: hire of row boats and sailing boats, windsurfi ng school and hire, hire of bicycles and sporting equipment, beach volleyball playground, tennis courts, not forgetting a helter-skelter, children’s and minigolf playgrounds and summer cinema. When wandering around Pasohlávky on foot or by bicycle don’t forget to visit Hradisko, which is with its 220 m the highest point in the area. From there the visitors have a beautiful view over the entire water area of Nové Mlýny from Drnholec up to Nové Mlýny – but the place is interesting especially for its history. In the last century at Hradisko discovered were remains of a Roman army camp from the second century AD. In the northern part of the knoll we can still see the remains of excavation work of archaeologists and take an imaginary walk in the footsteps of the soldiers of Marcus Aurelius.

Abolished village of Mušov When looking over the middle reservoir of the Nové Mlýny lakes a church standing on an island in the middle of the water will grab your attention. It is the only visible remainder of the flooded village of Mušov, however, it has a very significant cultural and historical value. The church of St. Linhart is originally a Romanesque structure from the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, after the later alterations only the southern wall of the nave with a portal and windows were preserved. During research in the church Gothic murals were discovered and a painting from the first half of the 16th century. The middle reservoir is also an interesting Nature Reserve, where many species of waterfowl find sanctuary and winter habitat.

Jedovnice A popular recreation resort with several ponds lying in the Moravian Karst. The largest fishpond Olšovec covering an area of 40 ha is used for breeding fish and recreation. It is famous especially among the owners of speedboats; races and international competitions are regularly held here. Found here are also children’s playgrounds, many restaurants and of course the popular hire of row boats and pedal boats.

For the small and the big swimmers

Boat trips through the Lednice-Valtice landscape complex on the chateau river of Dyje The Lednice chateau park, included in the Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape complex, was created and has been going through changes for at least three centuries. Neighbouring with the southern, geometrically regular French part of the park is the northern English-styled park with a fishpond and sixteen islands with bird colonies. The boat trips on the chateau river Dyje are getting more and more popular and thousands of visitors have already seen the romantic countryside of the swamp forests. Boats having a maximum capacity of sixteen persons set off from the stylish harbour below the Moorish water works in the chateau park and they take tourists on two routes. The first shorter route offers interesting views over the chateau park and leads to the sixteen metre tall Minaret. The second longer route leads from the Minaret through the meanders of the Old Dyje and through the well-preserved swamp forest to the imitation castle ruins of Janohrad. The biggest boat of the fleet on the chateau river Dyje is the nine-metre long iron raft, christened with a cute name Arnoštek, which a few years ago served as a ferry on the Vltava river near Prague. Now in its historical appearance resembling the 1920’s it can carry up to twenty passengers and besides people it also carries bikes. 1. Sightseeing boat trips on the Brno Dam The Brno Dam, called also Kníničská (by the former village, which was flooded and today lies on its bottom) was built on the Svratka river between 1936 – 1940. Although its dam wall is only 120 metres long, it retains a lake covering an area of 252 ha and 10 km long. The trips to the Brno Dam cannot be imagined without trips on the boats, which have been cruising the surface of the lake for more than half a century. A rarity in Europe is not only the fact that the water transport is included in the city public transport, but also the ecological and quiet power of all the boats using accumulator batteries. Thanks to eleven stops along the dam you can plan a trip as long as you wish, you can go on a small circuit to the Veveří castle or to enjoy an hour trip to Veverská Bítýška, where the Brno Dam begins. The current fleet is made up of two smaller single-decked boats and four double-decked ones. Sightseeing tourist boat trips on the Dyje river and Nové Mlýny reservoirs You can admire all the charms of the Dyje river around Břeclav or enjoy the view over the Pálava and its environs from the surface of the Nové Mlýny reservoirs. In the harbour in Břeclav you can find two larger boats with a capacity of 24 persons and several powerboats for four persons. In the Merkur harbour in Pasohlávky two sightseeing motor boats are ready, one of them can carry up to 45 persons. The big boats are usually covered, they offer refreshments and plenty of seats. It is possible to arrange simple and cheap accommodation at the camping site in Pasohlávky. Bata Canal – a place where the burning sun is bathing in the waves of the Morava river Water tourism is quite rare in the Czech Republic. However, there is an exception, which is certainly worth visiting – the Bata Canal, tourist water canal cutting through Slovácko from the north to the south. A technical and nature monument, built between 1934–38 for agricultural irrigation and freight boats, navigable in the 65 km long stretch from Otrokovice to Petrov, in the neighbouring river parts and in the environs of Hodonín. For long decades it wasn’t used, the tourist boat trips were launched again in 1995. Now cruising on the Bata canal are several sightseeing boats and tens of small boats and crafts. In Spytihněv, Staré Město, Veselí nad Moravou, Strážnice and Hodonín you can find boat hire, where you either pay for a boat trip or hire your own boat – starting from an hour cruise on a small craft or canoe up to several days trips on a houseboat. Every Sunday from May to August you can also go on a regular traffic boat line between Veselí nad Moravou and Strážnice. This unusual experience can be still enhanced by a visit to wine shops, wine cellars, several castles and chateaux or educational paths. Forest, water and hunting

Game-keeping and hunting The most significant administrator of the hunting grounds is the Forestry Works – Lesní závod Židlochovice. The hunting guests have the opportunity to hunt hoofed game – fallow deer, moufflons, red deer, roe deer and wild boar – in the game reserves and on the free hunting grounds. The breeding and hunting of pheasants has an almost three hundred year old tradition in the Židlochovice area; traditional hunts in the historical pheasantries in a day reach 500 – 1,500 pieces of pheasant game. All hunting guests or groups have an interpreter and hunting guide at their disposal. The excised trophies are prepared for assessment and passing over to the guests within 24 hours. The guests can stay in the hunting lodges of the Forestry Works, or directly in the Židlochovice chateau. It offers six single and thirteen double bedrooms, as well as seven suites for the more demanding clients. For the pleasant stay of the guests available is a hunting dining room, a pink lounge and a main social hall, as well as the chateau Art gallery, exhibition of the contemporary signifi cant game trophies and a modern conference centre with a capacity of 100 persons. The Forestry Works – Lesní závod Židlochovice manages the game reserves Soutok (4600 ha), Moravský Krumlov (2600 ha), Bulhary (1250 ha), Klentnice (560 ha) and Termanec (120 ha).

Židlochovice Chateau The Židlochovice state chateau belongs among the best preserved hunting chateaux in Europe and together with the historical pheasantries and the deer game reserves it creates a unique hunting complex, following the hundred year old hunting tradition of this region. The former water keep from the 13th century underwent several reconstructions and was turned into a representative noble residence. The Baroque alterations of the chateau were performed by Duke Sintzendorff (1696–1743), who also had a signifi cant influence on the hunting development of the Židlochovice estates. The Habsburg Archduke Fridrich, who owned the chateau between 1895–1918, mainly influenced the present appearance of the Classicist hunting chateau. In this period in Židlochovice the grandiose hunts for small game were organised and the Archduke with his family brought to the chateau trophies of game, hunted down on the hunting grounds of the entire Austria-Hungary. In 1918 the Židlochovice chateau was transferred to the ownership of the Czechoslovakian Republic and it also became a popular summer residence of the first Czechoslovakian president T. G. Masaryk.

International folklore festival Strážnice

Folklore The well of folklore tradition in The Southern Moravia is really deep and appears to be bottomless. The roads are lined with many Holy Crosses, chapels, Way Side Columns and sculptures of saints, the nostalgia of the old times breathes from the brightly coloured ornaments protruding from the white rendering on the walls of old dwellings. Visitors to this countryside are of course attracted by the colourful airy folk costumes, ancient customs and forgotten trades, not forgetting characteristic dialects, tender lyric and brisk rhythmical folk songs, melodies of dulcimer musical ensembles and dances. In various places in the region held every year are various folklore celebrations and the imaginary gates of the villages and towns during the festive days are wide open to welcome hundreds and thousands of visitors.

Every year at the end of June the town of Strážnice comes to life by the magic of folk songs, dancing and folk costumes, customs and other aspects of traditional folk culture. This oldest and most significant folklore festival in the Czech Republic tries to rescue and introduce traditions of folk culture not only from Bohemia and Moravia, but also of other nations and ethnic minorities. Folklore ensembles from the Czech Republic and abroad, and even the representatives of the ethnic minorities meet here every year. Cultural treasures and living customs

Brno – the city of culture, festivals and classical music The variety of culture, which Brno offers, is at least as diverse as the entire Southern Moravia. You can start for example with a walk around local historical squares, busy city streets and courtyards of old palaces. Just these places during summer turn into unusual stages, where in front of the eyes of local and foreign tourists the old and contemporary art comes to life. There certainly was a good reason why this city became the home and inspiration source for many artists, scientists and composers. Brno really has a lot to offer – museums and galleries, theatres, cinemas, multi-movie theatres, concerts, libraries, music clubs and social multipurpose halls, literary coffee shops and tea rooms, various clubs for all age groups, markets, folk celebrations and festivals all year round – this is Brno, sacred to Muses.

Brno – the City in the Centre of Europe Ten days of entertainment, more than two hundred events of all kinds and hundreds of thousands of visitors – this is a brief statistic of the more and more popular festival. The programmes are concentrated mainly in the centre of the city, at the Brno dam, the complex of the Brno trade fair and exhibition centre and the castles of Špilberk and Veveří. What can you see and hear during those days? Here is just a random selection of the colourful range offering the most enticing possibilities, for example the regular fireworks competition show Ignis Brunensis, traditional meeting of hot-air balloonists, rides in historical trams and buses, open-air concerts and theatre performances, historical fairs, car races, folk castle celebrations… All in all if you want to come to Brno and have fun, the traditional festival at the turn of May and June is the best choice for you. Music festival CONCENTUS MORAVIAE Chateaux, churches, synagogue, as well as the chateau greenhouse or the entrance hall into the noble Crypt make the premises, where another significant Moravian festival, Concentus Moraviae, takes place, being the largest festival of old music in the Czech Republic. Every year during three weeks at the beginning of summer in fourteen basic Moravian towns in the environs of Brno and two additional towns, often at unique historical places, you can hear classical music in its best interpretation. One concert is always held in the Austrian bordering area. The interesting structure of the festival asks for a more demanding audience, therefore the concept of the programme of Concentus Moraviae is exceptionally worked out, quality and it always brings something new. The festival had a very successful “French” annual and a not any less successful “Slavonic” concept, the latest innovations were jazz and klezmer – music of Jewish composers. The festival Concentus Moraviae, focused especially on the young, but already top musicians, attracts tens of artists from all over the world including the biggest stars of the new generation. International Centre of Slavonic Music – Mezinárodní centrum slovanské hudby Brno, o.p.s. Easter Festival of Sacred Music The biggest project of its kind in the Czech Republic, a series of six sacred music concerts between Palm and White Sundays, is the yearly crown of significant Christian celebrations in The Southern Moravia. Since 1997 the festival has been held in the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Brno at Petrov under the authority of the Bishop of Brno. ARS/KONCERT s.r.o.

International music festival Moravian Autumn The biggest celebration of classical music in Moravia commemorating significant anniversaries of famous composers and at the same time reflecting significant contemporary music trends. Every year it involves circa thirty symphonic and chamber concerts, a number of instrumental and vocal recitals, opera and ballet performances as well as various new kinds of stage performances. Every year during three autumn weeks apart from music of the Czech composers premiered are works of many significant international authors. The traditional stage of the symphonic concerts and opera performances usually is in the Janáček Theatre, the smaller events are mainly held in the Besední House, the seat of the State Philharmonic Orchestra Brno. Included in the colourful mosaic of concert evenings is the Colloquium of Musicology, which reflects on the festival theme in the discussions. Since 1996 the International competition of organ interprets has been included among the events. ARS/KONCERT s.r.o.

Exposition of New Music The festival is a special occasion for those who like to explore something new and interesting in music. New music oversteps the classic conventions in all aspects. Concerts are mostly held at very unusual places, or in the famous Brno music clubs, the programme introduces various trends of contemporary composition in quality international interpretation, music carries in itself a risk of the unknown and with its unpredictable diversity and array doesn’t have to suit every listener. However those, who are willing to open themselves and listen, can during the Exposition of New Music find what they have been looking for. ARS/KONCERT s.r.o. Brno city Zoo The Brno zoo, opened at the end of summer 1953 at Mniší Mountain in Brno – Bystrc, on the area of 24 ha they breed almost a thousand species of mainly exotic animals. Among the main attractions belong, without a doubt, new, very modern expositions. Under the peak of Mniší Mountain is for example a large Safari free range, common for zebras, gnu, giraffe and ostriches, which is a copy of subsahara savannah. The pavilion Tropical kingdom is home especially for the typical representatives of tropical fauna – crocodiles, turtles, snakes and lizards together with monkeys from the Amazonian tropical forest and cute suricate meerkats. The pavilion Tiger’s Rocks, full of rock faces, lakes and waterfalls, is divided into two ranges – for the Sumatra tigers and Ceylon leopards. Joining this pavilion is the building of the Service Centre, from the restaurant in this building, when sitting by the table, it is possible to observe the cats directly through the glass wall. The latest exposition opened at the end of summer 2003, is the range for wolfs and Canadian beavers, featuring a replica of an Indian log cabin with a totem pole. For children there is a large playground and also nearby children’s zoo, full of animals for patting and stroking. In the Brno zoo you can spend a whole day; just to see all the animals will take you a few hours, but because the individual expositions are freely scattered in the forest on the slopes and on a crest of the Mniší Mountain, you will be constantly surrounded by nature. For less fit visitors there are electro-cars, which will help them to climb up the main slope of the mountain, in the top part of the zoo you can go for a ride in a small train. Romance of the Wild West The western town Wild West Boskovice is an amusement nature park built in the complex of a former sand quarry, which very much resembles countryside scenes from adventure movies. Every year in the amphitheatre held are new performances from the Wild West times, in the Buffallo Bill Show Arena you can see the wild riding of riders, cattle and horses. Not missing is also a trapper village with a stylish restaurant Tavern and famous cemetery Boot Hill. On top of that you can listen to stories of the fur trappers, buy Indian nick-nacks or stay in the hunter’s log cabin. If you are eager for Indian romance, then you should get on your way to the Indian village, where you can sleep in a real Indian tee-pee. Awaiting you in the small town is a number of saloons with well-known country dancing, horse riding, artificial rain for long summer days and if you got a headache from all those attractions, you should certainly visit the Dr. Quinn office. By the way, western town doesn’t overlook children. Every day there are competitions, games, slides and monkey bars waiting for them. You certainly won’t get bored.

Hodonín Zoo Hodonín Zoo in the pleasant environment of the swamp forest breeds circa 450 animals of more than 150 species. Among the most significant expositions belongs Sea World, charming visitors by the unique beauty of the sea fauna and coral reefs, the pavilion of monkeys and the pavilion of exotic birds. Included in the complex is the children’s zoo with several kinds of animals “for patting”, accessible for children. In the box office you can also buy food for animals and you can freely offer it to the animals in the Children’s zoo, as well as to goats and horses in other free ranges. The tour through the zoo, which covers an area of 7,5 ha takes one to two hours, however with children you will probably spend a longer time here. Awaiting the small visitors is the children’s play area and newly built playground, during the season there are also other attractions – jumping castle, motorbikes, train and roundabouts. The zoo you can find on the south-western outskirts of the town, in the quarter of Bažantnice. Free parking is circa 200 metres from the main entrance. Vyškov ZOO-PARK The zoo specialises in breeding of original kinds and species of domestic and farm animals from all around the world. The most popular exposition is the Our Granny’s Yard, resembling an old farm yard, where you can pat and have a close look at various kinds of goats, sheep, pigs and poultry. For children the zoo-park has a whole range of attractions; besides see-saws and swings there are for example wooden sculptures of animals, used as monkey bars and forms. For fun of the small and the big there is also a small ceramic village, inhabited by small rodents – guinea-pigs and rabbits. The entrance to the complex covering an area of 8 ha is found in the south-eastern corner of the chateau garden, which you can enter through the chateau complex directly from the centre of the town of Vyškov.
