After graduating from The Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida, I began my career by designing for the private clubs of Miami and South Beach. Now, after more than 20 years in the Wedding & Event Planning industry, I reside in Atlanta, Georgia, where I have turned my passion into a successful business. My primary medium is Sheer Fabric. With this fabric, I can create ceiling and wall treatments, backdrops, entrance ways and much more, depending on your needs. Through your personal consultation and my talent for three-dimensional design, I am able to convert an ordinary space into a stunningly beautiful atmosphere. I will work directly with you and your Wedding Consultant to create the memorable and romantic setting that you deserve. Sheer Fabric allows me to transform simple wedding decorations from plain to elegant and sophisticated. With the use of Sheer Fabric, I can create entrance ways and dividing walls as well as wall and ceiling installations. These installations, combined with the appropriate lighting, can provide a beautiful wedding space. I can also create Sheer Fabric chuppahs, table backdrops, and table coverings.

Jahnavi and Bharat FLORIDA WEDDING // NADIA D. PHOTOGRAPHY + KIS CUBED EVENTS

Jahnavi and Bharat, the eldest on both sides of their families, it was bound to be no cost was spared as their families started to plan a BIG FAT INDIAN WEDDING where Gujurat met Punjab for 650 guest who would travel from all over the world to Clearwater/Tampa, Florida. Both Jahnavi & Bharat are not only fashionistas but have a true inner Bollywood sprit! So their vision for the weekend could not be short of that, which was a weekend of Modern Elegance and Bollywood Glamour with unique elements. Jahnavi’s parents are long time residence of Tampa are very involved in the Indian community, where they attend many events, so they wanted Tampa to see things at their event that were not seen before, so together Dr. Rajan & Mrs. Rekha Naik put their creative thinking hats on with the design maestros at Occasions by Shangri-La led by Smita Patel, Remmal Karamsadkar & Rena Popat to work on that true WOW Factor! “My parents and I had crazy ideas such as a tunnel entrance and a 3D cake during our reception. We all thought it was over the top and impossible; luckily, we found a décor team that made it possible. The décor team executed it without any hesitancy and beyond our expectations. They surprised us with new and unique which we saw at the time of each event– such as fresh flower wall murals at the Sangeet, Techie elements at our reception with moving 3D floor for the Welcome tunnel embellished with elegant mirrored backdrop as an Entrance. We worked with them to design a custom 3D cake showcase which was projected in high definition video mapping with music, this truly is a concept that we have only seen at Disney, and we wanted it to be at our event, said Jahnavi!” Along with the integration of Technology the Naik family wanted to show the traditions of Jahnavi’s Gujurati heritage and Bharat’s Punjabi pride. The family flew in a music group from Gujarat with the head singer of Indian Idol Garima Shidke, which guest enjoyed swaying their hips to the beats for Garba & raising their hands for Bhangra. “We wanted everyone to experience the variety and creativity of Indian cuisines and it’s infusions. There were multiple flavored Chaats, Pani Puri Stations, Paan ice cream, Indo-Mexican, Indo-Thai and many more varieties that made choosing what to eat so much fun for our guest. We didn’t want anyone to feel that they would leave hungry or that there was not going to be something they liked, we made sure to cater to everyone’s taste said Jahnavi.” According to Jahnavi, it took an army of vendors to bring their weekend to life. “We were blessed to find vendors who truly love their careers! They worked hard during the planning process, and executed beyond our expectations, and never complained of what time it was or of any request that came from our families the weekend of. Our wedding planner was Nirjary Desai of KIS (Cubed) Event, who was available anytime to discuss the wedding, and help our families understand and integrate 2 different traditions, but also created a master plan that was so detailed that it would be hard for anyone not to know what was going on that day including our families, which left no question unanswered. Nirjary had a large team including a glam squad of hair, make-up, henna stylist that helped me & only focused on me which was so nice to have my own personal stylist team that made sure I looked flawless all day & was camera ready! “Over all our wedding was just amazing and both of our families could not have asked for anything more perfect and spectacular. We had the best Décor Team, Planner, Photographer, Cinematography (who showed a Same Day Edit of the weekend, which was just WOW), and the DJ’s from DC’s Dynasty just kept all 650 guest dancing till the wee hours of the morning! A wedding, especially a Big Fat Indian Wedding, is a joyful time but a very stressful time. It is necessary to have a communicative, receptive and enthusiastic team of wedding planners, decorators, DJs, photographer, videographers, caterers, but also, it is important to have family involved in the planning especially for a professional couple like Bharat and I. I couldn’t have done this without my parents; They were the driving force with their creative ideas, and endless planning efforts, we can’t thank them enough for all their unconditional love and support of making our wishes come true.” southasianbridemagazine.com 85

Real Wedding

reema + kunal CALIFORNIA WEDDING // BRAJA MANDALA + EXQUISITE EVENTS From Exquisite Events We are very fortunate to have the clients’ trust to do repeat business with them. This particular client has four children and this was the third child’s wedding that we designed and planned. He is an absolute dream client and wanted to pull no stops for the celebration. The fact that he trusts us implicitly also made it an extremely joyful planning process. We had a total of four months to plan their high-scale wedding with seven hundred expected guests. There was one design meeting with the couple to understand their vision and style and a few subsequent meetings for the walk-through and vendor walk-through at the hotel. Since the groom was from Seattle, they arrived a few days before the wedding and had their own celebrations and events. We were fortunate to get both the ceremony and ballroom spaces the day before the event to do our install and set up. That was a huge help as this event had a lot of moving parts. By Friday night, our ceremony tent was all done with the exception of flowers and some minor tweaking and details. We woke up on January 24th to gusty winds that created a havoc in the tent. The winds were so strong that chandeliers were moving violently and at times the tent ceiling was coming down. Our initial design entailed bringing the outdoors to the indoors. The tent was going to be an open tent, but with the situation at hand, we decided to enclose the tent to provide comfort to the guests. The winds also posed a safety challenge with the rented helicopter that was to drop tons of rose petals at the start of our groom’s procession. With us (Nikki and Madiha), safety comes first, so we were in close contact with the company. We decided to wait until half an hour before to make that call. As luck would have it, the winds died down considerably to have a smooth baraat, petal drop, snacks on the waterfall lawn and then the transition to the ceremony, which went off without a hitch. The bride had a send-off in a doli which took the couple in the horse carriage to the front of the hotel for them to get ready for their grand reception. The Reception During the design meeting, our couple expressed the desire to have turquoise, which was the groom’s favorite color, and aubergine, which was the bride’s favorite color. The room was draped in eggplant with silver valances and featured a silver dance floor and chairs. We decided to do the flowers in jewel tones—therefore, deep purples, merlots and burgundy colors were used for centerpieces. All the square tables and the head table were dressed in Camilla Teal from Wildflower Linen. The stage was designed with mirrored and tufted panels and had a regal charm about them. The lighting was done in very soft pink and the ambiance was magical. The ballroom doors were opened amidst all the “Oooohs” and “Aaaahs.” Ribbon dancers and LED dancers performed elegant dance movements on the dance floor as the guests took their seats. The Grand Entrance featured dhol players and all eyes were on the couple as they went to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. Bhangra dancers were hired to open the dance floor and the energy in the room was electrifying. Needless to say, our couple was over the moon with the entire event and we have not stopped receiving touching and lovely thank you notes to this day. We are excitedly looking forward to doing something beautiful for the last daughter and when the time comes we will be ready. southasianbridemagazine.com 91

BINDIYA + JAY GEORGIA WEDDING // R.A.G ARTISTRY + KIS CUBED EVENTS Jay and I have known each other forever! We actually met through a mutual friend after college. Initially we didn't start dating, until a year later. Our relationship started out with friendship, which was really important because we had a very hard & long courtship. Officially we started dating when I left to go on a 5 week trip overseas. as I wanted one last vacation before starting medical school in Antigua. We would see each other every month while I was in the Caribbean, along with during my rotations and residency. The two of us never really lived in the same city until we got married! Our courtship and dating period was about 8 years before Jay proposed on Jan 12, 2014 ( which coincidentally was the day after my 31st birthday!) at Atlantic Station located in the heard of the city. My beloved surprised me by having our sweet friendor (friend/vendor) Rachael from R.A.G Artistry capture the proposal, and shortly after my best friends show up to celebrate with us!!! Jay had spent so much time thinking this out that he didn’t miss a detail to where he even let my parents be a part of the proposal, and soon after we celebrated with our friends, siblings and parents! It truly was perfect and so thoughtful, I could not have asked for anything more. Like most couples we wanted to enjoy the process of being engaged since finally I was working and living in Atlanta, and Jay was in the same city. We were engaged for 10 months before we started planning our wedding, which was a 5-month long process from the time we booked our venue till the big day. Every night we had a different theme for each event. The week of events started on Wednesday night with our Mendhi night for our immediate family held at the B-Loft owned by Eliana Baucicault. This beautiful industrial-style venue was also perfect for our Casino Themed Welcome Party on Thursday evening. Followed by the remaining festivities being staged at the gorgeous Grand Hyatt Buckhead which started Friday morning with our Saatak and later that evening a colorful Sangeet, which was, lively, fun and unique filled with amazing performances from An Ka Fo an African Dancing group which was to signify my family’s background of being raised and living in Africa, along with the Emory University Karma Bangra team Jay loves to support and have truly set the hype for the evening and got all of our guest more excited for the next day’s Wedding & Reception festivities to take place. The wedding was truly flawless with a floating like feel Mandap, a circular seating so all guest got a few of us and Jay arriving in a Maserati, to the Reception being chic, clean, and stylish with Aerial Champagne performers and Fire Dancers from the Element Acrobatic Performers who entertained our guest from the time the doors open, to a unique entrance for Jay & I with a kabuki drop and an extravagant display if indoor pyrotechnics! We truly were on cloud 9 to hear the crowd and our guest get so pumped up!!! We could not have done this without the help of our wedding planner/industry friend Nirjary Desai from KIS (Cubed) Events and her team. Both Jay & I were very blessed and fortunate to have had the best vendors in the industry who also happen to be our friends and now more so then friends our family, since Jay spends so much time with everyone on the weekends working. The beauty of our wedding was that Jay & I fully trusted everyone completely who not only did their job, but went above and beyond to deliver nothing short of a perfect weekend to us. Our events truly were carried out effortlessly, and all our friendors really put their heart and soul into our wedding from our amazing wedding pictures taken by Rachael Gliebe of RAG Artistry, to Paul & Elaine Larsen of Walk on Water Productions with our fairy tale wedding video , and last but not least the lovely Ragini Patel of Weddings InStyle with our gorgeous custom floral mandap, kabooki drop, floral, and beautiful decor! It was hard for Jay who also owns Indaglow Productions, because he was not only a vendor but also a groom. Our families can't thank Jay and his team for the countless hours of work they put before and during the wedding festivities. While, I like any bride was getting dolled up for my events, my husband was ensuring all details of our wedding were flawless from his exclusive LED casino tables, couture furniture to our colorful custom dance floors and bars and of course all the beautiful lighting & production that went into adorning the décor and setting the mood for each event flawlessly. All I can say is that without the people involved the amazing weekend would not have been possibly, but more so my wedding was not only everything Jay & I envisioned and imagined but 100 times better! southasianbridemagazine.com 97

Nishant + Ranju WASHINGTON DC WEDDING // KEITH CEPHUS PHOTOGRAPHY + WORKING BRIDES Nishant and Ranju met in September 2005 when they were both young college students at the University of Maryland (go Terps!). Nishant was a junior and Ranju was just starting her freshman year. From the moment they started dating, Nishant has been full of surprises. From birthdays and anniversaries to the most magical proposal in the middle of the University of Maryland, Nishant has a way of keeping Ranju guessing every “step” of the way. Lots of “steps” and 8 (yes, 8) years later, Nishant popped the question. He enlisted his friends and their families to pull off the most romantic proposal on the middle of campus where Nishant and Ranju first met. Nishant decided he would light up the busiest library on campus in hundreds of lights, equipped with Ranju’s favorite songs playing from the roof to surprise his soon to be fiancé. Of course, Ranju said yes and then the fun part started…wedding planning! The easiest part for the couple was picking a venue. Years prior to getting engaged, the couple had attended a wedding of a friend and as soon as Ranju walked in, she told Nishant “one day I’m going to get married here.” Laughing it off as a joke, neither of them thought about it again for many years. Now that the time had come, Ranju didn’t waste any time tacking down her dream venue at Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Once the venue was taken care of, the couple decided photography and videography were the next big tasks, choosing Keith Cephus Photography and East West Videography to capture their special weekend. Photo and video were very important to them so they went with the best. Being the epitome of a girly girl, Ranju then spent months and months figuring out the details of her décor with Priti Verma at L’Ambiance Décor. Ranju knew she wanted a simple traditional theme for her wedding ceremony, being that the venue in itself is so ornate, but she wanted something ultra modern, chic and romantic for the reception. She decided on blush pinks and white with hints of gold, all topped off with a custom white light up dance floor from A Starlit Experience. Once all those details were set, the couple knew they needed to ensure that all of their guests were taken care of. This was actually one of the most difficult tasks for the couple because they knew their loved ones would remember 1) how much they danced and 2) how well they ate! They set out to find the best caterer and DJ in the Washington, D.C. area. They decided on Bollywood Bistro because of their expertise in incorporating modern, trendy details into traditional Indian cuisine. They also used Windows Catering to provide all other necessities, like lounge furniture and LED lit up bars. They decided on DC Dynasty for their DJ’ing and lighting services because they knew they’d be able to get everyone on the dance floor! Once all of these big things were settled, Ranju hopped on a plane to Delhi to get all of her wedding trousseau! The wedding day went off without a hitch (thanks to their wedding coordinator, Working Brides) with just a quick thunderstorm for good luck! As the ceremony ended and guests started pouring into the cocktail hour and rooftop terrace, the night turned into a magical celebration of the couple’s love, filled with dance performances, fantastic family speeches, and a ton of laughs from a take on a “Comedy-Central Roast” compiled about the couple by their closest friends. As the couple has now “officially” started their lives together, they’ve just finished construction on their new home in Fulton, MD and moved this August. They’ve been enjoying getting settled in and Ranju has even compared wedding planning to decorating their new home- the options are endless and the smallest details make the biggest difference! In their free time, the couple enjoys spending time with their families and watching the Redskins play on Sundays during football season!

SARAH + PRANAV NEW JERSEY WEDDING // PHOTOSMADEEZ + KM EVENTS MGMT. Pranav and I met in 2014 on an online dating site. We hit it off immediately and quickly discovered how much we had in common. In fact, our families had known each other for quite some time and my dad had tried to set us up years ago! Being with each other felt so right and we got engaged a few months after meeting. We immediately jumpstarted the wedding planning process. We toured a lot of different venues in northern and central New Jersey and finally decided on The Venetian in Garfield, NJ. The journey to our wedding day was so amazing! I wanted the day to be unique and special. I envisioned a romantic, candle-lit setting with shades of blush pink, ivory, and hints of gold and Design House DÊcor was able to execute our ideas perfectly. The asymmetrical floral mandap was beautifully created and something we had never seen before. Our favorite part was when Pranav and I got to take a look at our reception and stage decor before the night started. It was such an intimate moment filled with excitement and nervousness. It finally began to sink in that we were husband and wife! Guests enjoyed scrumptious appetizers, signature cocktails, and a delicious buffet that had many varieties of food. DJ USA kept the crowd lively and entertained all night—it was a non-stop celebration! We wanted to do something really special for our guests and decided on a spectacular Viennese Dessert Hour show that had over 250 kinds of desert. Everyone still raves about it today! We selected the best vendors in the wedding industry and were so impressed and satisfied with the professionalism and service on our special day. As the night finally came to a close, we were able to reflect on how amazing the journey to our wedding day was. We were overwhelmed by the love in the room and could feel how happy everyone was. Pranav and I are so thankful for everyone who helped us get to where we are today. Being surrounded by loving friends and family as you embark on a new chapter in your life is so magical!

Arpeeta + Arpan CALIFORNIA WEDDING // DUKE PHOTOGRAPHY + DAVID TUTERA The love story started in Jr. High when Arpan asked Arpeeta out to the school dance. Ever since that day the two have been inseparable. Fast forward 10+ years and the two were about to embrace on the next chapter of their lives. Arpan and Arpeeta were so excited for their traditional multiple day Indian wedding in San Francisco and most importantly they couldn’t wait to spent it with all their family and friends from all over the world. Arpeeta wore a gorgeous Manish Malholtra lengha, when Arpan saw her for the first time on their wedding day all he could say was “Wow” with the biggest smile on his face. They had an emotional and traditional ceremony full of love. They danced the night away at their reception and couldn’t have asked for a better day. Arpeeta and Arpan jetted off on their month long honeymoon; they adventured off to Bora Bora, New Zealand, and Australia. And the perfect love story continued!
