This transition affects all children in all primary schools but still we are not fully prepared to offer enough support, guidance or necessary tools to help them move safely, smoothly and confidently. Unfortunately, by the time your child has moved, it is often too late because the anxiety has already taken its toll. Remarkable Me have tried and tested their service for over 5 years in primary schools and have been able to ‘fine tune’ the perfect 7week, after school programme that offers the right amount of support, guidance and wellbeing education to children before they move to secondary school. Children are then in a stronger position to make healthier decisions about friendship groups, are more resilient when exposed to new and challenging situations and their general mental and emotional wellbeing is much stronger. Symptoms of stress and anxiety can cause long term cognitive damage to a child’s brain which is not yet fully developed. Remarkable Me is on a mission to get their programme into all primary schools in the country by 2023 and give these young lives a fighting chance to succeed. For more information about getting the Remarkable Me programme in your school & being ‘A Mentally Healthy School’ or becoming a Remarkable Me Facilitator and making a real difference to children’s lives visit www.remarkableme.uk, wellbeing experts since 2007.

Family Theatre

Moscow City Ballet was formed in 1988 by the late distinguished Russian choreographer, Victor SmirnovGolovanov, a highly acclaimed ex-soloist of the Bolshoi Ballet. Smirnov-Golovanov was committed to bringing his heritage of classical ballet in the Moscow style to audiences all over the world. Having first toured the UK in the early 1990s, the company continues to delight their thousands of fans in Great Britain and Ireland by visiting these shores each winter, including an annual date at Dartford’s Orchard Theatre. A Moscow City Ballet audience enjoys the talent of a company of over 75 people. The company’s distinctive style endures both in production and rehearsal, and is due to the dedication of Smirnov-Golovanov’s widow, Ludmila Nerubashenko, who has been leading the company for several years. She is keen to maintain the company’s ethos. A performance of Russian classical ballet provides a theatrical dancing experience combining artistry, technique, narrative and live music. The costumes and sets are beautiful, colourful, and a feast for the eye, while the sublime performances are all underpinned by the dynamic vitality of a live orchestra. Moscow City Ballet will be bringing The Sleeping Beauty to the Orchard Theatre from 6 to 8 February. To book your tickets, please visit www.orchardtheatre.co.uk.

International Film Success for Showtime Student
Showtimer Archie Yates, in our picture, aged 10, stars as Yorkie in the amazing new movie JoJo Rabbit. Between homework and spelling tests, Archie has been appearing on the red carpet at the film’s premiers, most recently in London and Toronto. He shares the limelight with Hollywood superstars, Scarlett Johansson and Rebel Wilson. Archie has been a Showtimer since an early age and meets his Showtime friends each weekend where they learn new skills beyond the school curriculum. Showtime teachers are carefully selected to work with each student to develop their special talents. Every child achieves at Showtime and the results are always amazing. It’s no big secret that involving your children in the performing arts does so much more than improving their singing, dancing and acting. Often Mums and Dads see their children become more confident in school, their physical ability improves and there is a boost in their social skills with a new network of friends. Showtime is great fun and carefully selected teachers work hard to find the special skills within every child. If you would like to be part of Showtime then go along and try them out. Just visit www.showtime.org.uk to arrange a session. Showtime performing arts classes take place on Saturdays and Sundays, morning and afternoons, in Strood, Malling, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Oxted. Trainers, comfy clothes, a snack and a smile are all you need!

In 1979, Helen O’Grady, a trained teacher and actress, commenced drama classes. Her aims were to provide a self-development programme for children which would encourage enthusiasm, energy and a positive approach to life. The classes would build ongoing confidence and self-esteem and develop skills in verbal communication as well as encouraging effective social interaction skills. Forty years later, the international Helen O’Grady Drama Academy is still delivering her vision around the globe. Take your child along to a free trial class to see how the programme works. Medieval inspired Christmas returns to Red House in Bexleyheath this year from 8 November to 15 December, but this year it’s with a literature twist. At Reading Red House, you can discover and listen to the medieval stories and tales that inspired the house and the artwork that adorns its walls. Keep a look out - you might find some literature themed decorations along the way as well. As if all this wasn’t enough, Red House has some great Christmas and wintery events to keep you busy. Olde Father Christmas, in his traditional green suit, will be visiting for story time and there will be a gift for every child from 30 November to 1 December. In addition, Cancionero will be singing carols in medieval dress on 7 December with an evening concert and an earlier family-friendly one too. There’s plenty of Christmas Spirit at Red House this year. For more information, please visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/red-house.
