South Outdoor Festival South Outdoor Festival is a celebration of everything that can be enjoyed outdoor. It celebrates sports, culture, tradition, music, nature and culinary. It gathers most popular outdoor activities in 4-5 day event and it take place in different locations of Southern Coastal Region of Albania every year. The festival invites participants from all over the country and the whole Europe to join, compete and have fun, spread the joy and experience unique beauty of nature, food, culture, tradition of south Albania.

The locations that we select for our event are characterized by an extraordinary geological diversity, a blend of sea, mountains and amazing natural resources, as well as unique villages, cultural heritage, tradition and delicious cuisine that makes it ideal for all sorts of outdoor activities and a perfect tourism destination.

An amazing array of musical talent, with acts and staging far better than most free festivals, will perform each day, and local beer, cider, and food vendors will be available for all the participants.

Thanks to our amazing sponsors and our hardworking as well as community volunteers, our festival continues to remain free to the thousands of attendees (over 3,000 in 2017 and more then 6,000 in 2018) each year!

WHO IS Behind it?

South Outdoor Festival is an initiative of GIZ Albania in the aim of the programme “Integrated Sustainable Development of the Southern Coastal Region� that is implemented as a mutual project in strong partnership together with leading companies from Albania, representatives from tourist agencies who have been working in tourism sector for years, specializing active tourism and receiving awards for developing new tourist products and events within their businesses. The project is realized in close collaboration with Ministry of Tourism and Environment, National Tourism Agency, Himara Municipality and is strongly supported from GIZ Albania.

South Outdoor Festival is not only about actively discovering the south and its regions. It also has to do with experiencing the exciting vibe of spring awakening, cultural treasures, strong tradition and charming villages of the south coast. After all, apart from the actual competitive events, the festival has a variety of fun activities such as kids games, workshops, parties, music, open-air cinema , not to mention the opportunity to taste the most delicious specialties of south cuisine.

South Outdoor Festival 2017 Pilur, Himare

29 April - 1 May

South Outdoor Festival 2017 was the first festival of his kind in Albania and it took place in Pilur, from 29 April to 1 of May 2017.

Although it was a very big and difficult undertaking as a new initiative, it resulted a success referring to the numbers and the sensation which was transmitted during the three days of the festival.

Up to 3.000 people joined and visited the festival.

27 - 29 April

The second edition of SOF took place in the south-coastal village of Vuno, unique for its stylish architecture, urbanization, history and tradition. This second edition was fantastic for all the participants and it resulted a success too, up to 6.000 people visited the festival.

3rd Edition South Outdoor Festival Where & When?!

Our next edition of South Outdoor Festival will be the weekend 26-29 April 2019.

South-coastal village of Borsh, will be the next stop for the festival of this year. Borsh is one of the biggest villages of South Albania and it is very known for it’s Olive groves fields, Olive oil production as well for it’s wide beach (7km long) created by the delta of the river.

The alluvial field of Borsh is another picturesque aspect, which is surrounded by a mountainous arch in the northeast and south, creating the image of an amphitheater. The visitor’s attention is drawn toward the Sopot castle situated high on a hill above the new village. This same hill extends on the northern and western side and the river of Borsh runs through the hill’s feet, flowing through the gorge that separates Borsh from Çorraj.

The location of this year festival will be in the middle of the Olive Groove fields, 200m from the coast, on the paved road leading to the sea.

The main Festival Hub in Borsh, will be the primary location for all the Music Festival events and a lot of other activities.

The magnificent waters of Porto-Palermo bay will host our Adventure Point, with water sport activities such as: Kayaking, Stand- Up Paddle, Diving, etc.

A lot of other activities, such as Hiking, MTB, Jeep Safari will take place all over the region.

As now a tradition, we will have a lot of activities in Gjipe Beach and a fantastic closing event on the magnificent bay of Porto Palermo.

The fun at South Outdoor Festival doesn’t end with the sunset. For this special occasion, we prepared 3 nights of great live music. The best Albanian and International singers, bands and DJ-s will play for you far into the night. This year will be very special because we will host some of the most famous international singers and DJ-s. Enjoy warm Mediterranean spring nights with your family and friends and feel the fantastic festival atmosphere, all that while sipping your cold beer or a glass of great Albanian wine.

SOUTH ALBANIA PRODUCTS

An important part of SOF will be the promotion of Albanian typical products from the Southern Albania.

With the support of GIZ Albania, a wide group of producers, different organizations and respective municipalities have joined efforts in improving marketing of local typical products, emphasizing the importance of products authenticity, which among others resulted in establishing a common brand, representing tourism and agro-products. “South Albania� is a brand inviting us to go back to our roots and values with the goal to promote Southern Albania typical products.

By visiting the exhibition space, participants will have the opportunity to taste and buy local products as well as meet different producers to learn more on the quality of the products and avail themselves toward business opportunities.

That’s why South Outdoor Festival partnered with the best restaurant in south (Veranda) who will, only for you, prepare the best south specialties at a special price, in collaboration with the local peoples, which will get involved in cooking their traditional plates just for you. You get to choose between various menus and decide what you want to eat, but one thing is for sure – you can’t go wrong!

Olive Oil

Tasting Tour We all talk about it…What is “real” Extra Virgin Olive Oil? A very important part of the overall South coast agricultural production is extra virgin olive oil. Thanks to the patient care to the trees and the groves, the result of the olive pressing is an unrepeatable olive oil that you can taste during the visit to a mill.

Our tour leader organizes extremely interesting two-hour olive oil tasting tours at local mill with a mini-seminar on extra virgin olive oils and comparison tests.

After seeing the process, participants will try different types of extra virgin olive oil of local production. This is a great occasion to learn how to taste exquisite olive oil and to understand the differences between a real top quality traditional local production and a massive industrial production.
