Later on, you continue on the coastal National Road up to Saranda.

From Durrës port, it is 2 hours by car as well.

You can easily get there from Greece as well through the borders of Kakavija and Qafë Botë.

Of course! The Southern Coastal Region is rich in history and legends. There are archeologic sites, historic monuments, ancient castles and a variety of other architectural attractions.

Hospitality is one of the main positive features in the South; Locals have opened up their houses to host travellers who want to experience these fantastic places.

You can easily find cheap guesthouses, but you can also set-up a tent if you’d prefer to.

Declared “Monument in Protection” by the Albanian State in 1948.

The national importance of Butrint's assets and cultural heritage was recognized and confirmed in the world by UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 1992, and was included in the List of Monuments at Risk in 1997. Registration of Butrint by UNESCO was based on cultural criteria as a unique and exceptional testimony of a cultural tradition and civilization that disappeared. Butrint was an ancient city in Epirus, during the 7th century. The main buildings, still accessible in Butrint are: the Temple of Aeskulapius, the Theatre with 1500 seats, bathrooms, basilica, the Lion gate, the Lake gate, the Venetian towers and the Fortress of Ali Pasha etc.

U shpall “Monument ne Mbrojtje” nga shteti shqiptar në 1948. Rëndësia kombëtare e aseteve dhe trashëgimisë kulturore të Butrinit janë njohur dhe konfirmuar nga UNESCO - Komiteti i Trashëgimisë Botërore në 1992, si dhe është përfshirë në Listën e Monumenteve në Risk në 1997. Njohja e Butrintit nga UNESCO bazohet në kriteret kulturore si një tregues i jashtëzakonshëm i traditës dhe civilizimit i cili tashmë ka humbur. Butrinti ishte një qytet antik në Epir, gjatë shekullit VII. Ndërtesat kryesore, të vizitueshme sot janë: Templulli i Aeskulapius, Teatri me rreth 1500 vende, banjot, bazilika, porta e Luanit, porta e Liqenit, Kulla Veneciane and fortesa e Ali Pashës.

Triport Castle / Kalaja e Triportit

The castle is located at the eastern bank of Vivari canal, in front of the ancient town of Butrinti. Its layout has a triangular shape and it is well preserved. The surveys have indicated five distinct periods of construction that have determined the current view; the first one goes from the end of XIII century till the end of XIV century. The last one dates back to the XIX century. The construction periods are easily distinguished one from the other due to the building techniques, materials used, functionality and other data. The Triport Castle is easily accessed by road or by passing the canal with the raft that makes the transport from one side of canal to the other.

Kalaja është e vendosur në brigjet lindore të Kanalit të Vivarit, përballë qytetit antik të Butrintit. Ka një formë / bazë trekëndore dhe është mjaft e mirëmbajtur. Sondazhet arkeologjike në kala kanë treguar pesë periudha të ndryshme ndërtimi; e para daton në fund të shekullit XIII deri ne fund të shekullit XIV. Ndërhyrja e fundit daton në shekullin XIX. Periudhat e ndërtimit dallohen lehtësisht nga njëra tjetra për shkak të teknikave e materialeve të ndërtimit, funksionalitetit, etj. Kalaja Triport aksesohet lehtësisht nga rruga automobilistike ose nga kanali nëpërmjet një mjeti lundrimi që bën transportin nga një breg në tjetrin.

Blue Eye/ Syri i Kaltër

The Blue Eye [Albanian: "Syri i kaltër"] is a water spring and natural phenomenon occurring near Muzinë, in Phoinike [Finiq] Municipality, on the national road Delvina- Gjirokastër. A popular tourist attraction, the clear blue water of the river bubbles forth from a stunning, more than fifty-metre-deep pool. Divers have descended to fifty metres, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is. This is the initial water source of Bistricë river , 25 km long, which ends in the Ionian Sea south of Sarandë. The spring source stands at an altitude of 152 m and has a discharge rate of 18400 l/s. The surrounding area (approx. 180 ha) is a nature reserve and is characterized by oak and sycamore trees.

Syri i kaltër është një burim dhe fenomen natyror që ndodhet pranë qafës së Muzinës, në Bashkinë e Finiqit, në rrugën kombëtare Delvinë- Gjirokastër. Është një atraksion turistik, uji i kaltër i burimit gurgullon mbi sipërfaqen e basenit prej më shumë se 50 m të thellë.

Zytësit kanë zbritur në thellësinë 50 m, por është ende e paqartë thellësia reale e kësaj grope karstike. Në këtë pikë buron lumi Bistrica, 25 km i gjatë, i cili derdhet në detin Jon, në jug të Sarandës. Burimi është në lartësinë 152 m dhe ka një kapacitet shkarkues prej rreth 18400 l/s. Zona përreth [rreth 180 ha] është rezervat natyror dhe karakterizohet nga pemët e dushqeve/ lisave dhe panjave.

The Mosque of Gjin Aleksi in Rusan / Xhamia e Gjin Aleksit në Rusan

This mosque is in the centre of Rusan village. This is a quite rare monument in its kind [1st category] because it is a mosque with a Christian name. The name is linked to two brothers Gjin & Aleks who built it. It was constructed towards the end of XVI and beginning of the XVII century above the ruins of a byzantine style monastery or church [that dates back to the XII century]. Spatially and architectonically speaking the main volume of the mosque comprises of the portico. In the current situation, there are some mural paintings/ frescos visible on the internal sides of the walls. The mosque was recently restored and it is easily accessed from the vehicular road.

Xhamia e Gjin Aleksit ndodhet në qëndër të fshatit Rusan. Është një monument [kategori 1-re] mjaft I veçantë sepse është një xhami më emër Kristian, në nder të 2 vellezërve Gjin e Aleks që hamendësohet ta kenë ndërtuar. Kjo xhami është ndërtuar në fund të shek. XVI – fillim i shek. XVII mbi themelet e një manastiri të stilit bizantin ose kishe të fund shekullit XII. Në aspektin hapsinor e arkitektonik, volumi kryesor i Xhamisë përbëhet nga Portiku, salla e lutjeve dhe minareja e gjitha e ndërtuar me tulla. Xhamia është restauruar dhe arrihet lehtësisht me rrugë automobilistike.

Porto Palermo & the Castle/ Porto Palermo & Kalaja e Ali Pashës

Beyond the Qeparo coastline, a small bay is situated approximately 2.5 kilometers to the north, called Porto Palermo. This harbor is an ancient place: it has been known since antiquity as the Harbor of Epirote. The tribe of Kaon called it “Panormou,”. On a small peninsula in Porto Palermo, sits the XIX cent fortification of Ali Pasha of Tepelenë, one of the heroes of Albanian resistance to foreign rule. Also in the entrance to Porto Palermo bay sits a Christian Orthodox church built

by Ali Pasha in the early nineteenth century. This site served as the place of the wedding ceremony of Ali Pasha with Vasiliki. In fact, some believe that Ali Pasha built the castle as a gift for his beautiful wife Vasiliki.

Amantia Archaeological Site / Parku Arkeologjik i Amantias

The ancient city of Amantia covers an archaeological area situated near the village of Ploça some 32 km away from Vlora town. In the territory of Amantia the traces of the following are found: Acropolis, a Necropolis of monumental tombs, surrounding walls, internal city Gates, ide city gates, a stadium build in the III century B.C. and a Temple presumed to have been built in the III cent. B.C. as well. The site is accessible by car through a two way asphalted road. The site is well-maintained; the visitors will find orienation and interpretation tables on site, a ticket booth, as well as site guides serving to visitors.

Përtej vijës bregdetare të Qeparoit, rreth 2,5 km në drejtim të veriut ndodhet një gji i vogël me emrin Porto Palermo. Ky liman njihet qysh në antikitet si limani i fisit epirot të Kaonëve, me emrin “Panormou”.

Mbi një gadishull të vogël në Porto Palermo qëndron fortesa e shekullit të 19-të e Ali Pashë Tepelenës. Pikërisht në pjesën hyrëse të tij, vizitori do të ndeshet edhe me një kishë të ritit kristian-ortodoks, e ndërtuar në fillim të shekullit të XIX-të, nga Ali Pasha. Ky objekt kulti shërbeu si vend i ceremonisë martesore të Pashait tepelenas me të bukurën Vasiliqi. Në fakt shumë besojnë se Ali Pasha e ndërtoi kalanë si dhuratë për gruan e tij të bukur!

Qyteti antik i Amantias përfshin një zonë arkeologjike që ndodhet pranë fshatit Plloçë rreth 32 km larg qytetit të Vlorës. Në territorin e Amantias ndodhen gjurmë të Akropolit, Nekropolit me varret monumentale, muret rrethuese apo mbështetëse dhe portave të brendshme të qytetit. Përveç tyre, janë gjetur edhe gjurmët e një stadiumi të ndërtuar në shekullin III p.e.s , si dhe një Tempull i cila hamendësohet të jetë ndërtuar po në shekullin III p.e.s dhe të jetë përdorur deri në shekullin I p.e.s. Ky qytet antik e sit arkeologjik mund të arrihet lehtësisht me makinë, me përfundimin e një rruge te re me dy kahe levizjeje. Eshtë një sit arkeologjik i mirëmbajtur, në të gjenden tabela orientuese e interpretative, një biletari si dhe ciceronë të cilët ofrojnë guida për vizitorët.

Ruins of Tragjas Traditional Village / Fshati Rrënojë i Tragjasit të Vjetër

To reach the village of “Tragjas i Vjetër”, s.o. should turn left on the national road Vlora – Saranda, 500 m before arriving to Orikum, pass through the new village of Tragjas, and suddenly Old Tragjas appears. It was constructed on both ridges of the hill in a horse–shoe shape. Though the village is destroyed, on the surface the ruins of the houses, the village centre and the ruins of a mosque are easily recognizable. The name of Old Tragjas is firstly mentioned in 1432, but theories suggest that the village is rich in history, dating back to ancient times. The village was completely burned by the German troops during the Second World War and it is currently preserved as a ruin.

Për të shkuar në fshatin Tragjas i Vjetër, duhet të kthehesh në të majtë të rrugës kombëtare Vlorë- Sarandë, rreth 500 metra pa mbërritur në qytezën e Orikumit. Pasi përshkon fshatin Tragjas i Ri papritmas shfaqet Tragjasi i Vjetër, vendosur në të dy shpatet e një kodër në formë patkoi. Edhe pse i fshati është i rrënuar, në sipërfaqe mund të dallohen rrënojat e banesave, qendra e fshatiti si dhe rrënojat e një xhamie. Në burimet dokumentare fshati Tragjas i Vjetër, haset për herë të parë në vitin 1432, por hamendësimet janë që fshati ka një histori të pasur, që nis prej lashtësisë. Fshati digjet nga forcat gjermane gjatë Luftës së Dytë Botërore, dhe aktualisht ruhet në gjendje rrënojë.
