Me:Sponsible It isn’t often I get the luxury of sitting quietly and reflecting. I am a natural whirling dervish of activity, but I also work in a fast-paced environment, raise two very active boys and spend my free time charging around trying to cram in every opportunity and make it count. And then I complain I am tired!! Each year I adopt a mantra. One year was ‘Keep it simple’ 2017 was ‘Love yourself first’. This year is ‘Me:Sponsible’ and I love it! We need to focus on all that we are and make time to be what we think we would like to become. Me:Sponsible – the act of being responsible to me for the benefit of my health, happiness and wellbeing. Even at primary school children are taught to be responsible for themselves. Not in the ‘make sure you have your hat, bag, lunch box’ way, but in the ‘you can’t be responsible for the actions of others’ way. As adults we become conflicted, we are always taught to think of others, do for others and then being Me:Sponsible becomes an afterthought. We put our dreams on hold, we don’t commit time to indulge ourselves, we judge ourselves on what we haven’t done or what we haven’t become. The whole thing needs reverse engineering. We need to focus on all that we are and make time to be what we think we would like to be. In 2018 I am going to be Me:Sponsible. I am going to make decisions and allow time which benefits my health, happiness and wellbeing. I hope you take a moment to consider what being Me:Sponsible looks like for you. The best example you can set for anyone is to be happy in your skin, not be afraid to challenge yourself and recognise that the only failure is never trying. Best wishes Sarah Watterson CEO 2

Chat with our Roving BDM, Julie Although the College has been established for over 33 years, there has never been an assigned Business Development person to do this role and promote all the fantastic work we do. A few months ago, I was lucky enough to have secured this role at the College OR was the College lucky enough to find me? I’ll leave that thought with you and move on. My role at the college is to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders, job networks, community groups, industry, students and employers to understand their training needs. This could be from looking to develop basic everyday skills to helping people enter the workforce, go to Uni or upskill for their existing role. From Vincentia to Narooma you will see me on the road in my Kia Rio (look for the green and purple!) discussing opportunities for our communities. It is often said that the College does it’s best work between brochure production – meaning that we do so much more than what is contained in these pages. Come and talk to me about the skills you think would make a difference in your life no matter how trivial you think it may be. We can almost always find a way to help and honestly believe that every day is a learning day. If you would like a visit to your workplace or have a chat to discuss training options give me a call at the college 02 4472 9202 or 0439 227 204. Also follow us on facebook to find out where Our Roving BDM has been this week. Cheers, Julz 6

Student Profile Thank you for a wonderful learning experience at South Coast Colleges. Being a Mum and wife with three young kids and a job, I was incredibly nervous starting study again at 43. The College staff and especially our outrageous trainer, Nikki, made the whole experience very worthwhile. The diverse class environment was supportive, friendly and engaging. A Certificate IV is challenging but the team at SCCC wanted us to succeed, they supported and guided us through our learning. Kylie Gilligan Nursing Pathways 2017
