Blowholes, beaches, waterfalls and a whole lot of action The district stretching from Minnamurra south to Gerroa and west to Jamberoo is filled with natural wonders, a rich history and lots of things to see and do. Kiama The picturesque coastal town of Kiama is famous for its lighthouse and blowholes. Fishing, exploring the rock pools are great free activities, as is swimming or surfing at Minnamurra, Bombo or Black Beach. Kiama’s tree-lined main street has many shops to explore and there are plenty of cafes to enjoy. Why not also explore Kiama’s many historical buildings? There are also several coastal walks available, providing access to key vantage points and significant sites along the coast. Jamberoo In the hills west of Kiama is the small rural village of Jamberoo. Many of the town’s original church, schoolhouse and local pub buildings remain, some dating back 150 years. Jamberoo is the gateway to Minnamurra Rainforest, the last
remnant of the rainforest that once covered most of the area. Amid these tranquil and quaint surrounds is where you will find NSW’s biggest water theme park - Jamberoo Action Park with its heart-stopping water thrill rides and action-packed family fun. Gerringong to Gerroa A picturesque holiday town of Gerringong is nestled between the ocean and flourishing farmlands. It boasts a variety of quality accommodation, shops, boutiques and cafes. One of the South Coast’s largest wineries, Crooked River Winery, overlooks the town. The magnificent views from its tasting rooms serve to enhance the quality of their awardwinning wines. Gerroa offers easy access to several national parks and fine beaches, including Seven Mile Beach, a grand sweep of sand with an extensive dune system. Seven Mile Beach was the launching site for pioneer aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s for his record breaking flight from Australia to New Zealand in 1928. Kiama Rotary presents largest antiques fair on the South Coast Kiama Rotary’s 24th Annual Antiques, Art and Retro Fair will be held from 17-18 January 2015 at the Kiama Leisure Centre, the largest of its kind to be held on the South Coast. Australia's most beautiful valley Kangaroo Valley, Australia's most beautiful valley, has a rich history. The original inhabitants, the ‘Wadi Wadi’ people, shared the valley with kangaroos and other native species. From the early part of the 19th century, cattlemen acquired extensive landholdings in the valley. They were followed by Irish settlers who, to the delight of their neighbours, brought with them their “moonshining” skills. Gradually more settlement took place and a patchwork of small farms spread out as far as the escarpments, mainly concentrating on dairying activities. Experience the Valley's history at Pioneer Museum The Pioneer Museum Park is a place of learning, relaxation and fun for the whole family. Most of the exhibits can be observed from close range, some items can even be touched, like the hand operated water pump or the wishing well. If you have kids they will love crossing the 72m swinging bridge which leads to two marked bushwalks on more than seven hectares of natural reserve. Summer entertainment for all at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre Following a well-earned Christmas/ New Year break, Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre staff reopen the doors in January with a summer program offering something for all ages. Starting with 'A Day at the Circus' on from 12 -13 January, a two-day children’s circus workshop giving 5-12 year-olds the chance to try juggling, hula hooping, acrobatics and more. Bundanon Big Draw - 18 Jan 'A drawing is simply a line going for a walk'. Paul Klee
Arthur Boyd put the Shoalhaven on the international map with his stunning depictions of the river and surrounding bush. His drawings and paintings have inspired generations of artists to visit the Bundanon properties and to create their own interpretations of its wonderful landscape. This year Bundanon Trust is launching the Bundanon Big Draw, following a world-wide trend to encourage the public to put everything else aside and draw for a day. Drawing is an everyday tool kit for communication. There are no physical rules and anyone can do it. Through the act of drawing we learn to look closely at our surroundings and to better understand the world around us. As a creative tool for developing skills of perception, thought, invention and action, drawing assists our brain to learn. Come along with all the family and help create the longest drawing in the Shoalhaven. We will provide all the materials for the big drawing and Bundanon’s artistic staff will be on hand to support your efforts. Or if you want to set up on your own and create an individual artwork, go right ahead! The spirit of the day is to encourage as many people as possible to take a risk and have a go. It is a great activity for all ages and abilities. The Bundanon Big Draw event will happen at Bundanon on Sunday 18 January 2015. The Homestead is open every Sunday, plus Saturdays throughout January. A watery wonderland Jervis Bay Measuring approximately 15 km from north to south and about 10km east to west, Jervis Bay is renowned for its crystal clear waters, soft white sandy beaches and sheltered beaches backed by natural bushland. The bay is home to thousands of species of marine life, making it a popular destination for scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking and whale, dolphin and bird watching. Jervis Bay’s most popular beach is Hyams Beach, renowned for
having the whitest sand in the world. Shared paths along parts of Jervis Bay’s foreshore offer opportunities for safe cycling and walking. Much of Jervis Bay’s southern shores are protected within Booderee National Park. Vehicle entry fees to the park may apply. Huskisson The township of Huskisson is the hub of Jervis Bay, being the location of key facilities including the Lady Denman Maritime Museum, many cafes, shops, restaurants, clubs, banks and accommodation.
