JUMP!
What do you see? By Connie Belton
SUMMER 2019
Happy summer! Have you ever been to a Pow Wow? A Pow Wow is a special event where people from American Indian tribes meet, dance, sing, and honor their cultures.
This painting shows a treat from a special day. Can you guess what that day is? What clues helped you figure it out? Make up a story about this day... 1 ) Who is there? 2) Imagine something outrageous happening (like cows dropping out of the sky or a giant trapdoor appearing!). 3) What happens next? If you would like to share your story with us, please email it to:
jumpmagforkids@gmail.com
(we might just put it in the next issue!)
Need help writing your story? Get some ideas in How To Write a Story by Simon Cheshire. Did you know that libraries can borrow books from other libraries? So, if yours doesn't have this book, a librarian might be able to find it and order it for you! Thanks to Our Sponsors! We went to a Pow Wow last year and saw people from the Occaneechi Band dancing in their beautiful traditional clothing. We saw handmade drums and other musical instruments and lots of arrowheads! If you live near Alamance County, you might want to go to the Pow Wow of
the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation on June 8 and 9, 2019, at 4902 Daily Store Road, Burlington NC 27217. Hope you have a great summer!
