Tell us about your brand and why it is uniquely different from any other product on the market?

Ericka: Golden Essence Co was created out of the journey of my infertility journey We understand that a lot of the beauty and wellness products in our homes may contain ingredients that are known endocrine disruptors and cause hormonal issues. Our brand is for women who want alternative skincare products that are not harmful to the health of themselves and their families We target women because they are the pillars of their households Their children will grow up doing the very things that were taught by their mothers and pass it down to their children and their children’s children. Our goal is to create generations of people who are aware of what goes ON their body just as much as they are aware what goes in their body

For those who don't know your backstory and why you started this line and business, can you tell our readers?

Ericka: It all started when I got married and wanted to have a child. After trying with no luck, I went to see a specialist and found out she had endometriosis and adenomyosis I realized that a lot of the beauty and wellness products I used contains ingredients that contained health factors, such as endocrine disruptors. This made me change beauty and household products and changed my lifestyle to match. With the help of my sister, we began to formulate products and set on a mission to not only change the lives of ourselves and our family, but for other women and families around us

Samantha: When Ericka came to me about her idea of creating natural skincare products, I had just graduated with my master’s in food science and I have a bachelor’s in environmental science. During my master’s program, I gained a lot of knowledge about the product development process I decided to join Ericka on this journey, we did additional research, and Golden Essence Co was birthed

You ladies are sisters, that has to be pretty exciting to share this opportunity. Have there been unique challenges or successes in working with your family?

Ericka: I really enjoy working with my sister She is my best friend and working together on something we are both passionate about is a dream come true One of the challenges I would say that we have is finding time to just be sisters. We spend a lot of time together working and building and it’s important to me that we carve out time for us to just hang out as sisters and not business partners The more our relationship grows, the more our business grows

Samantha: Working alongside my sister is definitely something I enjoy and love. Though we are far apart in age, we are still very close. As she stated, we are both passionate about the work we do for Golden Essence Co One of our challenges would be that even though we do work together, we have had completely different schedules. There are a lot of times where we can’t physically work together because of our work schedules. There have been days when I’m up late at night working while she’s sleeping and there are times when she’s up before the birds chirp, getting work done while I sleep in the morning It can be challenging not having conversations face to face daily, but we make still make time to text, call, email, and meet up so business gets done and we get to see each other’s beautiful faces.

You have had a fair amount of success since inception, what do you attribute to that success? Who do you attribute to that success? Is there anything that you would do differently?

Samantha: We attribute our success to God, our customers, and support system. We have received so much support and feedback from everyone. Whether it is something that they love or something they may not like we don’t take it personal It actually helps us to grow and improve our company and relationships We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for our customers and for those who have supported us from the beginning. So shoutout to the Golden Gang. We love y’all!

SOUTHERN CRESCENT WOMEN IN BUSINESS MAGAZINE
We attribute our success to God, We attribute our success to God, our customers, and support system. our customers, and support system.

Ericka: One thing we would do differently would be to not wait on perfection and just do it When we first started, there was a lot of things that were delayed because it wasn’t perfect, as far the jars, labels, boxes, logos, etc.

Where do you see your brand in the next 3 to 5 years? What is next for Golden Essence?

Samantha: In the next 3-5 years, we anticipate our company outgrowing the space that we are in now, growing our product line, employing people who are passionate about creating quality beauty products as much as we are, and continuing to educate people on the harmful chemicals in beauty products and the impact it can have on their health

Are you on the shelves of major retailers yet? Is there a plan to get there?

Ericka: We are currently only online and we are focused on building a strong direct to consumer brand. However, we have discussed the possibilities of having our brand in retail stores and we are putting things in place for when the opportunity presents itself for us to be in major retail stores. We would love to see out products in these spaces along with home and wellness spaces and luxury spaces, such as hotels and spas.

Where can we currently find your products and learn more about your brand?

Samantha: You can learn more about Golden Essence Co. on our Facebook and Instagram @goldenessenceco and on our website www goldenessenceco com

Thank you, Golden Essence Co. Team

Healthcare cost can put a financial strain on the budget. Long-term illness can happen unexpectedly. Do you have a plan to pay for long-term care? Long term care insurance is a product used to cover custodial care, long-term nursing care, assisted living or adult daycare According to Genworth Cost of Care Survey in 2019, annual cost for a home health aide was around $52,624. Long-term care affects everyone in the family. About 60% of family caregivers for adults must juggle their caregiving responsibilities while working either a full or part-time job. Medicare and health insurance don’t cover long term care unless medical care is needed. In cases where coverage is approved, it only lasts for 100 days Long-term care assistance could be required for years. While we look forward to aging healthy, wealthy, and wise, purchasing longterm care insurance now may ease the burden placed on of your family members in the future.

Many of us are in a precarious situation. While grinding to build an empire, we may be faced with caring for our parents while planning for our own medical needs. Thankfully, Medicare is a federal program available that covers the essential medical needs of the aging population. Throughout the rest of this article, I have highlighted how Medicare works and addressed eligibility issues that entrepreneurs need to consider for your future healthcare needs

There are a select group of people who are eligible for Medicare. People 65 and older, under 65 with certain disabilities and people of any age with End-Stage Renal Disease. At the age of 65, most citizens and eligible residents of the United States are eligible to enroll in Medicare. It is so important that not enrolling could cause you to pay more, in the form of a penalty, for the rest of your life. Depending on your employment status and who you work for, enrollment at exactly 65 may be delayed without penalty. The circumstances of this depends on your having “credible” insurance with your current employer. When you decide to retire, many state and county agencies will allow you to register for Medicare through their contracted Medicare provider. But for most Americans, you will go to Medicare gov In the Medicare world, the Medicare eligible client is known as a beneficiary, so I will also use this term. Every beneficiary can reach out to your local Social Security Administration to sign up for Part A and B. In some cases, you may be automatically enrolled in Part A. Medicare Part A is the hospital insurance. It covers your inpatient care in hospitals. Part A also covers critical access hospitals and skilled nursing facilities (not custodial or long-term care). It also covers hospice care and home health care if you meet certain conditions. There usually isn’t a monthly premium for Part A coverage if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years or 40 quarters while working (Side note for my entrepreneurs, make sure you are paying this if you haven’t had an employer for the time period mentioned).

Medicare Part B covers doctor’s visits, outpatient care, and other medical services not covered by Part A. Part B also covers many preventive services. For most people, you will pay a standard monthly premium which can change from year-to-year. In 2023, the amount actually went down from $170 to $164.90. However, if your modified adjusted gross income as reported on your IRS tax return from 2 years before is above a certain amount, you may pay more The premium can be automatically deducted from your social security benefits. Part B enrollment is not automatic. This is where some people are hit with what can be a lifetime penalty. If you don’t sign up for Part B when you’re first eligible, you’ll have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Part B. The late enrollment penalty takes the standard premium amount and increases it by 10% for each full 12-month period that you could have had Part B but didn’t.

SOUTHERN CRESCENT WOMEN IN BUSINESS MAGAZINE
"While we look forward to aging "While we look forward to aging healthy, wealthy, and wise, ... " healthy, and wise, ... "

Let’s say you are now enrolled in Medicare Part A and B. Is your healthcare coverage complete? Unfortunately, it isn’t, there are many gaps left in your healthcare coverage. That is where all the other letters in the alphabet comes in Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage which is provided by private companies. That is why the bill to cap the cost of insulin was so important. The federal government had to negotiate with private companies on the citizens’ behalf. If you decide not to join a Medicare drug plan when you’re first eligible, and you don’t have other “creditable prescription drug coverage,” or you don’t get Extra Help, you’ll likely to pay a late enrollment penalty here also.

You may have noticed that I skipped Medicare Part C. It is at this point that you will have two main options. You can stick with original Medicare and add a Medicare Supplement Insurance, known as a Medigap policy or sign up for Part C which in this case, you will leave parts of original Medicare and get a Medicare Advantage plan from a private company who will provide your Parts A and B coverage and many times offer additional benefits. These plans are usually HMOs or PPOs and it’s best to see doctors in-network. Most Medicare Advantage Plans cover prescription drugs in tiers. With both Medigap and Advantage plans, there are additional cost.

Can you believe this is a short overview? I hope I have given you some insight into the world of Medicare Everyone’s situation is unique, and you should seek advisement from someone who will look at your personal healthcare needs. Remember, managing your healthcare coverage can affect your wealth. Wealth is not something that one Wealth is not something that one individual is supposed to outlive, but it individual is supposed to outlive, but it is supposed to be something that is supposed to be something that continues generation into generation continues generation into generation

Women, Wealth and Entrepreneurship -- although the title of our Podcast, that is available on all major platforms including Spotify, Apple, Google, and more...this article is about more than that .

Women are the fastest growing group of enterpreneurs in the entire United States of America There was a shift that made the ability to earn more revenue outside of the traditional corporate position --- along with the flexibility that creating one's own schedule--which has made entrepreneurship more attractive to women of all ages

Minority women have traditionally been more educated than their minority counterparts and have statistically earmed more degrees than them, but are they earning as much revenue--even with shift to entrepreneurship?

In some cases, they are not earning more--- and that is based on several factors Entrepreneurship for some has been a necessity because of the job market and balancing home Additionally, there has been less entry to key areas of industry with significant earning potential --- such as the tech industry and gaining access to the prime government contracts that yield significant gains.

Additionally, due to the need to join the entrepreneurship circle, there was less time spent on building a firm foundation to understand key elements of entrepreneurship.

During the Pandemic, what revealed itself was a lack of foundational knowledge for entrepreneurs To truly gain access and to properly scale one's business, that foundation must be in place Systems must be in place and key staff must be in place.

Then and only then will true revenue and wealth will begin to amass Wealth is not something that one individual is supposed to outlive, but it is supposed to be something that continues generation into generation

According to the Brookings Institute, the wealth gap among racial lines is larger than it has been in years with "...median white American in their late fifties had $251,000 more wealth than the median Black Americans " Compile this along gender lines and "Families headed by women have just 55 cents in median wealth for every dollar of wealth owned by families headed by men" according to the Federal Reserve of St. Louis. What do we do about this?

We build sustainable and revenue generating businesses that provide not just a passion that one had as a child but real life solutions that create change and yield significant revenue. We learn the systems, we learn and sign up to be taught business basics and savviness and then---we implement. And we invest.

This is necessary, not just for us but for the generations that have yet to come While we may have a desire to fulfill every social, we must be strategic with our time, dollars, and resources.

For the past several years, SCWIB has hosted trainings, mentoring sessions and developed a cohort It is now time for elevation for those entrepreneurs and business women who attended, implemented and executed

Be sure to stay connected with us at www.scwibga.org. We implore you--don't get left behind!

If you have a business even if it is a home based or online business, a small business or a large business, here are a few ways business insurance can help you through a situation:

- A customer brings a lawsuit against you

- Your business has to shut down depriving you of income

- Your office is damaged by fire or vandalism.

- Your business documents or records are lost or destroyed from a covered loss

When we look at business insurance, there are two main kinds of coverage included:

Property: Protects your business buildings and other structures, business personal property, and equipment from covered accidental direct physical loss.

Liability: Protects yourself financially against costly claims and lawsuits covered under the policy.

One important aspect needed when you One important aspect needed when you start a business, which many do not know, start a business, which many do not know, or they don’t think it is necessary is or they don’t think it is necessary is business insurance. business insurance.

Starting a new business can be very exciting and very scary. One important aspect needed when you start a business, which many do not know, or they don’t think it is necessary is business insurance. So what is business insurance and how can it help your business? First having your business insured can open doors to opportunities that will require you to have insurance to do business with them.
