southern LIFE
Brittany "Grace" Shiver is the talented lady behind Grace's Goodness, an Atlanta "street food with a conscience" dining concept. After just a few months in business, Brittany already has a dedicated fan base and things are moving quickly for the upstart company. Brittany also serves as an educator for Lululemon, a yoga-inspired athletic company based in Vancouver, and is a member of Georgia Organics, Slow Food Atlanta, and the Southern Foodways Alliance. We're not sure we could stay sane with her schedule, but yoga keeps this busy localvore grounded.

i HOME & GARDEN
AT HOME in HUNTSVILLE text by NATALIE KILGORE
photos by ASHLEY VAUGHN
For years, Andy and Ashley Vaughn had their eyes set on a 100-year-old home owned by Andy’s father. Dating to 1903, the home was built for the manager of Dallas Mills, a nearby cotton mill in Huntsville, Alabama that burned down years ago. Andy’s father purchased the home in the 1970s for a mere $12,000 and rented it to tenants for years. It took a year of begging and pleading, but Andy’s father finally agreed to sell them the house after they expressed their interest in renovating it back to its original charm. The young couple was smitten with their new home, but knew a lot of work awaited them. The house had many design obstacles. It was converted into a duplex years before to attract renters, several floorboards were rotted, and the kitchen was infested with mold and mildew. Ready to tackle the challenges that the home presented, Andy and Ashley began the restoration of their old house, which they lovingly refer to as The Vertical House. 82 i Holiday 2010
