United Methodist Church Pastor Bill Landis, left, applies some elbow grease in order to polish his vintage 1951 Chevrolet pickup truck for Evie and Don Skidmore during the Classic & Custom Car Show held at the Brook Bandshell in Antioch on Thursday. In addition to the nearly 150 vintage vehicles on display and the sunny weather, the large crowd in attendance also enjoyed the final It’s Thursday concert of the year featuring the popular Blooze Brothers.
Many young mothers have a circle of friends, neighbors and acquaintances that pass hand-me-downs around. And often that same circle is there to offer other needed help. Lisa Fisher, of Antioch, is one such young mother who has widened her circle to include folks she doesn’t know. And she has drawn more than 200 others into that circle to offer help to other young moms and families in need. The grade school student

Fisher heard that the child’s home life was difficult and Fisher was moved to compassion so she worked out a plan with her friend, the teacher. “I decided to provide things to make this child’s life a little easier,” Fisher said, “so when I found useful things, I gave them to my friend who passed them on.” Useful things included clothing, toiletries and simple food items. This child and Fisher never met, the child never learned Fisher’s name and she was fine with that. A few years later when Fisher was told the family was

Adopt-a-Highway volunteers sought The Lake County Division of Transportation is accepting applications for enrollment in the Lake County Adopt-a-Highway program. Volunteers adopt a section of a county highway and commit to cleaning it twice a year. At this time, there are 23 sections of highway and two bike paths waiting for adoption. The county provides vol-
unteers with high-visibility safety vests, trash bags and safety information. To acknowledge the effort, a commemorative sign will be installed at the site of the clean-up. County officials said the program is a valuable learning experience for the volunteers who provide the service, while at the same time promoting civic responsibility and teamwork.
Enrollment is taking place through Aug. 28. Participants must be at least 10 years of age and anyone younger than 18 years of age must have adult supervision. For more information, visit the county division of transportation website at www.lakecountyil.gov/ Transportation/Roads/Pages/Adopt.aspx, or call (847) 377-7472.

Hi my name is Hailey, my summer vacation was a vacation I will not ever forget. I went to Virginia Beach, VA. To get there we took a airplane! It was my first time in a plane. It was fun and scary at the same time. We had a layover in Detroit, Michigan. We miss our flight by four minutes. So, we had to wait three hours until we could leave. Bad news only three people could go, but we had six people. So, one adult and two kids went on a plane at 12:45 p.m. and landed about 2:30. On the other hand me, my step grandma and cousin waited until 9:45 p.m. to get another plane. By the time we got on the plane we would have been in the airport for 14 HOURS!! I was ready to leave. After we landed it was around 11:25 p.m. We were staying at my aunts house, so she picked us up at the airport and we went to her house. The next morning we went swimming in the ocean. The waves were giant! Never ever drink ocean water. Why? Because you will get a bad stomach ache and the water taste really bad. almost everyday we went it rained. The 2nd to the last last day we went on a boat to go dolphin looking. I learned a lot about dolphins, like they don’t use their 100 teeth for eating. They rather would catch the fish then just swallow whole. The actually don’t have jaw muscles for chewing! After that we got ready to go home. We got to get good sleep for tomorrow! Our flight leaves at 12:45. We can’t be late for this one! From Virginia we went to Atlanta, Georgia. From there we went to Millwauke, Wisconsin. HOME at last!! After that we went to Egg Harbor, Door County. We went for my cousins wedding. We went fishing and swimming Friday. Satruday was the wedding, we were there around 12 or 12:15 and the wedding started at 2:30. We helped a lot! On Sunday we packed up and started to leave. I had a lot of fun on my vacation. I hope I can go on a plane again.

Survival mode Team photographer fights breast cancer, hopes to help others
Planning a future Barrett isn’t out of the woods, yet. She said she feels her cancer can return at any time, and she was hesitant to mention words like remission or survivor. “It’s not something I never have to worry about again,” she said. “I must be checked often.” Barrett said she is very close with her parents, who have been “very supportive of me.” She added it’s been hard on them, though, as they fear the loss of another child. Barrett’s older brother died at the age of 28 in the early 2000s. Barrett also has a younger sister. She truly believes her brother, grandparents and aunts and uncles were looking out for her, and she is thankful that treatment is over. Barrett is working on her third screenplay, and she has recently gotten work on the TV show “Chicago Fire” and the movie “Public Enemies,” which starred Johnny Depp and was filmed in Wisconsin. She has acted and worked as a stuntwoman for 10 years and is currently working out of Chicago when she’s able to find acting jobs. She most recently was hired for a TV commercial. She didn’t quit her day job,
as she calls Hewlett-Packard a “blessing in disguise.” Her dream job is acting. At Saturday’s football game, Barrett will be snapping away the action from the sideline. She hopes her experience helps other women to be their own biggest advocates. “If you feel any kind of lump whatsoever, get help,” she said. “I want to move on with my life and help women catch cancer early. If you’re blown off, get another opinion. If they blow you off, get another opinion. If you know something is wrong, something is wrong.”

Families are needed in the area to host foreign exchange students with Nacel Open Door this fall and the organization hasn’t seen the response this year like it has in the past. “This might be the first year we don’t have families for the students,” Nacel representative Carrie Martin said. “We have six students to place in southeastern Wisconsin, anywhere where there is a school that will accept a foreign exchange student.” Martin said the students “come with everything they need” and will pay for their schooling and have money for their personal needs while the host families only need to supply a “bed to sleep in and three meals a day.” “Usually their parents will set them up with an account they can withdraw from,” she said. “Host families also get 24-hour support from Nacel,” Martin continued. “I’m on call 24 hours a day, I’m there whenever they need

A chance meeting By September, three months after her seemingly clean mammogram, Barrett

Holly Barrett, who is battling breast cancer, is shown with her nieces just three months after being diagnosed.

Period of uncertainty Unemployed and insured, Barrett knew a mammogram wasn’t possible, and she tried to trust the diagnosis. But she couldn’t shake the fact that her body was breaking down. “He never even felt my lump in my breast,” Barrett said about the surgeon. “I was getting sharp, shooting pains five to 10 times per day. That was the tumor growing.” “I knew something was seriously wrong.” Barrett’s fears grew by September, when her thyroid gland began to fail. Since 1999, Barrett said she has had Hashimoto’s disease, where the immune system attacks the thyroid. She had taken medicine for years, remained active and attempted to eat right. And her thyroid levels had remained remarkably consistent. Suddenly, her levels began fluctuating drastically, and she’d have her medicine lowered every six weeks. “My immune system stopped attacking my thyroid and started attacking my cancer,” she said. “My hunch was correct. The change in my thyroid made me realize something’s wrong with my breast.” Barrett said many women have too much pride and will blow it off, thinking they’re fine.
took a job with Hewlett-Packard in southern Wisconsin. What happened four months later possibly saved her life. Barrett was sent down to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America to fix some office equipment. Still fighting physical pain and battling her pride to accept there may be something seriously wrong, Barrett asked around. Eventually, she had gained enough trust with someone to share her story. “Not a lot of women want to talk about their privates,” she said. “But I felt like someone up above was telling me to get this done.” So on Jan. 30 of this year, thanks to the informed advice, Barrett was back in a doctor’s office. This time, all it took was a physical exam and a doctor to actually touch her lump. “Without having the biopsy, I’m going to tell you you have breast cancer,” the doctor told Holly, who said she already knew. “The mass was so large,” Holly said. “It was insanely different from 2013. The radiologist actually rushed to the room to check the results when she heard about it. They said I already had breast cancer in 2013 at my first mammogram.” Barrett had both breasts removed and was required to take 33 doses of radiation over a seven-week period. “It’s devastation to your body,” said Holly of the intense treatment that affected her chest, from the bottom of her rib cage to her collarbone. “It literally kills the good and bad cells. My whole right side was fried.” In June, Barrett finished radiation. This week, she began physical therapy. “Not a good day today,” she posted on her Facebook wall late Tuesday night.

Imagine actually having cancer but your doctor insists you’re fine and all you need is a little less chocolate and caffeine. Holly Barrett unfortunately had to live that hell and wait more than a year before learning her now-enormous tumor had tripled in size and indeed was cancer. By January 2015, after a second mammogram revealed the 39-year-old had been stricken with ductal carcinoma in situ, Barrett had both breasts removed and began intense radiation that nearly caused her third-degree burns. The active, athletic actress and stuntwoman is still in a fight for her life, though radiation ended in June. “I was told I was fine,” she said Tuesday night via telephone. “But I had dense tissue and pain. I knew it was wrong.” “Five months later, I went to the doctor and said this is hurting me so bad, you need to just cut it out.” Barrett, who currently lives in Kenosha, is the team photographer for the Southern Lakes Blue Devils semi-pro football team, which hosted a cancer benefit game for her Aug. 1 in Burlington at Catholic Central High School. The Blue Devils won, 26-21, extending their win streak to six games. A crowd of around 100 people sported pink clothing, and a team spokesperson said the team’s pink “Fight Cancer” T-shirts sold out before the game ended. Barrett said she is hoping to raise awareness for breast cancer and emphasize that women need to swallow their pride and see a doctor if something is wrong. Unfortunately for Barrett, both a radiologist and surgeon couldn’t detect anything seri-
ous in June 2014, when Holly underwent her first mammogram. “The surgeon told me to cut back on coffee, cut back on caffeine and take some vitamin E,” Barrett explained. “And he wanted to do another mammogram for comparison sake.”

Woman hurt in boating incident
• Aquanuts
Local man charged with driving drunk A 24-year-old Illinois woman suffered serious injuries July 29 after she was struck by the propeller of a boat while tubing on Lake Elizabeth, according to Twin Lakes Police. Police responded at 5:15 p.m. to a report of a female who was injured. People inside the boat who had been towing the victim transported her to a residence on Anna Avenue in Twin Lakes. Officers and Twin Lakes Rescue personnel treated the woman from Freeport, Ill., who had serious cuts on her legs consistent with being
struck by a boat prop. According to witness statements, the victim and another man were being towed on a tube by a boat driven by Brian Nelson, 36, of Twin Lakes. The victim fell off the tube and as the others in the boat were attempting to get her back inside, she went under the boat and was struck by the propeller. They then called 911 and transported the victim to shore where they were met by police and rescue personnel. The victim was transported by Flight for Life helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Milwau-
kee. Police did not know her condition. Nelson was taken into police custody and has since been charged in Kenosha County Circuit Court with causing injury operating a motorboat while intoxicated. Nelson appeared in court July 31 and pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was ordered not to consume alcohol or controlled substances and released on $2,000 signature bond. The Twin Lakes Police Department, along with the Department of Natural Resources continue to investigate incident.
Salem to host child ID program The Town of Salem Public Safety Department and the Kenosha Moose Club will hold a free event titled “I Dent A KID. This program allows parents to have a CD of information made, that they will take home, with their child’s identifying information. This information could be handed to law enforcement in the future should a child
turn up missing. The CD holds a child’s basic identifiers including fingerprints and photos. This event will be held on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Salem Town Hall For further information regarding this event, contact David Shortess, Salem Public Safety Office at (262) 298-5622.

freedom at little cost to the participants. Just ask Bill Steinberg of Highland Park, Ill., who now plans his summer schedule around the annual event. “To be honest, I feel completely free, Steinberg, 21, said after circling Lake Mary aboard a water ski chair. “It felt totally wild. The ear-to-ear grin sported by Steinberg was perhaps exceeded only by the smile worn by his mother, Teri Steinberg, who watched her son’s ride from the towboat alongside Bill’s grandfather. “I wouldn’t be able to do this for him, Teri Steinberg said. “He looks forward to this. He took the day off from work and he totally loves his job. Bill Steinberg, who has autism, works in buildings and grounds for School District 109 and also works for the Highland Park Recreation Department. In addition to occasional water sports, Steinberg is training to run a 10-kilometer event under the tutelage of his grandfather. Teri Steinberg said the sense of confidence her son has gained at the annual Aquanuts outing contributes to the life success of the young man who recently earned his driver’s license.
mer. Richey said many of the participants are experiencing physical freedoms for the first time and “their families are continually thanking us. The connection with Dreams for Kids began years ago after Richey volunteered for the organization. After attending a three-day training session on adaptive aquatics Richey put together the initial event and it has grown exponentially since. Now she’s the one attending conferences hosted by the
Wisconsin Water Ski Federation and conducting the adaptive aquatic workshops. As gratifying as it is to see people with disabilities enjoy water sports, Richey said the event is just as beneficial for the Aquanuts who volunteer. “What’s great is it has changed the lives of the kids on the team, not just the participants, she said. “We’re purely volunteers. All of us do this on (behalf of) the Aquanuts. “It’s how we give back.
A favorite thing That type of effect is just what Richey envisioned when she conceived the event 15 years ago. “We serve all types of disabilities – from autism to other ED NADOLSKI Hi-Liter physical handicaps, she said. Organizer Sue Richey (standing, right) and Dave “We even did a Wounded WarLawless (center), of Dreams for Kids, watch while Aquarior event. “It’s so wonderful. It’s my nut volunteers prepare Bill Steinberg for a ride in a wafavorite thing to do every sum- ter ski chair.

Making the punishment fit the crime Salem considers ordinances to address petty offenses By Gail Peckler-Dziki CORRESPONDENT
The Salem Town Board will consider two new ordinances at its next regular meeting, scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. These were discussed at the July 20 committee of the
whole meeting and will likely b formally approved at the August meeting. A few months ago, Wilmot High School personnel contacted Pubic Safety Supervisor Dave Shortess with a request about a possible town theft ordinance.
“The town didn’t have one,” Shortess said. “And there was concern that sometimes the county fines were out of proportion with the crimes.” A fine of over $800 may seem a bit high for a student who made a foolish choice and took a $1.50 hamburger without paying. Shortess retired from a police department with a philosophy of community service po-

licing. He said there is a need for accountability but there should be room to help people grow. The municipal judge is a part of that process. Municipal judges are local and close to the residents. The judge often knows many residents and, by keeping things in the municipal court, the judge has the opportunity to encourage all, es-
pecially young people, on the right path while making sure they understand consequences to violating laws and ordinances. “All schools have a county deputy liaison,” Shortess said, “and the schools value that service.” “Having the theft ordinance,” he continued, “gives the deputy another choice to handle some of these issues.”
The town theft ordinance sets penalties for fines that range between $25 and $1,000, along with costs of prosecution, for each violation. Kenosha County Sheriff’s deputies can write a ticket for local ordinances. They do, however, work for the Kenosha County Sheriff, who could instruct them to write violations only for county codes, rather than local ordinances.

Mother with young children loses husband
Dear W.C., My husband died last year due to a heart defect we didn’t even know he had. He was riding his bicycle to the grocery store when it happened. I grieve everyday knowing I was the one who sent him to the store on that fateful day. I can’t believe he was taken from me while picking up some eggs and diapers. I have been looking for a job ever since my husband passed away. It is not easy finding a job when you have been a stay-at-home mom for the last six years. We never lived extravagantly but my husband earned enough when he was alive to allow me to stay home with the children. Childcare was so expensive we decided it would be best. Now that decision is making it impossible for me to support my children without him. Could you please help give me some direction on how we can get by for the future? Heartbroken widow and children

SAL DIMICELI Columnist
Dear readers, The unexpected and unplanned-for death of a spouse can cause a family to fall into poverty and desperation. Most families that live paycheck to paycheck do not even think about the possibility of losing their spouse much less have a financial plan in place. We always think we have years until we have to worry about our own death and what effect that would have on our children and spouse. This mother and children were completely unprepared for the sudden change in their lives. There was no life insurance, savings or death benefits from his job. The wife was able to receive survivor benefits but it was
not enough to cover their expenses. The utilities were about to be disconnected and the eviction was pending. The Time Is Now to Help and all of “You” were desperately needed to help this widow and young children. Only our caring and sharing could bring about the positive change they needed to survive. I paid an unplanned visit to the mother and two children. I wanted to see for myself how they were really living. I knew the mother would need to change how they were living in order to survive. Even if they were living frugally before the accident, I knew the mother would need to reduce her rent and utility costs to fit her new budget. I would check into all this at my home visit. The mother and children were presently living in a nice rental home. I noticed it was well kept on the outside as I walked to the front door. The walks were swept and there were no overgrown weeds or grass. From the
outside of the home you would never guess they were struggling in poverty. When I knocked on the front door, a young woman with a child in her arms answered it. The child hid her face shyly from me while I showed my identification and introduced myself. The mother said she recognized me from the newspaper. She invited me into her home. As I suspected there was not much furniture. Either they had never owned much or she had been selling their belongings to pay for expenses. When I asked about the empty rooms, the mother confirmed she had held several garage sales in the past month to help pay the bills. Other than that the home was clean and orderly. We went into the kitchen to talk quietly while the children were content to watch a children’s DVD on the small television as they cuddled on a blanket on the floor. I asked if they had any other television or cable television and she confirmed they did not. The mother said,

“The TV was the first thing I sold. And I had the cable disconnected months ago. They were what my husband enjoyed but I knew we could not afford such a luxury without him. We don’t even miss them.” I asked the mother if she was able to talk about her husband. She immediately got tears in her eyes so I regretted asking the question but I knew I had to ask these questions to find a solution to their present financial problems. I apologized for asking but the mother reassured me she needed to talk about him. The mother painfully recounted the fateful day her husband decided to save some gas and ride his bike for the few items they needed from the store. He had collapsed in the driveway upon his return and they never revived him. The wife told me he had been healthy, he never smoked or drank. The doctor told her he had a heart defect that caused a heart attack. The woman was crying hard now and her little girl ran over in concern for her mother. The sweet child asked, “Mommy, are you OK? Are you sad about Daddy again?” It was heartbreaking to watch the innocent child try to comfort her mother. After a few minutes and hugs of reassurance the mother told the child to return to her TV show. The mother said, “I try so hard to not cry in front of the kids but sometimes it just seems to overwhelm me. They have finally stopped asking when their Daddy is coming home and that broke my heart every time they asked.” After she spoke some more about the father’s heart attack and the days that followed I could see the mother was relieved to just get all this off her chest. I asked if she had anyone she could talk to about this or to help them financially. She confessed the only family they had were either deceased or alcoholics. She said, “They are not the kind of people I want around my children and I. My husband and I had distanced ourselves from our families years ago when we had our first child. We moved here from up north to get away from them. At my husband’s funeral they caused a scene that just confirmed I did not want any of them in my life now either.” I could respect that as I see many people we help in The Time Is Now to Help distance themselves from family and friends that are not the kind of influence they want in their lives. We began going through her bills she had kept wrapped in a rubber band in her kitchen drawer. After we sorted through them I had a better picture of her financial status. She was receiving a small widow’s benefit as her husband was a young man at the time of his death. Her present expenses were too high for the benefit she was receiving. She agreed that she needed to get out of the expensive rental house. Her lease on the house would expire in two months so I asked the woman if she minded if I called her landlord. The woman agreed and gave me his phone number. At first the landlord questioned who I was but once he heard I was calling
for The Time Is Now to Help he immediately changed his tone and complimented us on our work. I told him about the mother and children, and their struggle to keep up with the rent since the tragic death of the husband. The landlord said, “Is there anything I can do to help? I really don’t want to evict a widow with two children. That would be a terrible thing to do in their situation.” I was glad to hear he was a good person with a caring heart for his fellow creations. I asked if he would be willing to let the woman out of her lease early so she could find a rental she could fit into her budget. The landlord said he would be willing to and asked if she would consider moving into one of his other smaller rentals. He even offered to just transfer over the security deposit. I asked him for the details of two rentals he had almost move-in ready. He told me he had one tenant moving out in a week and another new rental he had recently purchased and had just fixed up. I negotiated the rent with the landlord to be one she could afford going forward, a very reasonable rent. He gave me the address and we set a time to meet at the rentals. After that phone call I could see some of the stress and worry leaving the mother. We had lifted some of her burden. We continued easing her burden by going over her utility bills. These we paid up to date to enable her to establish new utility accounts at her new rental. The mother told me she had given up her husband’s car because she could no longer make the payments. The remaining car was old but had a reasonable amount of miles on it, making it worth repairing to ensure they had a safe vehicle for their needs. The mother was again getting emotional and trying to control her tears as her children’s DVD ended. Both children seemed very in tune with her emotions and ran to their mother for hugs and reassurance again. This time the mother said, “Mommy is crying happy tears. Did you know you can cry happy tears?” The little girl asked, “What are happy tears Mommy?” The mother answered, “The kind of tears you cry when someone does something so nice for you, and you don’t know how to thank them.” The children looked confused but I knew what she was trying to share with them and all of us. We would be changing their life, helping them get on their feet, removing her stress and worry, allowing her time to find a job and care for her family on her own. We arranged to meet at the new rentals the following day so she could choose which would work best for her and the children. Both rentals were very nice and I could see the landlord could have easily charged much more for the rent on both houses. The mother and children chose the house they liked best together. The children were very excited to live somewhere new. Just as they were getting into their car the younger daughter asked, “Will Daddy be moving into this house too?” I saw the pain flood the mother’s eyes

We are at the lake and they are swimming – despite the gray clouds and looming weather, which threatens to dampen everything except their spirits. They seem oblivious to the oncoming onslaught, even though the air hangs heavy and dark, even though it is late afternoon – prime time for summer storms. I walk down to the beach. They are as unaware of me as they are of the overcast sky. I sit on the dock with my toes in the water watching them jump and dive. Splashing. Laughing. Dunking each other the way brothers do. The youngest looks up and sees me. “You don’t have to watch us,” he says. He is right. They are old enough to swim together without me being right there. The days of required constant supervision are gone. “I know,” I say. “I just

want to.” My son, familiar with my motherly weirdness, accepts my presence and goes on dunking. Sometimes it’s like that. Motherhood. Parenthood. We sit and watch them because we want to and we can. Because they are in the water and we are on the dock. They are on the court and we are on the bleachers. They are outside and we are at the window. They are on the field and we are in the stands. They are on stage and we are in the audience. They are sleeping in bed and we linger at their doorway Sometimes in quiet
moments of contemplation, when the world seems to stop and we are alone with our thoughts, we ponder who they are and the vulnerability they create in us. We reflect on a love so great we couldn’t have imagined it had we not experienced it firsthand. Such deep thoughts can make us teary and emotional, and when this happens we try not to let them see us in such a state because they wouldn’t understand. Think us silly, even. At least that’s what we believe. Thunder rustles in the distance. The storm is growing closer. “Thunder,” I say. “Time to get out.” After years growing up at the lake they understand that lightning and swimming do not mix. Without any of the usual arguments, they head toward me and I ready the towels to loop

over their shoulders and shelter them from the wind. The oncoming weather is making me feel protective. It’s hard to explain the surges of motherhood that can roll in out of nowhere, much like a summer storm. They reach the safety of the dock before the first raindrops hit and we sprint toward shelter and I wish it could always be like this. Running together to the safety of the cabin. Dodging the storm. Sitting on the dock keeping them safe from thunder and lightning. And everything. But that can’t happen. Won’t happen. Because that is not how life works – not how it’s supposed to be. As hard as that is. We can’t always keep
them safe. It isn’t always as easy as hearing thunder and knowing it’s time to get out of the water. Sometimes it’s impossible to dodge the storm. Sometimes we won’t get there in time to help them. Not because we wouldn’t if we could; but because it isn’t possible. Because we aren’t supposed to be there all of the time every time. As they go through life, they will stumble and they will fall (much like we did). Most times they will get up. It’s possible there may come a time when they don’t. That is the truth. Thankfully, most days we don’t contemplate this. You can’t as a parent or you’d die from the worry and anxiety and the fear of
all the things that could or might go wrong. So you walk down to the beach. And you watch them from the dock and track the storm from the safety of the cabin. And you try to drink it all in and appreciate it for what it is. Moment by moment. And you realize the best and most you can do is give thanks for days like these. For simple times when being together is enough. When it is more than enough. Jill Pertler is an awardwinning syndicated columnist, published playwright and author. shingles during their lifetime. The disease is caused by the chickenpox virus, which remains inactive in the body even after one recovers from chickenpox. For reasons that are not fully known, the virus can reactivate years later and cause shingles. The pain from shingles can last for months or years after the rash goes away. According to health department officials, even if a person had childhood vaccinations, the protection from some vaccines wears off. People in the community (infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems) may not be able to get certain vaccines and rely on others to help prevent the spread of disease. The decision to be vaccinated should be made with your health care provider. Visit www.mcdh.info or www.cdc.gov/vaccines for more information on adult vaccines.
be detected by testing. County residents may pick up a sterile sample bottle at one of 10 local offices and drop it off on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. to noon for testing. For more info, call (815) 334-4585. Because municipal water is already tested for contaminants according federal and state standards, those who are on municipal systems don’t need to have their water tested.

Former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson puts young aspiring NFL players through their paces during his summer football camp for Antioch-area youth held at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex, 96 E. Depot Street, Antioch on Aug. 8. Also on hand to assist Peterson was another former Bears running back, Jason McKie. The event was open to all youngsters who registered. Jen Dosch, executive director of Red Carpet Gala, an organization founded to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Illinois, organized the all-star camp. Dosch met Peterson through her work with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which offered comfort to the Peterson family after their late son, AJ, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Thanks to the foundation and the Round Lake Police Department, AJ was granted his wish to become a policeman for a day.
