Woman charged in fatal cycle crash

A rural Antioch woman is charged in a fatal hit-and-run after she allegedly stuck and killed a motorcyclist from Antioch about 4 a.m. on Aug. 26. Gregory Boyes, 50, of the 26100 block of West Elm Street, Antioch, was ejected from the motorcycle and suffered significant injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet. submitted photo Hi-Liter Three generations of Ludwigs – Gene in the flannel shirt, his son Tom in the grey Lake County Sheriff’s sweat shirt and Tom’s son driving the cement dump wagon – work with the rest of Technical Crash Investigators the Ludwig crew pouring cement for the Antioch United Methodist’s Church’s new examining the crash scene and evidence a motor vehicle, likely sidewalk. collided with the motorcycle. At approximately 9:45 a.m. that day, Leena A. Ultsch, 34, of the 26400 block of West Grapevine Avenue, Antioch,

called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to report she was involved in a traffic crash with a motorcycle during the Leena A. early mornUltsch ing hours. During a subsequent interview with Ultsch, crash investigators determined she was responsible for striking the Suzuki driven by Boyes. Ultsch allegedly admitted she was aware she collided with the Suzuki and left the scene without contacting authorities because she was scared. Crash investigators located Ultsch’s 2004 Toyota Avalon at her residence and found

damage consistent with her statement and the evidence located at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates Boyes was riding a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Highway 173 west of North Linden Lane, in unincorporated Antioch when the crash occurred. Ultsch submitted to a drunken driving test kit by providing her blood and urine. The results of the tests are pending, according to sheriff’s officials. Ultsch was charged with leaving the scene/failure to report death (Class 1 felony), and failure to render aid (Class A misdemeanor). Ultsch’s bond was set at $250,000 and her next court date is Sept. 14 at 1:30 p.m.

The date to begin micro-surfacing pavement on Deep Lake Road north of Highway 173 to the Wisconsin state line and North Avenue from Deep Lake Road to the Wisconsin state line has

been moved and will now begin Sept. 14. Microsurfacing is a technique used to extend the life of existing pavement. The application takes three to five days, and then new

pavement markings will be installed on the finished surface. The road will be open to one-way traffic during construction and will be reopened to two-way traffic at the end of each workday.

Methodist church improves accessibility The members of the United Methodist Church of Antioch recently completed a project to improve accessibility at 113-year old church building. The church, at 848 Main St., is a landmark at the north end of Antioch’s historic downtown. All of the four-foot-wide sidewalks on the southwest and west sides of the church leading to or bordering the church parking lot were replaced with new, heavily reinforced, five-foot wide walks. The eight steps on the northwest corner of the Anderson Education Wing were demolished and replaced with a new ramp. “The new extra-wide sidewalks allow for better pedestrian traffic flow for the many church and community groups that use our building, pastor the Rev. Bill Landis said. “Often, people are arriving for the next activity even as others are leaving from a prior group.

Now two-wheel chairs, or two mothers/fathers with babies in strollers can easily pass. The new, ADA-compliant ramp allows easy access into the Anderson Education Wing without having to go through the Wesley Hall entrance to get into the building.” The Church’s Trustee Committee, chaired by Dan Fluck, oversaw the project. The cement work was done by Ludwig Cement, Inc. The sidewalk project is finished in time for the Rally Day Kickoff Worship Service scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The service will feature the music of the Dixie Dudes Band, the preaching of the Rev. Kathleen Bleyeart and a nursery for preschool children. The fall quarter of Sunday School will start at 9:15 a.m. and the church’s Chancel Choir will have its first fall practice at 8:30 a.m. Those with questions should call the church office at (847) 395-1259.

Woman charged with falsifying police report to get attention A Vernon Hills woman is charged with filing a false police report after allegedly telling deputies she was confronted by two men who could have been suspects in the shooting of a Fox Lake police officer. On Sept. 2, at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance. The caller, Kristin B. Kiefer, 30, of Tanwood Court, Vernon Hills, indicated she was traveling north on Highway 12 in Volo, when she pulled to the side of the roadway, due to car trouble. Shortly after pulling to the side of the road, Kiefer told police she saw two adult men (one white and one black) near a cornfield, on the side of the road. She allegedly reported the two men attempted to gain access to her vehicle, but then fled into the cornfield, because they feared she was calling the police.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, who were in the midst of a search for three suspects who are believed to Kristin B. have killed Kiefer Lt. Joe Gliniewicz in Fox Lake, responded and set up a perimeter. In addition to Lake County Sheriff’s deputies, approximately 85 federal, state, and local law enforcement officers responded to the scene to search for the men. Additionally, 11 police dogs and three air support units assisted in the search. Canines were unable to detect a scent and air units were unable to locate anybody in the areas searched. The area was searched for approximately five hours. Initially, according to sher-

Three men die in fiery crash Three area men were killed in the early morning hours of Aug. 26 when the car they were driving struck a tree and burst into flames in Ingleside. Two of the three victims were identified using dental records and the third was identified through DNA analysis. Preliminary investigation indicates the Kia Optima the victims were in was traveling on Rollins Road east of West Lake Shore Drive when it went off the north side of the road and struck a tree. According to the 911 calls received, the car became engulfed in flames after striking the tree. After the fire was extinguished by Fox Lake Fire Department, deputies were able to determine three individuals were deceased inside the vehicle. On Aug. 27, the Lake County Coroner’s Office positively identified two of the three occupants. The driver was identified as Jon R. McKinney, 30, of the 24600 block of West Lake Shore Dr., Round Lake Beach. The front seat passenger was Michael S. Mortensen, 33, of the 34700 block of North Gerberding Ave., Ingleside. A day later, the Lake County Coroner’s Office, in conjunction with the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory, confirmed the identity of the third victim using DNA analysis as James A. Mortensen, 30, of the 2200 block of High Point Dr., Lindenhurst. James Mortensen was the younger brother of Michael Mortensen.

Two charged for stealing yard equipment in area Two Marengo men were arrested and charged Friday with a series of area burglaries that netted more than 40 pieces of commercial-grade lawn equipment, including backpack leaf blowers, weed trimmers and hedge trimmers, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The pair allegedly targeted landscaping business trailers. Terrance McNulty, 26, and David Westra, 27, of the 800 block of Woodland Lane, Marengo, were charged with various counts of burglary,

theft and criminal damage to property following a twomonth investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Officials took their first related burglary report to a landscaping business in the Woodstock area on July 19. Over the next several weeks, the Sheriff’s Office took nine more reports of burglaries to landscaping businesses. Information developed by the investigation led to McNulty and Westra as possible suspects. The Sheriff’s Office served

a search warrant, with the help of the Carpentersville and Marengo Police Departments, and was able to gain enough evidence to arrest McNulty and Westra. McNulty was charged with nine counts of burglary (Class 2 felony), nine counts of theft (Class 3 felony), and Westra was charged with one attempted burglary (Class 3 felony) and one criminal damage to property (Class A misdemeanor). Bond amounts and next court dates are pending.

Goodwill customers fund $14,000 in scholarships The Friends of McHenry County College Foundation recently received $14,000 in scholarship funds from Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois that are targeted to assist in the education of people with disabilities. The funding was generated at the four McHenry County Goodwill retail locations through Goodwill Industries “Round Up” program. The fundraising program asked Goodwill customers to “round up” their purchases to the nearest whole dollar at the stores to contribute to the local scholarship. “I am delighted by the generosity shown by Goodwill Industries and its customers throughout the community who made this donation to the college possible,” said Katrina McGuire, executive director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “We are proud to provide our students with this opportunity as we con-

tinue our commitment toward learning and student success.” McGuire also stated, “This is the fourth donation that the foundation has received from Goodwill Industries. Thanks to previous donations totaling $6,500, we have proudly awarded seven $1,000 scholarships since 2012, including four to MCC students this fall semester.” “This scholarship program is a perfect match for Goodwill’s mission of helping individuals with barriers achieve the dignity of work through advanced education and we couldn’t do it without the generosity of our Goodwill customers,” stated Sam Schmitz, president of Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois. For more information about Friends of MCC Foundation scholarships, contact the Foundation office at (815) 455-8721.

find much more assistance is needed than initially requested. Many people are already embarrassed to ask for help so they only ask for part of what they really need. The problem is with some situations only fixing part of the problem will not make a huge difference in our fellow creations’ lives. Sometimes just putting a small Band-Aid on a wound will not allow it to heal. To truly heal the financial wounds of the povertystricken you can’t just do a small cover up. If you only pay part of the gas bill when the electric is about to be disconnected as well, it does not fix the whole problem. If you repair a person’s car but don’t check to see if they also have food and their rent is paid you might have people living in a car that now runs great, but they are homeless and hungry. You have to be sure they can survive going forward or they will be right

two daughters left the room obviously upset to see their mother in that condition. The mother said to me, “I just had chemo three days ago and I don’t think I could keep it down.” I told her how my own sister had just finished a year of chemotherapy and radiation. I showed her several pictures on my phone of my beloved sister when she too had lost all her hair, including her eyelashes and eyebrows, and been thin and gaunt. I then showed her a picture I had recently taken of her when she visited last month, with her hair growing in thick and obviously much healthier. The mother asked me how my sister was doing now and I told her she was cancer free and very healthy again. The mother weakly closed her eyes and said, “I am so happy to hear your sister is surviving this. I feel so weak I don’t know if I can go on…” I reassured her she could survive this and come out stronger than ever. The grandmother was trying to hide her tears during this conversation and she added, “I know you will get through this. Right now you are just tired and weak from the chemo. We will let you rest now and go talk about other things.” The grandmother tucked a blanket in around her sick daughter and she fell fast asleep. We quietly left the room and went to talk in the kitchen. I asked if I could look around and the grandmother offered to give me a tour of the townhome. The kitchen was small and just like I had suspected there was not much food. The only other room on the main floor was the living room I had entered through. The mother was sleeping in what was the den as there was not a closet or windows. The grandmother told me they had to use that as her bedroom because she was too weak to take the stairs up to her bedroom. The grandmother was now sleeping in her bedroom and the two teenage children were sharing a room. I commented on the cot the mother was sleeping on as it did not look to be very stable or comfortable. The grandmother admitted they did not have enough beds as she and the daughter had

I was impressed with the young woman’s good sense to not invite in a stranger and to lock the door. The grandmother said, “Really? I thought for sure you would think we were rude.” I assured her that absolutely the teenage girl had done the right thing. After introducing myself to the two teenagers and the grandmother, they led me into a small room off the living room. In the dark room lying on a cot was the mother who was going through chemotherapy. Even in the dark room I could see how gaunt, pale and frail she was. The woman struggled to get up so I immediately told her not to get up. She said, “My mom told me she had written a letter but I wasn’t expecting you to answer it. I look like a mess.” As she said this, she slipped a baseball cap onto her nearly bald head. I reassured her I was not there to judge anyone’s appearance and that she looked fine just the way she was. One of the teenage daughters handed her a glass with a straw and asked her to take a sip of what looked like water. The mother shook her head and turned away. The

I had a feeling this might be what I would find when I went to visit the grandmother, her daughter and teenage grandchildren so I would have to investigate thoroughly, like I always do. I arrived at the address provided on the letter of request. It was a townhome a ways outside of town and definitely driving distance to any resources or jobs. I walked to the door noting the older car in the driveway. I knocked on the door and it was answered by whom I assumed was one of the teenage children. I asked if the grandmother was there and they asked who I was. I showed my identification threw the storm door. The girl said she would be right back and shut and locked the door. In a moment it was opened again by the grandmother. She flung open the storm door and ushered me inside, saying, “I am so sorry. You know how teenagers are. I can’t believe she shut the door in your face like that.” I laughed and told her I did indeed know what teenagers were like and that

The reason I am writing for help is because we need some car repairs we cannot afford. We need our car to get back and forth to the hospital. I also drive my 16-year-old granddaughter to her job in town because I worry about her walking alone, especially if she works at night, and I also work part-time. My daughter’s car broke down right after she got sick and she ended up scrapping it because it was no longer worth fixing. My car is old and has a lot of miles on it. I think if it gets the needed repairs it will be safe enough to get us around. Please consider helping us with our car repairs. It would really relieve some of the stress and worry we are going through right now.

been sharing a bed before she became too sick to take the stairs. I made a note to order a double bed for the mother to sleep more comfortably in the den. We sat down to go over their budget. The grandmother was living on Social Security and the mother was just beginning to receive her disability. She had been forced to give up her job as a waitress when she had her mastectomy three months ago. She had some complications after surgery and had been unable to return. They had fallen behind in their rent and utilities and could not afford the repairs needed on the car. I asked why she had not told me about the other overdue expenses when she wrote her letter. The grandmother admitted she had only asked for car repairs as her pride had gotten in the way. She hung her head in embarrassment and shame and said, “I was too embarrassed to admit how much we had fallen behind.” I took her hand and said, “Don’t you dare feel embarrassed to ask us for help. You have given up everything to come here and help your daughter when she is fighting for her life. You are giving her the help and support she needs right now. You have nothing to feel ashamed about. If you were sitting somewhere selfishly ignoring their situation, that would be something to be ashamed about. I thank you for contacting The Time Is Now to Help and allowing us to help you.” The grandmother was dabbing her eyes with a tissue as I said this to her. I looked over their overdue utility bills, writing down the information and amounts owed so we could make a payment to bring them up to date and allow some credit for the future. I also made notes to pay their two months overdue rent and pay a month into the future. The grandmother showed me the amount of the daughter’s disability and with her Social Security they would be able to pay their reasonable rent in the future, once they were caught up on all expenses. I had considered finding them another rental due to the mother’s inability to climb the stairs but after finding how reasonable their rent was I decided it was probably best they stayed where they were. Not to mention how hard a move would be in the mother’s condition at this time. We heard the mother weakly calling for help and the grandmother quickly got up and rushed to the den.

Law enforcement officials in Fox Lake, Ill., search for suspects in the murder of police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz on Sept. 1. Hundreds of police officers from agencies throughout the area joined in the effort.

to the lieutenant. “He was the kind of man, who, in the face of danger, ran towards it while others ran away. His dedication was unshakeable and his course was unwavering,” Rachel Smithberg of the Joliet Police Department said. Kenosha (Wis.) County Sheriff David Beth conveyed his “deep sadness and condolences” on behalf of his department in a press release last week. “Our thoughts are with our neighbors and the members of the Fox Lake Police Department and community at this very difficult time,” Beth said. Fatal confrontation According to the dispatch, Gliniewicz radioed in at 7:52 a.m. on the morning of his death to say he was pursuing three males – two white, one black, who appeared to be acting suspicious near the intersection of Highway 12 and Sayton Road in Fox Lake. The area where the shooting took place is described as desolate with empty fields and abandoned buildings. Gliniewicz was pursing the three men on foot when dispatchers lost contact with him. His body was found by responding officers just after 8 a.m. The two responding officers immediately began to search for the suspects. Gliniewicz’s service pistol was missing when he was found. The firearm, which had been fired, was recovered near the scene on Thursday, but officials didn’t divulge who fired the gun. A manhunt was launched shortly after Gliniewicz’s

body was discovered and the effort utilized over 400 additional police focusing on an area of approximately two square miles. The search, which included helicopters and military style equipment, concluded over 14 hours later at 10:30 p.m. The suspects remained at large as of Monday, according to officials. Massive police presence The manhunt for the three men continued with reduced manpower and a larger radius through last week. Neighborhoods throughout the area have been canvassed by officers in search of information about the suspects. Police are contacting local businesses and homeowners in search of any potential clues or security camera footage. As of Thursday evening, one homeowner’s security camera footage had been sent to Homeland Security for review. In addition to Fox Lake Police, U.S. Marshals, ATF, FBI, the Illinois State Police, officers throughout the Northern Illinois area, and SWAT teams were assisting in search efforts. Fox Lake schools were closed Sept. 2 to ensure the safety of staff and students while the manhunt continued. A Kenosha County Sheriff’s patrol supervisor was sent to the scene to offer any assistance needed. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team and specialized vehicles patrolled Western Kenosha County during the overnight hours Sept. 1 and 2 in conjunction with normal uniformed patrol units

and responded to several suspicious calls along the southern border of Kenosha County. Beth also increased the number of uniformed patrol units and has been in contact with the schools on the west end of Kenosha County. Family attends vigil

Community members held a vigil in remembrance of Gliniewicz on the evening of Sept. 2 at Lakefront Park in Fox Lake. Masses of people, many holding signs with “G.I. Joe,” showed their support publicly throughout the day and at the vigil itself. “Joe was my best friend and my world – my hero,”

his tearful wife, Melodie, told the people who gathered by boat and car for the vigil. Police officials held a press conference on Thursday as Gliniewicz’s family stood alongside his fellow officers while officials expressed their belief that the men responsible for the murder of would be found.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects is encouraged to call local police, 911, or the Lake County Sheriff’s office at (847) 5495200. Tips can also be submitted to Fox Lake Police at (847) 587-3100. This story was compiled through staff and correspondent reports.

Several representatives from Westosha Lakes Church of Paddock Lake appeared before the Lakewood Grade School board on Aug. 26 to ask to rent space to expand the church to the Twin Lakes. The Rev. Andrew Smiley, one of Westosha Lakes Church’s pastors, explained to the Lakewood School Board and administration how the church originally began at Westosha Central High School. “We would want to partner with you and contribute to the community,” he said. Westosha Lakes now holds two services on Sundays and a number of members live west of Paddock Lake. “It makes sense for us to

move west,” Smiley said. When Westosha Lakes began offering services at Central High School, there were certain items that the church needed, like chairs, and that the school could use so the church left the chairs behind when they moved to a building at 24823 74th St., Paddock Lake. Church officials said they would be willing to have the same sort of arrangement with Lakewood. The church would agree to cover any additional costs for custodial services and an employee to be on hand to open and close the facility on Sundays. The church food pantry, Helping Hands, was also discussed. Smiley said the church also serves the needy with Thanksgiving dinners.

“We would be happy to serve the Twin Lakes area in that capacity,” Smiley said. School Board President Amanda Hahn was absent, so board Vice President Rhett Suhre ran the meeting and said, “We already have a very active food pantry in Twin Lakes, so we wouldn’t want to promote one part of the community while not promoting another.” He also said the Westosha Lakes request was in line with building use policy, but he board needed more specifics regarding the intended use before they could make a decision. “We need to know just what spaces you would need and what times you would be there,” Suhre said. Members of the Ugandan kids choir from Childcare Worldwide offer up smiles and silliness after finishing a performance recently at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington. The choir is working its way through an 11-month tour of the country. SUBMITTED PHOTO Hi-Liter

from the heart and the home

Ugandan children’s choir shows off hope for the country’s future n the hustle and bustle leading up to the return to school, losing sight of an essential right in the United States – that of a public education – can be easy. After all, how often does a child wish for an extra week (or month, or year) of vacation? For 10 youngsters from a foreign country, getting a chance to share their heritage, their stories, and their faith was a simple reminder that some rarely take an education for granted. With names like Julius, Carol, Aidah, Joab, Joan, Jonathan, Kasim, Milicent, Robinah and Tonny, the Ugandan Kids Choirs of Childcare Worldwide made a lasting impression at Cross Lutheran Church in Burlington Aug. 12. The 10 choir members – chosen from the youngsters sponsored by donors in the United States – spend 11 months touring the country. After their stop in Burlington at Cross Lutheran, the choir had more stops in Illinois, and will be headed toward Indiana and Michigan in the next week. Children are chosen through an audition process. Also included are the student’s academics and their ability to work well within a group. The 10 continue their studies while on the road in the U.S. The choir gives the organization a chance to show the impact Childcare Worldwide has in bringing children out of poverty and educating them to make a difference in the future. Susannah Spaid, the tour leader, started with the group earlier this year. From Bellingham, Wash., she knew all about Childcare Worldwide. “I had known about the choir in previous years. I went to school in the same town our organization was founded in,” Spaid said. “I was out of work, and this kind of fell

into my lap.” While Childcare Worldwide works in several countries, the touring choirs are strictly from Uganda. “It just has the basis of music and dance infused into their culture,” Spaid said. “It’s really easy to get those kids to come over because they’re already prepped and they know … they have that musicality.” The choir performs cultural music and dances, as well as contemporary Christian music. The concerts raise money for further sponsorships. In Cross Lutheran’s case, the show raised about $1,300. “It was pretty packed,” said Cross Lutheran pastor, the Rev. Carolyn Sellers. “(It was a) good turnout.” The youngsters, ranging in age from 8 to 12, travel with 3 to 4 chaperones per tour, and stay with host families in the towns they visit. When the choir visited Burlington, three families of the church played host – the Muccis, the Oldenburgs and the Warrens. And in addition to spreading traditional music, the 10 children also impressed with their behavior and manners. As Sellers explained, the youth always bow to their elders, as well as clear plates and show constant respect. Spaid said the children are taught a culture similar to

A letter to me 20 years ago We all change a little each day. Our experiences mold us. I’m not the same person I was 20 years ago. Hardly – and I’m not just referring to my pants size. It would be interesting (to say the least) if we could go back and talk to the person we were two decades ago. What advice and insight would we give? And, would the person we were then listen to us now – or not?

By

Jill Pertler Columnist

will never end. Believe me, it will. You might think you know it all at this point (that’s one thing that hasn’t changed about us during the last 20 years) but you don’t. Not really. We never do. But Dear me from 1995, I do have a few snippets You are embroiled in the business and busyness of knowledge that might benefit you now and in the of parenting. news: they will grow up. It will come more quickly than you ever could have imagined. And as you lie awake in bed at 2 a.m. you will recall their middleof-the-night cries with fondness and longing. There will even be times when you wish for it to happen again, maybe just once, to be able to smell their baby breath and remind you that you are a young mama. Even though you will delight in their growth, it will be a pain like you’ve never experienced before. Their dependence – and following independence – defines your being. That is OK. The eventual independence will feel good, after a time. You may even get back to some of the old hobbies that you nearly forgot you used to enjoy – gardening, crafting, your husband. The toddler years are

no match for the teenage ones. Having teenagers is much harder, and more fun, than you ever imagined. Enjoy them. At both stages and everything in between. Don’t worry if one of them has feet that grow so much that he needs another new pair of gym shoes mid-school year. In the big scheme of things it is no big deal. Help them to prioritize. Being kind. The importance of family. Good friends. Good choices. Good grades. Worthwhile activities. Sports. In that order. Teach them to take responsibility for their actions. I fear responsibility is getting lost in our age of entitlement. “I was wrong,” and “I’m sorry,” are important phrases for them to practice and master.

I heard the poor woman retching and it brought back memories of sitting with my sister after she endured round after round of chemo. After a few minutes the grandmother returned and apologized. I told her absolutely not to apologize for caring for her daughter so lovingly. She smiled sadly and I could see the strain this was putting on her. I asked if she needed any help with volunteers or nursing care but she declined. I asked if she would like volunteers to pick up some things from the store for them and this she accepted. I offered for her to write a list so she could get what they liked and then I added a few other items I knew would be appreciated. I even added some bottles of the special water my sister claimed was the only water she could stand the taste of after chemotherapy and ingredients for healthy smoothies the daughters could make her. I stayed with the grandmother until the volunteer arrived, sharing with the teenage daughters and grandmother some nutrition tips and recipes I had learned during my sister’s cancer treatment. The daughters were especially excited to try something to help their mother. They said they too would be trying to eat healthy to encourage their mother. The next day the car was sent in for repairs and new tires. The utilities and rent were brought up to date. They had good healthy food in their refrigerator and cabinets. When I paid my last visit I was surrounded by all four ladies, hugging me and giving thanks for all of us. The mother even commented how she felt stronger with the smoothies and how my sister was right about the water we had delivered. She said, “I really feel like you saved my life right now. Not only because of the food but because of the worry you removed that was always in the back of my mind. I was so worried how my family was going to survive while I’m sick. Now I don’t have to worry about being evicted or our utilities being disconnected. I also don’t have to worry about my mother and children breaking down on the side of the road after they drop me off at the hospital. I can’t tell you how much better I feel thanks to everyone at The Time Is Now to Help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Now you understand why we don’t just apply a small Band-Aid to make a change. We make sure every aspect of their financial wound is covered so they can live healthy again and heal all areas of their lives. Please consider helping our pet food program at the “Fill a Truck Load” event to be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Lake Geneva Petco store at 200 N. Edwards Blvd. Be sure to tell the cashier the donation is for the truck-load fundraiser for our four-legged family members. All food donated will be used to help our local efforts to end pet hunger and homelessness. Povertystricken pets and their families really need our help. And for those of you who are looking to add a new pet family member, there will be several rescue groups there with adoptable pets available for you to meet. Consider
