Antioch Comedy spiked with a bit of arsenic aims to attract new businesses

Antioch’s PM&L Theater continues its 56th season with a presentation of the classic play “Arsenic and Old Lace” by Joseph Kesselring. The play will open on Friday, Oct. 28, and will run weekends until Sunday, Nov. 13 at PM&L Theatre, 877 N. Main St., Antioch. Casey Audrain directs. The play is a farcical black comedy revolving around the Brewster family, descended from The Mayflower, but now composed of homicidal maniacs. The hero, Mortimer Brewster, played by Jerod Howard, is a drama critic who debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry Elaine (London Baran). His family includes his two spinster aunts (Regina Reynolds of Antioch and Betty Slack of Waukegan), who poison and murder lonely old men with glasses of their home-made wine; a brother (W. Consultant identifies area’s retail potential By Gail Peckler-Dziki CORRESPONDENT

Antioch Community Development Director Michael Garrigan presented a strategy to target and recruit needed retail business to the area during the Antioch Village Board’s Committee of the Whole meeting Oct. 12. The market analysis defined the Antioch market as an area that stretches from Highway 50 in Kenosha County, Wis., in the north to Long Lake in the south and west to east from Richmond to Hickory Corners. The estimated population of this market area in 2016 is almost 120,000 and that is expected to increase by 1.9 percent by 2021 to nearly 122,000. The market analysis also contains the median income of that area, which is more than $45,000. The median income for residents in the Village of Antioch sits at more than $80,000. Different types of shoppers were also defined, from soccer moms to savvy suburbanites. This information aided Retail Strategies, the consulting firm that compiled the information, in discovering what types of businesses might fit into the area.
