ANTIQUE AFICIONADOS FIND A TREASURE TROVE AT ELKHORN MARKET by Heather Ruenz STAFF WRITER
he Elkhorn Antique Flea Market began its 40th season in May and organizers said they’re looking forward to hosting a three more events this year. The market features eight buildings filled with treasure-sellers and many more dealers set up outside at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn. “You’ve obviously got the antique bug just like us. In fact, that’s how the Elkhorn Antique Flea Market began in 1982. A set of collectors and antique dealers
saw potential in a perfect setting at the Walworth County Fairgrounds for the start of something big,” the market website states. Back then, according to the site, a market would be considered a good day when more than 50 dealers would show up. “Add another zero and you’ve got our current average of over 500 dealers,” organizers state. Dealers bring with them a wide range of merchandise from furniture in the rough to fine refinished, glassware to pottery, advertising to linens, decoys to dolls and everything else in between, the site states. “Besides seasoned show dealers,
grandpa’s attic might show up in the back of a truck. The pickin’ is great and so are the people,” organizers said. “So come on out for a real antiquing experience this season. No cyberspace here. Get a good look at what you want. Talk with our wonderful dealers. Ponder a decision over some great food … and go home happy.” The first show of the 2021 season was May 16. The remaining markets are set for June 27, Aug. 8 and Sept. 26. The hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and it’s held rain or shine. Tickets are $5 at the gate and parking is available free of charge. The market offers paved walkways. Pets are not allowed.
