The Walworth County Fairgrounds is at 411 E. Court Street in Elkhorn.
A variety of food options There are plenty of food options available at the markets, from dessert and snacks to sandwiches and Wisconsin cheese curds. “You could eat your way from one end of the grounds to the other,” the website states. Here’s a list of food stands at the market and highlights of what they feature: • Buffalo Bills – buffalo burgers, brats, chicken wraps, soft pretzels; • Big Foot FFA – grilled cheese, fruit cup; • Elkhorn FFA – breakfast sandwiches, cheeseburgers, hot dogs; • Elkhorn Lions Club – BBQ pork sandwiches, brats, ice cream bars, nachos; • Happy Camper Coffee - specialty coffee brews, assorted pastries;
• Lefty’s Too – pork tot bowl, fries, hot dogs, burgers; • Lopez’s Anchor Inn – variety of Mexican food; • Say Cheese – deep-fried cheese curds; • Thelen’s – cream puffs, eclairs, brownies, sundaes, root beer floats; • Walworth County 4H House of Pork – boneless butterfly pork sandwiches, brats, potato salad; • Whitewater Lions Club – ribeye sandwiches, jumbo hot dogs and half-pound burgers.
Sharing their passion At a past Elkhorn Antique Flea Market, vendors described the love they for history and the preservation of the different ways people used to live. “I love history and finding items that are from a certain time period. My booth is sorted into eras,” vendor Barb Shukin said at the time. “It brings a lot of joy to
people.” Shukin offered a variety of reworked pieces along with originals. “Some are pure, some are restored. If I do any reworking to a piece – for example recovering a chair – it is with periodappropriate vintage fabric,” she said. In the past several years, antique items have become increasingly trendy. While most vendors said they were pleased vintage items continue to remain in circulation, some said they didn’t concern themselves with how popular something is. “I don’t worry about trends. I buy what I love. I don’t even like to look through magazines,” Diane Passi said at the time. Passi owns a store in Barrington, Ill., called Checkpoint 19 Antiques. The store has nailed down a sought-after industrial look that transcends styles and eras. “My husband and I love telling a story with our pieces. People visit our booth, and they become mesmerized,” Passi said at the time.
