Manhunt follows a trail of crime Suspect in spree wanted for questioning in murder case

Kenosha County authorities continued their search early this week for a man wanted for questioning in a murder case who is also now a suspect in an armed robbery, a burglary, vehicle thefts and a high-speed chase. Sheriff’s officials were searching for Andrew Mario Obregon, 32, who they’ve described as a person of interest in the death of Tywon Anderson, 37, whose body was found in a cornfield in the Town of Paris Sept. 26. On Saturday night into Sunday morning, authorities suspect Obregon was responsible to two convenience store thefts – a “smash and grab” burglary at the Countryside gas station and convenience store at Highway C (Wilmot Road) and Highway 45; and an armed robbery that took place a short time later at the Speedway store on Highway 50 and Interstate 94. Sheriff’s deputies pursued Obregon, who they believe was driving a stolen Ford SUV, following the Speedway robbery, according to a media release issued by the Sheriff’s Office Sunday. The vehicle crashed near the 1600 block of Highway MB (136th Avenue) and Obregon apparently escaped on foot. A short time later, a resident of the area reported that a new, white Ford Transit cargo van had been stolen from the vicinity of the crash, the release said. The van had Illinois plates and green lettering on the side reading “Sports Interiors.” Obregon is described as a white male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. “Obregon should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Obregon is urged to immediately call 911,” the news release said. Anyone with information regarding Obregon is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (262) 605-5100. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call the Kenosha Area Crime Stoppers at (262) 656-7333 or toll free (800) 807-8477. There is a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

According to online court records, Obregon has been convicted of at least three felonies including receiving stolen property in Racine County in 2013, and separate theft cases in Racine and Walworth counties in 2006. Charges of felony fleeing an officer were filed against Obregon in June of this year. High-speed chase Police pursuit of Obregon initially began Friday afternoon when deputies engaged in a high-speed vehicle chase that travelled through portions of Salem and Brighton in Kenosha County, and Kansasville and Union Grove in Racine County. Authorities believe Obregon was driving a stolen 1988 Ford Mustang at “very high speeds,” according to a media release. He was ultimately able to elude police. The chase resulted in a large police presence in the area. Friday’s search included assistance from the Kenosha Sheriff’s Tactical Response Team, the Racine County Sheriff’s Department, the Air One helicopter and the state Department of Natural Resources. During the course of the investigation on Friday, Obregon’s mother, Susan Marie Obregon, 60, of Brighton, was arrested under suspicion of obstructing the investigation and aiding a felon. Authorities were initially seeking to question Andrew Obregon as part of the investigation into Anderson’s death. Anderson, who is from Kenosha, went missing the week of Sept. 21. In an interview last week, Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said authorities suspect Anderson died the same day he went missing, and called the death suspicious. The Sheriff’s Office launched the investigation after two people found a dark-colored Andrew Obregon

Kenosha County authorities early this week said crime suspect Andrew Obregon was last seen driving a stolen white Ford Transit van similar to this one. He eluded deputies early Sunday following a burglary, a robbery and vehicle chase that ended with Obregon crashing a stolen SUV.

van about 1,000 feet off Highway A (Seventh Street) in Paris Township. Anderson’s body was found close to the van. “This is a scene with suspicious circumstances tied to it,” Beth said at the time. “The possibility (is) that others were there and may know what happened at this scene.” Beth initially stressed that he did not feel the public was at risk. “Anderson is well known to law enforcement for criminal activity and drugs,” Beth said. “This was not a random home invasion. This was a targeted person.”

However, Beth said that the department was purposely restricting the information available to the public in order to aid the investigation. “Giving out too much information will actually hinder (the investigation),” Beth said. “There will only be a few people who know what this scene looked like.” The sheriff added that there are people that the department is looking for. “We have a few people of interest we are looking to talk to,” he said. Among them, as was revealed later, is Obregon.
