He’s held on $5 million, 32 charges

Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth (left) presents the Silver Star Award to deputy John Wilke during a ceremony Oct. 30 honoring department personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty. Wilke was recognized for risking his own life by pulling an unconscious man from a burning car on June 21, 2014. The man had fled from deputies at high speed and crashed his car into a pole before the car overturned and burst into flames, according to the commendation honoring Wilke.
Andrew Obregon, 32, was ordered held on an unprecedented $5 million bond by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office Nov. 4. Obregon, of Bristol, stands accused of 32 charges, including first-degree intentional homicide of Tywon Anderson and attempted first-degree intentional homicide of a Brighton resident during his final attempt to escape custody Oct. 13. “The state is requesting what I believe is the highest bond in (Kenosha) County’s history,” said deputy district attorney Michael Graveley. Graveley cited multiple reasons for setting the bond, including eluding authorities on five separate occasions, three stolen vehicles and two robberies through both Kenosha and Racine counties. If convicted on all charges, Obregon would face a maximum of life imprisonment plus 439 years. Kenosha County Circuit Court Judge Chad Kerkman said this is the most unusual case he has ever presided over. “I have been in this community for a long time, been a court commissioner for over 40 years and have been on the criminal bench for about six years,” said Kerkman. “And in my lifetime I have never witnessed this type of behav-

ior that (Obregon) exhibited in this case.” Kidnapping was added to the first-degree attempted homicide charge, but Obregon said through court-appointed attorney Kristyne Watson that there was no intent. “He clearly denied that he intended to kill her,” Watson told Circuit Court judge Chad Kerkman, referring to the woman Obregon beat during his atAndrew tempt to flee. Obregon However, Kerkman noted Obregon had pushed the victim downstairs and beat her repeatedly, necessitating the need for a Flight for Life helicopter transport to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. “He literally changed the habits of everyone residing within Southeastern Wisconsin,” Graveley said, noting that people said they changed their habits and way of living through the 22-day crime spree. The spree began Sept. 21 when authorities discovered the remains of Anderson, who was Obregon’s purported drug dealer, in a Town of Paris cornfield.
