WATERFORD AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 102 E. Main Street, Waterford, WI 53185 • (262) 534-5911
Letter From the President Aside from the looming holidays, it’s time to start thinking about your membership renewal for the chamber or joining, if you haven’t yet. If you are already a chamber member, then I know you are already aware of the benefits, but if you’re not, then why should you join? Glad you asked! There are a number of benefits that the chamber provides. Right off the bat, we all know this: People do business with people they know! The chamber helps this by providing many networking events, such as Business After 5, Power Breakfast, Power Lunch, etc. The chamber also provides web-based marketing of your products or services. Take advantage of the member business directory and share your “Hot Deals” and any updates. You also gain referrals, as the chamber receives inquiries regularly from individuals or businesses looking for potential vendors. Credibility is another big benefit. A study by the Schapiro Group showed that 49% of consumers think more favorably of a business when that company is a part of the chamber of commerce. Other benefits are the business contacts you gain, access to members-only discounts, and the visibility increase your business gets in the community. So, as you can see, there are real results from being a part of the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce. We live in a small town area and with small towns; small businesses gain the most benefit by interconnecting with each other. The Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce does a great job at providing that platform for us. Contact our Executive Director, Katy Engels, for membership information. James R.L. Little, III 2015 Waterford Chamber President

The heavy lifting into the Village of East Troy’s municipal budget is about to begin. As a prelude to the time-honored ritual, officials this week backed a proposal to seek applicants for a position within the Public Works Department. The Village Board on Aug. 24 voted, 5-2, in favor of adding the position of collection systems operator to the municipal payroll, likely in 2016. The exact dollar amount for the position was not set in stone, but officials gave conceptual approval to move forward with the plan. In a memo to the board, Mike Miller, director of public works and utilities, gave several bullet points for a job description. “(The) primary function is to maintain the sanitary sewer collectionRISING system and all lift stations … ABOVE: Water- in in ford conjunction with assistance High School senior Laura Vacek developing and making a recomdefeats challenges theimmendation forof5-year cancercapital on the basketbaplans, provement in relation to the ll court. – Page 11 in collection system,” Miller wrote the memo.

a red sky at night is a sailor’s delight, as the old saying goes and it was accurate the morning after this spectacular sunset on Lake Beulah last weekend. With autumn just around the corner, area residents are trying to get the most out of the final days of summer by spending time on the lake.
