COMPUTING LEVEL 5 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA
Overview
Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications are widely recognised by industry and higher education as the principal vocational qualification at Levels 4 and 5. This course follows the Data Analytics specialist pathway. It is designed to help students secure the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed in the workplace and represents the latest in professional standards and provides opportunities for students to develop behaviours for work.
It is designed to provide you with the skills required for employment in the growing computing and data analytics sectors and addresses the increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathways at Levels 4 and 5. There are approximately 510 hours a year student contact time over a two-year period.
Your timetable will be approximately 17 hours per week. There is an expectation that students may undertake 20 – 30 hours per week of independent study.
All staff on this programme are highly experienced with appropriate skillsets for the subjects they are delivering.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age on or before 1st July in the year of proposed entry to the course.
• Applicants should normally have obtained a minimum of 48 UCAS points achieved through the completion of A-Levels, National Awards, Access or other alternative approved level 3 qualifications
• Have attained at least 15 points at Level 2 or above (e.g. GCSE) or have alternative approved qualifications. In addition, applicants must provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English Language

Please note that applicants progressing to higher education courses at Level 4 and above in the College or UK Universities may require a specific GCSE/ A Level profile. In some cases, the Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy may not be a suitable alternative to a GCSE. A base campus has been listed for the purposes for any faceto-face delivery.

Other Fees
Each year students go on visits and attend various events, etc. as opportunities arise. While these are not mandatory for success, they complement course content and should cost no more than £20 - £30 per year, paid as and when required.
Further Study
On successful completion of this course and depending on your grades, you may progress to a range of computing degrees or into full-time employment in the computing sector.

Principles Of Cloud Computing Level 5 Certificate
Overview
This course will enable the learner to design and deploy cloud computing-based applications using a number of vendors to meet the needs of business related IT departments. Learners will understand the constraints and opportunities that the different cloud computing applications can bring to a business. Learners will understand that cloud computing is not just a single entity, but a platform and a range of tools that be accessed anywhere and tailored to suit a particular business requirement(s).

This course will enable the learner to understand how to secure computer networks, understand cyber security from both defensive and offensive perspectives and how to implement and manage the security of computer networks from an industry perspective.

• ICT skills sufficient to allow the learner to successfully undertake the qualification
The course is funded through the SkillUP Flexible Skills Fund which requires individuals:
• Must be 18 on or before course start date
• Eligible to work in Northern Ireland
• ‘Settled’ in Northern Ireland and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years
• Is an individual who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK
• Candidates are only permitted to complete a maximum of 2 free courses at a time

Overview
This course will enable the learner to understand data types and be able to design and create relational databases and associated queries. The learner will also understand the characteristics of big data and how to use open-source frameworks to manage big data, how to design, develop and implement computer-based algorithms used in processing large volumes of data within industry today.

Overview
This qualification will introduce learners to analytical approaches used to collect and investigate data in a meaningful way. The statistical concepts for understanding distributions and probability will be introduced along with several tests and approaches that can be used to evaluate the quality of data assessing it for blunders, missingness, outliers and skewness. Statistical models and the concept of predictive analytics will be introduced, and examples given through the introduction of regression analysis.
