Kellehers have gone ‘back to where it all began’

THREE centuries ago, it took fifty-four horse and cart loads to produce one foot of the gorgeous stone that guests can now behold throughout the inside and outside of the Curragh Farm Lodges and House. Also known as ‘the house on the hill shining a guiding light over Riverstick’. As they continue to farm on the 300-yearold family farm with their four children, Maurice and Veronica Kelleher realised that like most farms in Ireland, they had an underused property asset. They had old workmen staff houses that could be converted into self-catering accommodation, thereby serving the local economy around Belgooly, Riverstick and Kinsale, which is dependent on

tourism but in short supply of accommodation. What better place than an environmentallyfriendly working farm to serve as a base for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way?

In 2018, the Kelleher family started restoring the out houses to the highest of standards comprising exposed wood beams, mezzanines, vaulted ceilings and traditional stonework.

Launching three luxurious self catering one-bedroom lodges in March 2020. True to the ‘back to where it all began’ spirit of their agri-tourism family business journey, they then restored their historic farmhouse to its former glory to add a stunning two bedroom self catering offering. Last but not least, they restored the naturally-occurring pathways, working with the surrounding environment to make them accessible. Located in West Cork and close to Cork city, Cork Airport and Kinsale – this is the perfect base to explore the Wild Atlantic Way.

As you approach Curragh Farm, you are greeted by calves, cattle, horses, Dalmatians and even alpacas into a whole new peaceful world. This journey has been lifechanging for the Kellehers and sustainable for the farm and the community. It’s made the West Cork farm viable, familyfriendly and it supports the local economy.
