From The Mayor

Spring has sprung, and love is in the air! Can you feel it? It’s filled with anticipation and the desire to live, work, worship, and play together.

Do you remember the song “How Sweet it is to be Loved by You!” by the great Marvin Gaye? Recently hearing that song, while he was describing the affinity two people have for each other, it led me to think how applicable those words are for ourselves and our community.

We are all very fortunate to live in the Village of South Holland, a thriving locality filled with people who genuinely care about each other, a true practicing definition of “loving thy neighbor.” It’s the sense of family and the reality of fellowship that sets us apart, an inspiring model of consistency sought after by many cities and towns across our great country. Make no mistake, it is you, our residents, who continue to make this place special, who make each other feel loved, who make it so easy for all of us to love South Holland!

Similarly, our Village Board and administrative team, in creating a clean, bright, and beautiful community, work tirelessly to ensure that each of you know the love and respect we have for you and your families. As has been stated earlier this year, the mission of our Coming Together 2030 strategic plan is clear. We seek to imitate the wisdom of inventor and entrepreneur, Henry Ford…“Coming together is a beginning. Staying together is progress. Working together is success.” This mindset promotes the love we share to continue to make South Holland great.

To truly love oneself and those around us, we often seek to develop a strong commitment to a healthy body, an inquisitive mind, and a peaceful soul. The hope is that you continue to take advantage of the vast opportunities provided throughout the village to achieve each of these tenets. Our Community Center is the preferred place to assist in the development of your wholistic self. Our Recreational Services staff continues to weave innovation with tradition, capturing the wants and needs of both our adult and youth populations. Enjoy perusing this edition of the FIT Book. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of ways to develop and maintain a healthy body, your fitness goals, your abilities, and a love for yourself and others.

Enjoy Summer 2023. May it be filled with people, places, and activities you love. Love is definitely in the air!
