Lady Cavs host OFSSAA volleyball KINGSVILLE – The Kingsville Lady Cavaliers hosted the OFSAA AA Volleyball championships last week, finishing in fourth place their pool. The tournament, featuring 20 teams from around the province, was played at KDHS, LDSS, Migration Hall and UMEI. Kingsville, in Pool C, kicked off the tournament against Ottawa’s

Samuel-Genest, losing 25-4 and 25-8. The Lady Cavs found themselves up against Streetsville Secondary in match two, falling in two games, 25-16 and 25-9. Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School from Sudbury was their third opponent of the tournament. Needing to put some points on the scoreboard, Kingsville pushed Lo-Ellen to the limit, falling 25-

21 and 25-22 in straight games. Game four of the round-robin found them up against Fenelon Falls, with the Cavaliers winning both games of this one, 25-22 and 25-18. That set up a best-offive consolation match against a strong Port Perry team on Tuesday evening at Migration Hall. The Cavs held tight with the Rebels, but lost in

three straight games, 2522, 25-20 and 25-13. Port Perry went on to compete in the consolation final, where they lost to Lo-Ellen. The gold medal match between Streetsville and Burlington’s Nelson High went four games with Streetsville coming out on top. Tournament organizers were Jason Leili and Sydney Booth.

Pets of the Week

LADY

5 year old female - Lady is a very sweet and loving feline. She ADORES being pet and is always asking to have her head scratched. Lady loves to be by your side or perched up on you lap. She has no interest in playing with any toys and would much rather just be showered with your love. Lady is a little shy in kennel and opens up when she feels less confined, a home with no young children trying to be all over her would be best.

GROOT 3 years old Anatolian Shepherd Mix - I’m a sweet boy full of energy, I hope you’re looking for an active fella! I LOVE exploring and being a dog, that sometimes I forget a human is on the other end of the leash, so it’s safe to say I’ll need some help with leash walking and not pulling you or bouncing all over the place. I would love a yard to run in, and will need other ways to expel my energy. I’m also a big cuddle bug and will give you all the love in the world!

Filipino basketball league opens The annual Filipino Basketball League, organized by the Filipino-Canadian Association of Leamington, hosted its opening ceremony at the Kinsmen Recreation Complex on Sunday, March 8. The opening ceremony was a huge success. It was attended by the players, sponsors, organizers, volunteers, family and friends. This year there are seven teams from Leamington and two teams from Windsor, all playing under the banner “We Are One”, which is to help provide the Filipino community – some of which are migrant workers – with local support and camaraderie. Games will be played every Sunday and the league runs until May 31. The season wraps up with a closing ceremony and championship games.
