Who We Are
Key Club is an international high school organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide community service, build character and develop leadership. Kiwanis International sponsors Key Club International by serving the children of the world. Key Club International is mainly associated with March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network and UNICEF. Our Key Club is in Division 65, part of the Pacific Northwest District. We do not make keys, but rather we are keys to the community. Our mission is to make a difference.

Message From The President! Hey Southridge Key Clubbers! We’re so excited to start off the 2012-2013 year for our school’s Key Club!! We have a lot in store for you all this year. First off, I’d like to give a huge, huge thanks to our beloved Editor Winnie Lee for making these newsletters. It’s the first time our club has started this, so I’m really looking forward to how they turn out. We’ll be releasing these on a fairly regular basis, so make sure to check them out for information, notices, updates, awards, and messages from the officers! Now, whether you’re a returning member or someone who has yet to commit, I commend you for showing interest in Key Club. I can honestly and wholeheartedly say that joining and becoming a leader of Key Club has changed my life – for the better. It’s not just about service learning, and as cliché as that sounds, it’s completely true. Many of us regard service learning as merely a bothersome requirement to fulfill in order to graduate from high school. What Key Club does is give you context – by participating in the many Key Club-led activities, you’ll actually start believing what you’re writing down for your SL reflection sheet. Whether it be raising money to fund students’ education by selling YUDA Bands, donating pocket change for Miracle Minute, or even going down to the Oregon Food Bank every month to help package food, going through each event together with peers who are motivated and excited to be a part of this positive force changes the entire experience for you. It turns what felt like homework, an obligation, into a duty you feel you ought to carry out not because you’re required to, but because you want to. It definitely helps you mature as a person and see the bigger picture and realize just how big the world is beyond the Southridge sphere, and realize how well off we are compared to those less fortunate elsewhere, or even right at home. This being said, I truly look forward to working with you all this year as your President, but most importantly, your fellow Key Club member. It’s my goal to see that the upcoming generation of Key Club leaders and members are inspired and have the spirit of service instilled in them, so let’s make it happen! United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) helps to save and improve children’s lives. One of their campaigns is The ELIMINATE project, partnered with Kiwanis. It is aimed to prevent maternal/neo-natal tetanus by providing funds for medicine. All it takes is $1.80 for an immunization shot. So get out there and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!!

Accomplishments Make sure you turn in your Key Club Dues by November 5 so we can get the Early Bird special. Fill out the form completely and remember to bring $15.
At Portland Rally on June 16, our division, Division 65, won the Spirit Stick! The Division will take turns celebrating with the stick; it’ll be our turn shortly! During Portland Rally, we did the Miracle Minute. The divisions combined raised over $80. Our division raised the most, $30.10! Way to go Awkward Turtles! Thank you for the Key Clubbers who signed up for THPRD Concert In The Park! Keep up the good work Key Clubbers! The Division Beach Clean-up was an astounding success. The group left Seaside squeaky clean. During our Returning-Members meeting, we introduced service learning opportunities for THPRD and BEF Phone-a-thon. The THPRD events went perfectly smooth; the kids had a great time with our volunteers! Our success at Phone-a-thon was one of the greatest in our Key Club’s history. We helped raised over $1100, with our club earning $500! At our first meeting, October 29, we had the largest attendance in our Key Club history! Thank you everyone for being there! Be proud for being a Key Clubber! :D
