He was the beloved husband of the late Irene (nee Edwards) Hall; devoted father of Michael, Mary Grace (Steven) Bauer, Catherine Jane (John) Ort, Elizabeth Ann (James) Meier, Bernadette Marczak, Marguerite (Robert) Burton, Christopher (Susan), Timothy (Kathleen), Patrick (Carol), Matthew (Patricia), Jacqueline (Tracy) Krug, Stephanie and the late Daniel Hall; cherished grandfather of 32 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; loving son of the late Charles W. and Helena J. (nee McGrath) Hall; dear brother of the late Elizabeth (late James) Gala; also survived by four nephews and four nieces. Charles was a devoted family man, and was married for 65 years. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army, becoming a paratrooper and was honorably discharged after being injured during a jump. He attended college on the GI Bill, graduating from the University of Rochester as a Mechanical Engineer, and held a license as a professional engineer. After a few years of working for Mobil Oil, he started his own business for about 40 years. He enjoyed nature and traveling. Arrangements by Lombardo Funeral Home. GARLAND “Guy” SCALES A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Christ, Main St, Angola, NY for Garland “Guy” Scales who died at the age of 90 on May 7, 2012. Guy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Peggy J. (Smith) Scales; children, Brenda Carver, Dennis Scales and Wendy Scales; grandchildren, Keri (Jeff) Haring, Jason Giacchi, Krista (Scott) Harrison, Kelly (Joe) Tomlinson, Rachel and Jordan Scales and great grandchildren; Shana Giacchi, Adrianna Scales, Chaise and Nick Haring, Delaney and Ty Harrison and Paige and Aubrie Tomlinson. Guy was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp during World War II. Upon returning from Europe, he moved to Derby, where he and Peggy married and raised their family. Guy worked and retired from the Republic Steel Plant. After retirement, he and Peggy moved to Florida, where they lived for 20 years, returning to Hamburg 5 years ago. Before passing, Guy spent 5 days at a family reunion in Tennessee witkh every member of this family, where they spent time sharing laughter and love and making amazing memories that everyone will forever treasure. ________

He was the beloved husband of Joann (Bell) Olson; loving father of Jodi (Gary) Pudlewski, Lisa and Penny Olson.; brother of Marilyn (Jerry) Bell, Ronald (Elly) Olson, Sharon (Tom) Borowski, and the late David Olson; grandfather of Cody, Brandon Pudlewski and Skylar Olson Rutter; son-in-law of Laura and John Bell. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Vance was a life long resident of Angola/Derby, NY. In May of 1967 he opened Olson Bros. Marine, in Derby, NY, with his 2 brothers, Ron and David. Today Olson Bros. is operated is operated by his sonin-law, Gary Pudlewski, and daughter Lisa Olson. Vance was a member of the Marine Trades Assoc. of WNY and the Angola Moose Lodge 1614. Two people can use their fingers or a pen to write, draw and interact with content on the surface of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard. There are no special tools or

Mrs. Kristen Chambers’ Grade 3 students at Southtowns Catholic had a priceless learning opportunity at the Walden Galleria Apple Store. Students were taught how to use iPads properly under the instruction of four Apple Store teachers. Each student created a Mother’s Day design that included personal text, graphics and photographs. Designs were printed and given as gifts to each mother. It was a great introduction to

iPads! Now the students will be ready to use the new set of 15 iPads recently purchased by the school. Students brought the class set of iPads to the store to be used during the class. BUCKI CHOSEN FINALIST IN MISS NY PAGEANT

McKenzie Bucki of Angola, age 16 has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss New York Pageant to be held on August 25-27 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Rochester in Rochester, NY. The National American Miss pageants are held for girls 4-18, and have five different age divisions. McKenzie will be participating in the Junior Teen age division, along with other outstanding young ladies from across the great state of New York. The winner of the Pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the National Pageant in California where she will receive an exciting complimentary Tour of Hollywood and two V.I.P. tickets to Disneyland. The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to celebrating American’s future leaders and equiping them with life-long skills. Each year the pageant nationally awards 1.5 million dollars in cash, scholarships and other prizes, which includes a New Ford Mustang Convertible! McKenzie’s activities include cheerleadig, dance, and band. She also enjoys reading and hanging out with friends. Her sponsors include many places from the town of Evans. Mckenzie is the daughter of Jennifer Bucki of Angola. ________

Evans Democratic Club May 15, 2012. The pledge to the flag was led by State Senate candidate Mike Amodeo at the May meeting of the Evans Democratic Club. Mike previously ran for the state Assembly seat in the 146th district. He is a lawyer practicing at Damon Morey who resides in Hamburg with his wife and 3 year old child; there is also one on the way in about a month. “Life is about more than collecting a paycheck. It’s also about public service,” he noted. He compared his record to the other candidates, noting that he is a lifelong Democrat who has never changed parties. Family Court judge candidate Paul Crapsi addressed the Club. Crapsi is challenging an incumbent. He is currently an Administrative Law Judge in the Department of Motor Vehicles on DWI hearings. He previously managed a not-for-profit law firm and was a family law attorney at Legal Aid. He is married with three daughters and a son. Town board member Paul Cooper reported on the Town’s efforts to move to alternate energy sources for the Town facilities. There might be as much as $5,000 to $7,000 a year in savings. The state agency NYSERDA will do a free energy audit for the Town. Cooper noted that the electronics recycling project has collected 3 tons of materials since February 1st. They take computers/ accessories, keyboards, mice, monitors, terminals, printers, fax machines, and other electronics. The complete list is on the Town’s website. Local officials will participate in the ceremony in addition to Keith Dash, Town Supervisor presentation of Evans Veterans of the Year awards to Charles Kramer and George Braun. Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day.
