FSA REPORTING DATES FOR 2012 CROP YEAR

Erie County USDA Farm Service (FAS) Executive Director Annette M. Hyman, announced that the common acreage reporting dates (ARDs) between FSA and the Risk Management Agency (RMA) will take effect during the 2012 crop year for certain commodities. The remaining common ARDs will be implemented during the 2013 crop year. “Last year a review team consolidated 54 ARDs for RMA and 17 ARDs for FSA into 15 common ARDs,” said Hyman. “The common reporting dates will reduce the crop reporting burden on producers and help reduce USDA operating costs by sharing data with partner agencies,” she said. New York FSA will implement the new crop reporting dates beginning July 1, 2012, for 2012 and subsequent crops. Please refer the following for spring-seeded and fall-seeded ARDs: Apples, Grapes, Peaches January 15; Spring Forage Seeding, Onions - May 15; Spring Barley, Corn, Dry Bean, Fresh Market Sweet Corn, Grain Sorhum, Green Peas, Spring Oats, Potatoes, Soybeans, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes and all other crops - July 15; Cabbage, Fresh Market Beans, Processing Beans - August 15; Apiculture, Fall Barley, Perennial Forage, Fall Forage Seeding, PRF, Fall Wheat, and other Fall-Seeded Small Grains - November 15. Producers who file accurate and timely reports for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage can prevent the potential loss of FSA program benefits. “I encourage all producers to visit the Erie County FSA office to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadine on order to comply with FSA program elegibility requirements,” said Hyman. Producers are also reminded to report crop losses insured through Federal Crop Insurance and the Nonin-

KINDERGARTEN HAS FUN WITH DRIP PAINTING

Kindergarten students at SS. Peter & Paul School in Patti Mehltretter’s art class recently had the opportunity to learn about American artist Jackson Pollock, who was an abstract expressionist.

He was well-known for his style of drip painting. Pictured above is Mehltretter with Elle Noecker (left) and Dylan Savage (right), with their art pieces of drip painting they created.

GOP COMMITTEES BACK COLLINS

Members of the Eden and Lancaster Republican committees have voted to endorse Chris Collins for Congress. Collins is running for the newly drawn 27th Congressional seat, which includes all or part of eight counties spanning Western New York and the Finger Lakes. Collins is running on his record of private sector job creation as a businessman and bringing a commonsense, conservative approach to fixing broken government as a former county executive. “The hardworking residents of the 27th Congressional District need and, more importantly, deserve a representative in Congress who actually shares their values and ideals,” said Colins. “I am that candidate and my record proves it. Our leaders in Washington have to get serious about our spending and debt so we can get this country’s economy moving again. I have been lucky enough to live the American Dream and I want to go to Washington and fight every day to make sure future generations can live that dream, too. I want to thank the GOP committee members in Eden and Lancaster for their continued support of me and my candidacy. “As someone who works hard every day to support my family, I want Chris fighting for me in Washington,” said Eden Republican Chairman Tim Rohe. “We need Chris in COngress making sure our tax dollars are being spent wisely and that Washington starts making the right decisions to get our economy back on track. I want a bright future for my children and I know Chris does too.” “As a shoe salesman putting himself through college or as a young man maxing out his credit card to purchase his first business, Chris knew his hard work and determination would meet opportunity in this country,” said Lancaster GOP Chairman Robert Matthews. “Sadly, that’s not always the case today and the failed policies in Washington are to blame.

Chris is the representative the people of the 27th District need to help bring fiscal sanity to Washington. The candidate of the New York State Conservative Party, Collins is running in a Republican Party primary on June 26, 2012. Having spent more than 35 years in the private sector, Chris has helped create or save 500 jobs in our region. As a former county executive, Chris made the tough dicisions to cut debt and reduce spending to turn Erie County’s finances around. Chirs lives in Clarence with his family. For more information about Chris, visit www.collinsforcongress. com. ________

Raiders Respond Day is well in its way to become a tradition in Eden. Now in its third year, it involves more and more students around town on May 25. While many of their projects will produce visible results, their efforts on Friday will be felt in other ways as well... through donations to the local food pantry, visits to cheer nursing home residents, and other less obvious projects. Through projects such as these, even the youngest students are able to participate. Community service should be a habit for life. Wether it is physical work cleaning up a park or helping by serving on a town committee. It is good for all of us to remember that serving our community helps to make Eden a better place to live. Our young students are well on their way to learning that. Thanks to each of them!
