Mildred was born September 12, 1927; first born child to Cathleen and William Kingsley. She attended Prince Edward Collegiate High School. POLONCARZ ADDRESSES RULES, RECREATION AT COUNTY BEACHES
Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined by Parks Commissioner Troy Schinzel, Members of the Erie County Sherriff’s office, and members of the Town of Evans police department at Bennett beach in Angola to welcome residents to County parks and beaches while also reminding them of the rules of conduct that apply while they are there. Hot early-season weather brought on a surge in the number of people heading to the beaches and parks, with recent incidents suggesting that a repetition of County policies for safe, responsible usage of these spaces was in order. “First and foremost, I would like to welcome all County residents to our beaches and parks, and hope everyone has a fun and safe time while they are there. Even on a rainy day, like today, people are coming out to enjoy the natural beauty of Bennett beach,” said Poloncarz. “ I also want to remind visitors to respect the rules while they are here. these areas are here for the enjoyment of all County residents, and everyone who visits hs a responsibility to leave the beach in good condition.Respect our environment by disposing of your trash in the proper receptacles and respect other visitors by adhering to state laws regarding consumption of alcoholic beverages.” The Erie County Parks system, considered to be one of the finest in New York State, maintains Bennett beach in Angola as well as Wendt beach in Evans. Both are summertime destinations for local families, offering unparalleled view, wide expanses of sandy shore, and easy access to Lake Erie. While Bennett is an open beach without shelters,Wendt offers picnic areas and facilities Both beaches have ample parking; newly-placed fencing at Bennett beach, as well as increased signage, is intended to more clearly delineate parking areas.
HERMAN J. CIMINESI HONORED AT BRANT SUMMER FEST & STRAWBERRY JAM At the Town Board meeting on Tuesday June 12th, the Brant Town Board unanimously proclaimed June 1516-17th as Herman J. Ciminesi days at the annual Brant Summer Fest and awarded him a plaque to be placed on the wall of achievement at our new town hall. Herman served our town residents for over 25 years and as a Town Supervisor for 18 consecutive years, more than any other Supervisor in town history. The Brant Summer Fest was a huge success for all that attended (approximately 2000 people for the 3 day event). The diversity of the food, beverage, games, contests, events, merchant vendors and the free give away was delightful not to mention the Strawberry Short Cake. On Friday the jam began with the music of Two Left Boots and the fun carried over into Saturday with a Parade at 1 pm, Classic car showing, Donkey race, a Strawberry Pie eating contest, free mini sweet peppers grilling and coupon give away (Pero Family Farms) and at 5 pm music by Only Up From Here, then at 7:30 pm the Headliner of the jam was Nashville recording artist Everett Lee and the Underground Stampede which rounded out the evening. On Sunday, Fathers were given 18 oz. jars of Strawberry Jam that was donated by the Carriage House of Fredonia, NY. Sunday was also Goya day. They gave away canned goods all day and then two Goya representatives (Diane & Donna) judged the Goya cook off and had a very difficult time judging the winners. The senior citizens baked good sale, photo contest, obstacle run championship, Brant Farnham Historical Display, basket raffle and water ball contest rounded out the Festival. A huge thank you to Goya Foods, Pero Family Farms, Lake Shore Youth Football, all the vendors, Farnham & Angola Fire departments for their participation in the games, to the Brant, Farnham, North Collins & Lawtons fire companies and all parade participants, also a special thank you to all that helped and had a good time at our annual event. “We dare not forget that we are the heirs of that first revolution.” - John F. Kennedy In the midst of all the picnics and ball games and outdoor celebrations, take a moment to remember what those early patriots did for us on July 4, 1776. By taking a stand and declaring independence for these far flung colonies of Great Britain, they knew there would be retribution and war. What a remarkable act for thirteen loosely organized states to take on a world power in an act of defiance that had never been seen! It is imperative that each of us remember the importance of this day and celebrate the boldness with which our forebears signed their names to a document that still stands as a beacon to all those in the world who are oppressed. We must not forget the many who recognized the importance of freedom and democracy more than 200 years ago. We are truly heirs to their greatness.
