P.F.C. BRETT WILCZYNSKI

Brett R. Wilczynski has graduated Private First Class and an expert rifleman from Parris Island, South Carolina on July 20th from the United States Marine Corp. He is a 2011 graduate of North Collins High School. Proud parents are David and Sharon Wilczynski of North Collins and older brother Brandon also of North Collins. He is the grandson of Earl and Jeanette Morlock of Hamburg and great-grandson of Susan Morlock and the late Richard and Kathleen Wilczynski of East Eden. He will be in North Carolina for further schooling. ________

ERIE COUNTY AGRICULTURAL AND FARMLAND PRPOTECTION PLAN Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning Commissioner Maria Whyte and the Erie County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, are pleased to announce the release of the Draft Erie County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan. The plan will guide county support of the agriculture industry over the next 10 years. The Draft Erie County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan is available for review at www.erie.gov. Comments will be accepted until September 13. A public hearing on the draft will be hosted by the Erie County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board. It will be held: Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m., Cornell Cooperative Extension, 21 South Grove Street, East Aurora Local farms contribute in many ways to our community. Farming is a significant component of the local economy. The 2007 Census of Agriculture notes that Erie County farms sold $117 million in agricultural products. Well-managed farms protect water quality. Farms maintain scenic landscapes and wildlife habitat that not only attract tourist dollars but are integral to the quality of life of local people. Despite this, between 2002 and 2007, the amount of productive agricultural land in Erie County declined by 8 percent. The loss of farms and farmland has a negative impact on local economies as the growing, processing, buying, and selling of food has traditionally been a cornerstone of many Erie County communities. In an effort to reduce that trend, the County, contracted with American Farmland Trust to develop a new plan with specific policies to protect agricultural farmland and increase the viability of the industry. If you would like to learn more about local farms and the process county support for agriculture in the next decade, please plan on attending this important meeting. Farmers, local officials, environmentalists, and others interested in farms, food and land in the county are urged to attend. This project is funded in part by an Agricultural and Farmland Protection Planning grant awarded by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to Erie County. __________

Most holy apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honors and invokes you universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone. Make use I implore you, of that particular privilege given to you, to bring visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolation and help of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, and that I may praise God with you and all the elect forever. I promise, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, to always honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to you. Amen. BMC

LEGISLATOR MILLS, LIBRARY DIRECTORS DEEM FIRST HOT DO FUNDRAISERS A SUCCESS Erie County Legislator John J. Mills brought his hot dog roast fundraisers to the Angola and North Collins Libraries for the first time this year, raising money to support the branches’ continued efforts to provide quality programming to their patrons. “Through last year’s redistricting process I was fortunate enough to expand my district into many great towns and villages, including Angola/Evans and North Collins. In their first hot dog roast fundraisers, the libraries in those communities had outstanding backing from the directors, local officials, library board members, volunteers and supporters, which made the fundraisers successful. I am pleased to present these donations and look forward to hosting bigger and better fundraisers next summer,” said Legislator Mills. He presented a donation for $916, a record for a firstyear fundraiser, to Angola Library Director Mary Truby, along with Village of Angola Trustee and Library Liaison Carole Kin; Library Board President Jack Kuebler; and Library Board Members Donna Nagel, Sally Needham and Jackie Haderer, during a presentation held on Aug. 22 at the library. The money was raised during the first annual fundraiser held on July 27. “This event was a great idea, hot dogs and sunshine; the perfect combination for a summer fundraiser! It has come at a perfect time, we can use the money to help fund our new meeting room addition for children’s programs. It was a fun occasion that will assist us in our efforts to provide programs for the children in our area,” said Library Director Truby. Legislator Mills also held his first hot dog roast fundraiser for the North Collins Library this summer on July 30, raising $805 to support programming. The donation was accepted by Library Director Mary Muscarella, who was joined by North Collins Town Board Member Jeffrey Krauss and Town Clerk Maggie Orrange, during a presentation held Aug. 22 at the library. Using a portion of his salary, Legislator Mills hosts the fundraisers and donates 100 percent of the proceeds to the host library. He has now raised approximately $30,000 in six years to support the branches in his district. Top Picture: Erie County Legislator John J.
