Card of Thanks From the Brother of the late Betsey S. Currey I would like to thank my new extended family, the members of Absolut Care of Eden Facility. They have opened their hearts and door to me that I will forever be grateful for their help in dealing with the horrible decisions I had to make for my ailing sister. Thank you to John and Patty Latimore for handling a personal moment so professionally; Pastor Loos for the beautiful service; the attending Vicar of St. John’s for reassuring her that she will be in God’s hands; Hospice Foundation social worker, Connie James and Nurse Tina; Marcia Taylor for keeping her promise to her late aunt; Kevin Keefe for your rekindled loyalty - remember the good times; Lori Bridges, human resources of Petri’s Baking Products, for your concern keeping her health coverage active - good luck in the future; out of town family members, friends and employees of K & H Industries, past and present, for their support; Sherry (Paul) Kent-Battaglia for sharing her journey and support - she is someone who has been through the worst; Joey and Grace Augustyniak for making grandpa so happy, love you all; Marianne Baake for your kind words at the funeral; Klaus Baake and Cala’s Kitchen for hosting the brunch after the funeral. Betsey is now having her peanut butter, brushing her hair and watching over all of us with her perfect vision.

Love ya, Sis, Your Brother, David N. Currey

SCS STUDENT DONATES TO LOCKS OF LOVE

Southtowns Catholic School Grade 2 student, Trinity Kehoe, donated 10+ inches of her beautiful blonde hair to Lock of Love. She has been talking about donating her hair for 2 years and when she knew she had more than 10 inches to share, Trinity knew it was time. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide helps to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES RECEIVES GRANT FROM YORK CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION

The Laing Funeral Home in Eden has teamed up with the York Children’s Foundation in support of a grant awarded by the Foundation to Child and Family Services of Erie County. The Foundation has made this grant to Child & Family Services in support of the Laing Funeral Home’s community support of the local organization for an art therapy project planned by Child & Family Services at their Conners Children’s Center in Buffalo. The York Children’s Foundation awards grants to community-based children’s causes, and has contributed over $2.2 million to charities serving children across the country. The Foundation is funded by the Matthews Casket Division with whom the locally-based Laing Funeral Home is affiliated. This most generous grant will support a specially designed art therapy program for children up to age 21 who reside in four residential treatment facilities which are part of the Conners Children’s Center. “The children living at Conners Children’s Center face a multitude of challenges because of their intense emotional and behavioral problems resulting from the severe trauma they have endured during their young lives. We are most appreciative of the Laing Funeral Home’s sponsorship of our grant request to the Foundation in support of this important project. Our goal is to provide an art therapy program as an effective treatment that allows these children to express their feelings. This is so vital to the recovery of children in our organization’s care”, said Rosanne Wisniewski, Child and Family Services’ Grants Coordinator. Child & Family Services is one of the largest, private, not-for-profit family service agencies in the nation, and has provided innovative programming since 1873. The agency’s mission is to strengthen families and promote the well-being of children through prevention, intervention, education and advocacy. Through over 30 programs and services, the agency strives to create brighter futures for Western New York children and their families.
