870-0494 OLD TIME HANDYMAN, LLC LOCAL RESIDENT FEATURED ON VELOCITY’S ‘GRAVEYARD CARZ’

It was one year ago when Evans resident Tom Partridge appeared on the TV Show, Graveyard Carz. At that time the episode told his story of wanting a 1969 Dodge Daytona since he was a child and how it came about to be on the TV Show. Season III of the show started January 7th and over the course of the 13 episodes it will show the completion of his car. He said, “It’s been a great ride (no pun intended). I’ve gotten to know the guys very well and hope to continue being involved with them”. Tom said, “Even though Mark comes across as a jerk to his guys, he’s actually a really decent guy who sticks to his word. Don’t get me wrong, he is a ball buster, but it’s all in fun. In fact you should see me giving some of it right back to him in a couple future episodes”. He was there for 5 weeks this summer working not only on his car but others. The car turned out great. Even the underside of the car is done just like the factory would have done it. There are several little “details” that Tom said he will finish, but these are something he and Mark talked about and Tom said he would enjoy do them. There were several sponsors that Tom contacted about his car, which helped out in various ways. Locally, NAPA gave Tom the corporate number and they helped out with most of his front suspension parts. One of the many interesting things about this whole process is that you will see Former Professional Wrestler and Football Player Bill Goldberg make an appearance on the show. Tom sent some materials to him about the show and Bill Goldberg contacted him. “It was last January and 13 degrees outside, I was loosening up the tires for a car I had picked up for Mark and my phone rang and it was Bill Goldberg”. He said they talked a few times, Bill watched the show and Tom put him in touch with Mark. “Ultimately, Mark made an agreement to do some work on his car, and Bill will be on one of the later episodes I believe”. Tom says it may be the last episode of the season where you will see a bit of the cars performance! He said he has to thank his longtime friend John for building the motor. “It’s been a lot of fun and quite an education and as I said before I hope to continue helping in some way”. He plans on flying back there to help work on some more cars and organize, as he says, “the multitude of parts that are inside the spare cars he has”. The show is called Graveyard Carz and airs on Tuesday nights at 9pm on the Velocity channel. (Ch. 403) __________

THE FAIRGROUNDS WILL AWARD STUDENTS $20,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS

As part of the Fairgrounds’ effort to foster education and success in students in Erie County and beyond, the Erie County Agricultural Society and Hamburg Gaming will be awarding $20,000 in scholarships to high school seniors and college students. To apply for the Erie County Agricultural Society’s scholarship you must be enrolling or enrolled in an accredited college or university. Students must be pursuing a career tied to agriculture and must be able to describe how their field of study will help them in their agricultural endeavors. The mission statement of the Erie County Agricultural Society states that our purpose “is to preserve and enhance the agricultural and historical legacy of New York State,” and our scholarship winners must reflect this mission in their academic goals. Note: Students do not have to attend a college in New York State to qualify. Hamburg Gaming is offering scholarships to students who are pursuing other fields of study. Again, students must be enrolling or enrolled in an accredited college or university. Applicants must have participated in the Erie County Fair for eligibility. Participation can include but is NOT limited to employment, exhibition, volunteering, marching band, or other performances. Applications are made available to local students through their high school or colleges. Those wishing to obtain an application can do so online by visiting https:// www.ecfair.org/about-the-fair/scholarships/. 4-H participants can receive an application at the Cornell University Cooperative Extension 4-H Office located at 21 South Grove Street in East Aurora. Scholarship application postmark deadline is April 11, 2014. Questions regarding the scholarship program will be handled by Russell Marquart, CFE at the Erie County Fair Office at 716-649-3900 ext. 6403. __________

To Residents & Friends of Eden The Eden Chamber of Commerce and Eden Central School District Shared Decision Making Team received a $5000.00 grant from the Eden Community Foundation, Inc. for a new digital insert to the sign in front of the Eden Elementary School located on Main Street. The sign committee has met with the Eden Alumni and town officials and agreed that the sign would be discreet and tasteful in that it will not scroll, or flash and be white letters on Maroon background. The digital sign would be mounted onto the existing brick structure. There is an increasing need for improved communication in the community and this sign would be a way for not only the school district, but the entire community, to announce their upcoming events. All of Eden will benefit from having a highly visible sign, located in the center of town on a well-traveled route. Any not-for-profit organization or group in town would be able to request their message be displayed at no cost, as long as it was not a “for profit” advertisement. Of course, any imperative school announcement would take precedent. The sign would be wired to a computer located in the Eden Elementary office and would be easily changed by their staff. To fund the balance of the $16,000 project, the Eden Chamber is soliciting local organizations, businesses and community member for contributions. Donations can be sent to the Eden Community Foundation designated towards the “Sign” project and are tax deductible to the amount allowed by law. Let’s work together to make this project a reality!! Sincerely, Paul Zittel, President Eden Chamber of Commerce

CONSERVATION EMERGENCY!!! Your board reminds you to help protect our Ash trees. The Emerald Ash Borer will kill the trees. The bug is in our state and is TRANSPORTED THROUGH FIREWOOD. KEEP THE TRANSPORT OF YOUR FIREWOOD WITHIN A 50 MILE RADIUS. Also, your wood distributor should have a certificate to indicate the source of the wood. It could be a label, bill of sale, receipt or invoice. IT IS REQUIRED BY LAW, and you should ask for it. Finally, the emerald ash borer (EAB) leaves a 1/4 inch hole shaped like a “D” in an Ash tree. If you suspect you have EAB, call 1-866-322-4512. We CAN make a difference!! Your Conservation Board.
